Battery life???
@RunPlayBack
2 жыл бұрын
@@StreamerTV Battery range is about 30-35 miles. How much do you weigh? What kind of riding do you do? Sport or Eco mode? You have hills where you live? All of those things are dependent on the rider so battery life for me will probably be different for you. I don't weigh that much and I live near a downtown with not many inclines. I get about 35+ miles of range.

Glad you like the bike. I've owned mine for four years and put 8100 miles on him to date. I tested the Kaniwaba pedal kit for Juan and gave him feedback before he offered it to the public. I ride with the flow of traffic so being respectful means I'm not ruining it for everyone else. I was one of the few who obtained a CA moped plate in the beginning, but the state is no longer issuing them to Sur Ron owners. I never use mine simply because I don't want to be seen as anything more than a fancy ebike. Once someone sees a bike with signals and a plate you are viewed as something more than an ebike. I ride on the street and the dirt. Respectful on both and I tend to ride during the week so trails are empty. I've never had anyone complain to me on dirt or the street. Being respectful is key. I've had two CHP motor officers pull up next to me at a signal. I try not to make eye contact with people because after four years I got tired of the same questions. But I looked over at the officers, got down in a tuck position and pretended to blip my throttle and gave the head motion "Let's go!" They both laughed and shook their heads NO! LOL I wrote a long term review of the bike for WebBikeWorld.

I built my own ebike and am looking for better suspension and a more powerful motor. But any sort of upgrade takes me over the legal limit and on a used mountain bike that’s not at all built for 3,000+ watts. Also with a terrible, terrible safety issue where the pedal is inches away from the spokes of the wheel. (Don’t ask me how I know it’s a terrible, terrible safety issue) So I think a more reliable and well built bike is the way to go. So in the near future I’ll get a Sur Ron X and run it stock. And then once I get my license, I’ll register it as a moped/motorcycle and run it as a daily driver with all the power unlocked. The used car market is just insanely high right now. So anyway I slice it (including hospital bills) it ends costing less and is way more fun than a car. And I can see myself riding it through the first leg of college till the Tesla Network finally comes online.

I feel like they had a good price point, before they decided to up the price by 500. At 4,100 and a 200$ pedal kit you're now at the price of a oync rcr, but only a 60 volt. Not to mention the size is basically unacceptable for anyone over 5'10. There are raiser sets, for more money. Getting a new 72 volt battery, you need a new controller. Assuming you sell the old battery and old controller, you're still going to have to pay out at least another grand. That puts you at over 5 grand and you now have to try and sell your old battery to recoup the cost. Unfortunately it's just not worth the hassle for the street when you can get something from oynx for less work, less money and less hassle. HOWEVER, for someone who's going to take this off road more than on? Well, there's not many other options out there. The RCRs stock suspension is garbage and cannot handle off-road in the least. Their price was exactly what it should have been when it was 3,600. Now? No way. Fun overview! Hope you enjoy the bike.

Thank you for the thoughtful, detailed comment. I definitely agree with you on a lot of those points and $3,500-3,600 is the sweet spot for this bike. I didn't mean to pick on the Onyx in this review, I still think it's a dope bike and a fun part of our collection. I just find myself choosing to ride the Surron more often because it's more nimble. As far as cost goes, I didn't include my comments on that yet, maybe the next video. But yes you can go down a deep rabbit hole of modding and spending and find yourself spending more than anticipated. Again, great points and I'll try to address it in the next video. Thank you!

Very accurate comment there mate. In Australia we don’t have many options when it comes to electric dirt bikes. My SurRon is about to be $15,000 Aud invested now! Waiting on my 72v set up. I don’t regret a thing! If somewhere sold a kuberg or a Cake OR I would have seriously thought about getting one of those instead! At the entry level price point they are a great project to buy and progressively upgrade. You really notice every dollar you spend on it when it comes to suspension, ergonomics and power!
@RunPlayBack

@@antssta Great points! I'll try to mention that in the next video - that you can slowly upgrade and mod depending on your riding style. I was originally considering doing a DIY enduro build but then realized it made more sense for me to pick up a Surron since it really is a good base to start from. Another thing is that once you get into the $4k+ category of ebikes, most owners know what they're getting into and are most likely to mod it rather than keeping it stock.
@AarPlays

@@RunPlayBack I agree that the surron has more potential with it's lighter frame and world wide modding community. The RCR is very stuck to what it is. Hub motors also can't change torque to speed ratios like you can on surron by swapping the rear sprocket. And I'll be honest, if I could have a better fit surron, and a 3,600$ price point, and the option to upgrade the battery in house rather than after market, I probably wouldn't have grabbed the rcr. The ability to upgrade the battery before purchased is super overlooked for ebikes. Which is incredibly sad because the battery is what makes an ebike. I think the reason why most companies don't let you upgrade is because they all use the same cookie cutter battery from China. A great example of this is the hype scrambler 2. The "upgrade" to the battery was to just throw another one on the frame of the bike.

I have been looking at these but for the price why would you not want a Honda CRF250L? More power never run out of charge, faster, legal on the street and can actually do the dirt better. When they crack down you're going to be screwed on the streets. Most cities thousand-watt maximum and 20 miles an hour.
