Charlie, About a decade ago, allegedly to fight back against encroaching CUV/SUV sales, carmakers decided to make all sedans lower to the ground, 'swoopier' in design and generally sportier in driving character. Practical attributes like a relatively raised seat height, forgiving ride as well as rear headroom were sacrificed for style. Ten years later sedans sales have crashed. Is there any chance they will learn the lesson and bring back comfortable boxy sedans again? Getting back to the soon to depart Avalon Hybrid, your mpg test result is absolutely STUNNING.

Good, practical test. I like sedans, and am still amazed that my 2013 Accord consistently gets 35 mpg hwy.

I average about 47 mpg in 2019 Avalon Hybrid Limited, which is wonderful for a full-size car, being a 6'5" guy! 👍

I'm looking to buy an Avalon Hybrid Limited with 84,535 miles. The price is a bit higher than I would like at $26,418. Buty research has shown that a well maintained hybrid Toyota could triple the current mileage pretty easily I may not need it long term if I get an Aptera in a couple of years. But if I don't I'm thinking this could still be a good long term vehicle.

Thanks for the real-world test. On our 2021 Toyota Venza hybrid, in Washington DC-area driving, we average 42+ mpg. I’m thinking of trading in my Genesis G80 Sport awd for the Avalon hybrid. This helps.

I get 45-47 on my 2020 Avalon Hybrid. But the cost is you have to use the thinner oil, and MUST be on top of changing it every 3k. The thinner the oil the better the MPG, but less protection. So it's important to change when it's due,

I think for hybrids you should also do a city driving test because people buy hybrids for city/town fuel economy not highway

@@ultragoldcoin8780 sometimes in a 3 mile city drive I get over 45mpg city in the sienna and even have seen 78mpg on some back road country driving where the same v6 would get 38 mpg max on the same route for that segment .

@@richaquila2655 If you’re talking the old Venza, then, that’s one thing. Even so, depends what one wants and one’s criteria. The 2021 and newer Venza hybrids-that’s another story. “Garbage?” That’s hyperbole and one person’s opinion and probably the exception rather than the rule as far as a lot of expert reviews are concerned. I’m actually looking at the 2022 Avalon hybrid to replace my Genesis G80 Sport awd to complement my 2021 Venza hybrid.

@@Eugen-E you know nothing about engines of cars. Megane has ~1.5x lower consumption in this speed.
