I would buy one in a heartbeat... If Ontario had an EV/PHEV incentive program... I mean come on, they scrapped it because it was catering to "high income" people who didn't need it, back when people were buying Teslas like crazy. Quebec still has a program with incentives as long as the MSRP is under $60k. WHY CAN'T WE GET THAT?!?!?! $8k provincial rebate, $5k federal. That $13k makes a huge difference. I might just move to Quebec and learn French so that I can use that deal. /s Canada could become a PHEV/EV leader if our provinces would fucking give us the ability to reasonably afford PHEV/EVs. Plus it would add move PHEV/EVs to the used car market. Just... Why... :(

In Quebec it's a no brainer. Buy one. In BC maybe. The rest of Canada it doesn't make financial sense. In Ontario I just got a hybrid limited. The equivalent top end Prime would still cost 10K more even with rhe 5K fed rebate. It would take me about 8 years to make up the cost savings in fuel. That doesn't include the cost of hydro which in Ontario is the highest in the country.
@EverydayReviews2022

It is definitely priced at a premium. I thought it qualified for the BC scrap it program for an additional 6k but I was mistaken.

Do not buy a hybrid just for fuel savings or the environment, it is a vehicle made of steel like any other and you will never make up the difference in fuel. Buy this because you like the way the vehicle drives, just like any other vehicle purchase. With a Toyota hybrid you get more performance and the torque of the electric motor changes the feel of the drive. The Prime gets you a full power electric drive train.

It also has a lot more horsepower than the regular regular hybrid Rav 4. Look at the comparison, you get what you pay for. And judging by your logo you live in Edmonton. In BC gas prices are through the roof so using EV to commute to and from work every day will save thousands in gas a year...no joke...thousands. We were spending between $300-$400 a month on gas on our Van, now it will be that a year.

Why not a fully digital instrument cluster? It makes no sense to me. And that infotainment screen is just five years old at best. These things aren't expensive, but just does a lot for overall impression of quality. I feel someone at Toyota missed the memo on modern cars. Not to mention how appalling its AWD seems to be. Idk, to me that's one strike too many, which is a shame because those things fixed would make this a very attractive car.

Another nice car that we, the consumer, won't be able to buy anytime soon. Toyota made pitifully few of these for the U.S. market (I think it was just under 5000 for the entire country). Even if you do manage to find one for sale you can expect insane dealer markups. Oh and if you were thinking of trying out the Ford Escape Plug-in as an alternative you can forget that as well. I haven't been able to find a single one for sale anywhere in the United States as of this date (10-6-2020). Ok, how about a full EV; those Hyundai Kona EVs and a Kia Niro EVs sure look nice but, again, nope...they are only for sale in the 12 ZEV states. Even if I bought one out of state and brought it back here to Mississippi the dealers say they wouldn't be able to service them here. The Nissan Leaf has terrible battery thermal protection (as in.. it has none whatsoever) that leads to excessive battery degradation in hot climates. That leaves me with the Chevy Bolt, which I must admit was a lot of fun during my test drive...for about five minutes. The seats were extremely narrow and it felt like I had a javelin sticking into the left side of my behind after just a few minutes of sitting down. Seriously you'd have to be Slenderman to fit properly in Bolt's seats. Chevy was gonna fix that in the 2021 refresh but they just announced that the refresh won't happen now until 2022. I know I'm ranting. I just feel these companies aren't really taking electrification seriously. Obviously I could buy a Tesla, but to be honest I'm not a fan of the minimalist interior design and the extremely high number of defects that are being reported on new purchases. Maybe Volkswagen can make some waves with the ID.4...
@EverydayReviews2022
4 жыл бұрын
Not a rant at all. Just stating the facts. Local dealership around me has rows and rows of Bolts. I agree with the seats other than that, it’s a decent EV with usable range. I have a feeling though that the ID4 won’t be any easier to get either.

Nice review... my only comment is some of the info in regards to trim levels and rebates is misleading. Each province rebates will vary.... For example, I just ordered a xse and it does not qualify for the rebate because I added the tech package. Any thing over 55,000 does not get the 5000 off. My car was coming in at 56,800... Go figure. I now have a xse no tech. Too bad. I’m currently in Nova Scotia for those who are interested. Just check with your local dealers that’s all I can say.
@EverydayReviews2022

Sorry about that. I was under the impression that as long as the base was under 45K, then it qualified even with options. I may have read it wrong then.
@EverydayReviews2022

I just read the TC guidelines again and it seems a little confusing then. It states that higher trim levels up to 55K are included but it also states that -You will still be eligible for the incentive even if delivery, freight and other fees, such as vehicle colour and add-on accessories, push the actual purchase price over these set limits. I guess they’re classifying the tech package as a trim rather than an add on which I don’t agree. If it was a trim it would be called RAV4 Prime Tech, not XSE with tech package.
@johnbradley2449
4 жыл бұрын
Yea, I agree. I think every province is doing its own thing. I was disappointed that they were gonna charge me 11000 more to have the tech packaged added on.. That’s just crazy. I’m surprised Toyota is even charging for all the extras over and above the xse trim... I would have thought they would include it. If I hear different from the dealer, I’ll repost. My car is scheduled to arrive Mar-May in that window..:)

Great video Brian! I got my Prime a the end of July in Victoria BC. Only 5 weeks into it but I'm loving it!!! I get about 80km EV in mostly highway driving! Am I only the only one who noticed a car in the ditch at the 9:00 mark??? Just when Brain is talking about the handling? Sad & funny!

Ooh, shiny. Looks nice, love the wheels, but it seems underpowered though. Appreciate the review and thanks for posting.

@Hugh MacIsaac Well, must've only focused on the part @ 3:40 where he mentions 177HP, but you are correct. 302 combined HP, nice. That is very fast.

I’ve seen a lot of people switching from TSS 2.0 (Toyota Safety Sense) to Open Pilot (an open source Auto Pilot alternative by comma.ai). Pretty much a $1000 version of Tesla’s Auto Pilot.
