I came here to see the removal of the plastic caps. I'm about to install a Yakima rack. Thanks for the hint on the loctite, and I'm totally jealous of your organized garage! It's inspiring.

Would it be easy to take these off and then put them back on for use. [my needs are not daily or even momthly] ?

Easy to take off! All you’ll need to do is untighten the screws, no need to redo the assembly.

Do you know of a roof rack for this car that would be higher up (above the antenna)? I need it for a kayak and it needs to life above this to avoid damage. Thanks!

What should the screws be torqued down to?

Did you put locktite on those bolts? Seems like upside down bolts on a vibrating vehicle will eventually back out with no locking mechanism on them. Kinda off design imho.

No locktite but probably a good idea. I'll update the description.

Any idea if these crossbars will work with a yakama bike mount

yakima.com/products/frontloader?_ga=2.155810811.1171441686.1689025924-1971372031.1689025924 Looks like the Yakima FrontLoader bike mount would work because it has adaptable mounts to the bar? I "think" this would work but probably note that this would tank your kwh/mi efficiency. Top-mounted bikes would be wind inefficient.

Any noticeable difference in range with these installed? I've heard that air resistance from roof crossbars cuts range. Also, do you notice a wind noise from these when driving?

I live in Oahu Hawaii so range is not really an issue when the max I'll drive in a given day is about ~60 miles. I wouldn't say a noticeable difference in range. I get about 4.2mi/kwh efficiency. At most maybe knocking off 5 - 10 miles from my usual 260mi range? Wind noise is noticeable when going over about 50mph (highway. use) or on especially windy days. Probably exacerbated with the rack pads installed as well. The wind does not rattle/vibrate the car. I usually drown out the wind noise with louder music/podcast volume. In my opinion, the roof racks + rack pads are worth the 5% range decrease and manageable wind noise. Able to strap down a 9ft longboard and a 8ft foamie and drive around the island with no worries 🤙🏽
