Yup. I am yet to experience the new ELS. But if the original ELS is anything to go off of... Its fantastic. I have the first ever ELS in my 2007 TL and for a 8 speaker 250ish watt system... its better than most systems put in most cars up to 35k. Detail and clarity is unparalleled. I listen to my surround sound DVDs in the TL and it's just beautiful. I have lots of expectations for the new TLX Type S. I firmly believe that that 2004-2008 TL was the best sedan ever to come out of Acura.

Just picked up a 2022 Acura MDX A-Spec in Red Pearl (beautiful depth of the color too btw with contrasting wheels too). Awesome vehicle - love the interior with the different textures and red stitching with the black interior. Handles incredibly well and the SH-AWD is unreal. I've always been a bit of an audiophile, and my wife has a Lexus GS with the Levinson system - but I'm convinced that there is now way that there is an equal to this sound system in any vehicle. I also don't think the X5 handles better, but it does have more power. The Type-S should solve that issue for the most part - wish I could have waited for that version!.Thanks Topher for this and the A-Spec review!

Matthew, Just got Mine Friday 8/20. Fathom Blue Pearl with a Graystone Interior. I'm 69 YO, you are probably a lot younger than me, so I don't typically use the word Awesome .... but in this case. It is Awesome (or the DOPE , SWEET, or even "Boss" a word we used way back then). Agree with your X5 comments .... The MDX is a better value by far for what you get. Go ahead load up the X5 with a Premium & Prestige Package......hold onto your Wallet. The Lexus RX-L, no comparison and I hate that Grille - I could NEVER look at that everyday. The ELS, 16 speaker sound system is Superior. I only wish Acura kept the Internal Hard Disc Drive and CD player. Had it in my 2019 MDX and in a 2016 Infiniti QX60. No need for USB "Sticks" . Play and record the CD and your were done with easy access to 1000s of songs. Now I have to Burn Flash Drive Sticks which compresses CD Audio into MP3s (or FLACS , but I hate to have to do this). The Touch Pad is a bit of the PIA, but I'm on a learning curve. My dealer actually gives "Instructional Classes " every Friday morning to Acura customers.

@@mikejames8133 I've found it incredibly straightforward, since nearly all the functions you regularly use have dedicated buttons that you don't need to go through the screen and menus system for. Even then, the menu system is very simple. Far better than Lexus system (wife has Lexus GS). I'd love it if it also had a touchscreen, but not at the expense of physical buttons. You can operate the important functions w/o being distracted or taking eyes off the road for the most part, which is more than you can say for most cars these days.

I like this Acura MDX Advance Package very much. The bad thing is I lost one feature on my advance package, which is audio alert for seat belt “please fasten passenger seat belt”, it disappeared and no more audio alert, only din din song. I went to dealership service and they can’t find out or no body knew about this feature, they didn’t fix or couldn’t add back on. They even called and asked manufacture’s technician, they don’t know answer which I don’t believe it, they must know about it. I keep arguing and I lost, they didn’t do anything. I should record all the features on my advance package, so I can argue with them. You should record all the features on your advance package MDX. Does anyone have same issue? Can you please let me know if you have still have this audio alert for seatbelt?

After having the first Advance package in NJ since February and driving well past 10,000 miles on the car, I can tell you what the vehicle really lacks: Gas mileage is abhorrent and reprehensible, I’m averaging 19.2 with the majority of my miles being highway. This is just obscene. The vehicles car play integration and basic AI functions are third rate. Previous generation Lexus’ have a more appropriate set of functions. For example, the 14” screen Acura touts can only be used as two screens, a large and small portion with no partition. You cannot set the secondary portion to any particular setting it always reverts back to the empty screen or clock. Every single time you get in the car you have to swipe to the screen you want. Why? Secondly, if you are running any navigation app the secondary screen can only show a black screen with the word “navigation” displayed, only the Apple Maps navigation app will support a series of arrows that mimic the arrows in the heads-up display and right side of the digital dash in compass mode. Apple Maps is unusable in the MDX due to the contrast ratio in daytime which makes it worse than the god-awful native navigation that comes with the car. Using any other navigation map renders the right side screen useless, the compass navigation mode void and no directions in heads-up display. Whenever you use parking mode (it’s the button on the turn stock which enables the 360 cameras) its takes over the entire screen. You can’t even see your maps or any other pertinent info like you can in EVERY other vehicle in its class. This is even more alarming when you are navigating somewhere, you lose all insights to the map, and your location. Unlike other vehicles which partition the screen when you slow down so you can still view the map. Just piss-poor oversight. The digital dash does nothing, it’s just an digital gauge cluster with 2 settings. Completely no functions other than gauges in traditional or a more sport looking gauge. No maps, no cool graphics nothing other than a chintzy looking car in the front screen which is always positioned center and shows approximate distance of car in front of you always directly in front. Accessing the interior light modes requires you to be parked and go through the operations menu. You cannot pick your coloration instead you are forced to choose from predetermined, preset colors assigned to profiles. If you opt for the non-interesting default, the colors will switch to solid colors white, blue and red depending on driving setting. But the color options are much more svelte in the profiles. Unfortunately they don’t change once they’re selected and can’t be toggled while driving. Poor integration to say the least. Native voice controls among the worst in its class. You will be using Siri. Switching the vehicle to accept CarPlay operations renders all the basic live features on the vehicles system inoperable. You have to manually switch back. Both cannot function simultaneously and again, no toggle. The vehicle has no park-assist, no lane-change assist, no drivers assist. Just the basic lane-keep that BMW and Mercedes have been using for over a decade, and similar to the previous generation MDX. I’ve yet to see the traffic-assist in operation, it simply doesn’t work. The kick-to-open feature in the MDX is the living end, you have to always kick directly under the center rear touching the bottom edge of the bumper with your foot. It’s operation is bargain-basement and doesn’t work 75% of the time. It’s truly terrible.

TT, This is a NICE car. I test drove it to possibly (if a deal can be made), replace my 2019 MDX Advance. I really like the Night time Review ... Nobody else does that , it's a very intuitive Video which makes the car even more of a standout. And Yes, the sound system is Dynamic. One question about the Android Auto / Apple Car play ( have a Google Android phone , previously had a iPhone from my employer - I felt Apple Car play is better than Android Auto overall). You mention that when wirelessly connected, the touch pad operates differently, more like a laptop touch pad ? Is that the same if you connected the phone by USB ? I want to opine: The HUD is Great , I usd it during my daytime test drive, and can be Turned off if it should become annoying at night. The digital dashboard is outstanding, it's too bad that Acura goes exclusively with a Touch Pad. They should have gone with Both Touch Screen and a Touch Pad (or Knob), like Genesis GV70 / 80 . However, a Fully Loaded Genesis GV80 (about the the same size) is Much more Money !!. Great review which is much appreciated. Trouble mnow is there are very scarce Advance models at Dealers due to the Chipset shortages affecting all automakers. Not sure about the Acura Red, but Blue with Graystone or White with Parchment interior are on the short list. I like the the Carbon Metallic , BUT not sure on the Espresso interior _ Acura has too many coros going on with the Espresso interiors : Blacks, Grays, Espresso [Brown} with dark gray plasticky seat backs on the front seats ?? Seems to me like a color clash . My MDX is Canyon Bronze Metallic which when washed and Waxed is really Nice with an Espresso leather interior which does not have all that color clash (seat backs are in Espresso). Acura dropped the Canyon Bronze for it's unpopularity. I'm glad I got - sets me Apart form the Maddening crowd of the typical White, Black, and Medium Grays out there.

The first time I test drove one I hated it. Did some more research, test drove some other stuff and decided to go back and give it another shot. Couple things that I figured out....the first time I drove it the dealer set it in comfort mode. I hated the light steering in comfort mode even though it was very precise and the throttle response was pathetic. In normal mode everything feels much better. The other thing was the stereo was quite a let down considering the hype. Well if someone before you cranks the bass all the way up it does not sound great; normalize it and it really does sound great. The engine does not have the low end torque that most of us are used to in the turbo charged 4 and 6 cylinders out there, but it is not slow. It drives like it's a car and the superhandling AWD is noticeable. It is not the most premium or most luxurious or most sporty SUV out there, but out of the literally dozens of cars we drove and looked at I think that it balances comfort and confidence the best and for the price it's hard to beat. With that said I hate the touchpad. I'm getting used to it, but if it just had a touchscreen I would be on my roof shouting about how amazing this vehicle was. It's a major drawback and something that you need to really be honest about before you buy it. It seems stupid and trivial until you're driving down the road and need to do something simple and you want to put your fist through the screen. Fortunately the voice commands seem to be decent. The naturally aspirated V6 will last forever. Of course I don't usually keep a car beyond 2 years so long term reliability isn't that big a deal for me, but for resale it's a great selling point.

@@TheTopher I did and got them individually balanced. I just think it's the Houston area city roads. They are bad... This MDX handles good, but I feel like the suspension prioritizes handling over ride quality. My MDX feels bouncier than the one I tested, but then again you only notice so much during a 20 min test drive. The 2015 Highlander I had before this was a much more stable ride IMO, but less fun to drive (not as sporty in terms of handling). I love the MDX on really good even roads with twists and turns, but prefer the Highlander in city driving.
