Here in Switzerland, something like that is the 1quiver Ski. But a lot of skiers, still are looking for the crazy Slalom, or GS ski, but they can not ski it then. But a ski like that is grwat for us here, you can ski it in the early morning, or even in the afternoon when you got bumps, or like you said, even when you have 10-20cm of fresh snow. Thanks for your work great to see you an early fridays... makes my weekend start early 🙂

Great review and chat as always fellas! I got a pair of Blizzard FIS GS 184 this year and absolutely love them! High speed , trench digging machines! I’d like to add shorter radius trench digger to the quiver and this WB 15 looks like the ticket!

Fantastic choice to complement a FIS GS ski, yup! Doesn't need to go quite as fast and still an extremely rewarding skiing experience.

You mentioned low natural snow in Northern Vermont. We here in Eastern Washington we were low on natural snow too, but we just got a massive dump. Overnight 22 inches here in town, Wenatchee and 25 inches up on the hill, Mission Ridge. The whole hill should be open now. When the hill first opened up this season if you did not stay on the one man-made snow run from top to bottom you were going to be running across basalt rock. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for the great review! How do they compare to Rossignol Elite Hero +?
@SkiEssentials

The Rossignol has more of a race-like feel to it--heavier and more stable at speed, but you'll lose some of the versatility that I really enjoyed from the TBird.

So comparing to a Brahma 82, as suites similar needs?
@lassivaatamoinen5468
2 жыл бұрын
I think the guys here put it pretty well at the end of the video @21:57, regarding what skis to get in general. Specs-wise, I think Brahma 82 and Thunderbird cover similar middle ground, but go towards opposite extremes. Thunderbird will be better on (extreme) harder conditions, where as the Brahma will serve better on softer snow. Or, to put it in different terms: a wider ski (Brahma) will demand a bit more skier effort on hard snow, but the narrower ski will require effort in the softer conditions, due to less floatation. For an experienced skier this will be a matter of preference, really. But for more of a casual skier there might be significant difference. So the Brahma 82 might be a better pick for a true all-round ski.

I think the Hero Elite Plus is a closer comparisons. Between the two, the Thunderbird feels slightly more approachable and easier to ski to me, more energy out of it at slower speeds.

Hi - most of my skiing is done at night around the west -- often icy, crusty, skied out. But I nonetheless love it for the atmosphere and lack of crowds... :) I have an all-mountain daily driver (Armada Stranger) and I'm looking to expand the quiver to include a frontside carver for the conditions above. How would you compare this ski to the E-Titan, or E-Rally? Do any other recommendations come to mind? I'm 5'10 at 170lbs if that makes a difference. Intermediate skier growing into advanced, and I'm finding myself becoming more aggressive in my style. Love your work. Appreciate any pointers.
@SkiEssentials

The Titan and Rally are one small step above the Thunderbird when it comes to stability, power, and unfortunately weight. If you get into the Head skis, you're looking at pretty stiff and rugged skis. I find the Thunderbird to be a bit friendlier while still keeping that performance to a maximum. If you don't want to go sub-80's underfoot, though, the Titan makes a great choice for having some versatility built in. As will the Volkl Deacon 84.

You tried both 174 and 182, and you seemed to imply the 182 is more versatile. So if given the choice, which would you buy? Local shop only has 182 left and I’m deciding if that works. I’m 6’1” 200lbs and fairly strong skier. Currently on Enforcer 100 185 but want to add a better east coast ski to my quiver. Any words of wisdom? Thanks!
@SkiEssentials

I would go 182. The 174 is a shorter turner, and less happy when pushed to speed or into anything chunky. The 182 is simply more composed for skiers of your (my) size.

Hey guys ... I'm looking at a pair of these as groomer-slayers. What length did you ski when you tested them. I'm close to Bob's height and wondered what your thoughts on the 174 are? Side note: I bought my Kendos 176 and Maverick 180 on your recommendation and couldn't be happier ... Let's make it a trifecta. Cheers!!

Oooh, the pressure's on! I (Bob) skied the 182 and loved it. I skied the 174 in the narrower Spitfire versions and loved that, too! That said, I never find a sturdily built ski like these to ski too short, a lot of my time on more front side skis is spent on the shorter lengths. I have a Head Supershape Rally in the 177 and that feels right, and when we got on the Rossignol Forza V-70, I much preferred the 173 to the 181, so there's something to be said for slightly shorter front side skis for sure. Given your other skis and their lengths, I'd think 174 is a pretty solid choice. Hope it works! SE/Bob

Definitely in the same conversation. The Thunderbird feels smoother to me, with the Redster more reactive and more responsive. More vibration damping in the Thunderbird, more energy in the Redster.

I’m on 2 year old 172 RTM 84’s at the moment (which I love !) and looking for an even more front oriented ski… These were rcommended recently by my local shop, how would the Blizzards compare to my Voelkl ???
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
The Blizzard has more of a race-like feel to it. The narrower waist combined with more of a traditional sandwich sidewall build makes it grippier and more energetic than the RTM. We were both very impressed with this ski this year.

just a quick question; i am 5’8, 140 pound and i do most of my skiing in tahoe and the northwest. i spend most of my time on groomers, in the trees, and i am interested in becoming more involved in the park but i am kind of a beginner in that aspect. right now i am stuck between the poacher, chronic, and arv 96. do you guys have any thought?
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
The ARV has a really versatile personality--it's stable and smooth, but also playful and smeary. It's got that twin tipped shape, but a more burly build for harder charging types of skiing. Poacher is second choice.

Hey! Love the content. I am struggling though. I'm looking for a new pair of ski's but there are so many options, it's insane. I'm 74kg, 177cm and looking for a ski with a radius around 14-15m with an underfoot not wider than 76mm (68-76mm). I will use the ski to train for my level 3 BASI so I'm looking for a pretty stiff advanced ski. I've been looking at a few like head rebels/supershape, thunderbird, fischer curv ti, redster revo, racetiger rc,... Are there any recommendations you could give me. I'm kind of lost with all the options, they all seem like good ski's and it's hard to just buy a ski without testing them.
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
You are correct in a number of ways. The good news is that they're pretty much all good and that you will be happy with whatever you end up with. Rebels, Curv, Racetiger, and Redster all follow more or a race form while the Supershape and Thunderbird
@agenthex

The narrower supershapes are the best non-race skis for edgelocked carving; the new e-original being the best. You don't want anything too stiff unless you're actually racing down steeps at full tilt.

Hey all. Late to this review but had a question: how would you compare this ski to the Fischer RC4 The Curv GT, which you guys also seemed to like a lot?
@SkiEssentials
9 ай бұрын
Very comparable. I'd say the Fischer felt a bit more flexible in the shovel and lighter overall. It was a quick-turning ski, and while that's great for mixing turn shapes and styles, it's not as good as the Blizzard when it comes to stability and power. I think I'd still take the Blizzard over the Fischer, but it's pretty close.
@GDCohen-g2o

Thanks for that reply, super helpful! One more question along these lines: how would you say the Blizzard here compares to something like the Nordica Doberman Spitfire RB 76... another ski I've seen you guys talk about, and very similar on paper to T-bird R15 WB?
@SkiEssentials
9 ай бұрын
@@GDCohen-g2oThe on-snow feel of the Spitfire 76 is very similar to the R15 as well. If I had to pick out one difference, it'd be the wood core--the Blizzard's feels more sophisticated and smooth while the Nordica has more of a firm, unrelenting race-style.

How would this compare to the Crosson Dissenter 78 underfoot, which at 175 cm length, also has a 15 m turn radius? I am interested in the Dissenter but can't find many reviews but that is also due to that this is the first year that the ski has been available. Thanks!

It's tough for us to get on the more boutique brands like the Crosson, but it looks like a pretty dedicated carver to me with a wider shovel than the slightly more race-shaped TBird. The Crosson strikes me as more of a pure carver, and likely a better operator in a clean turn versus the TBird, which is kind of fun to skid around on if necessary.

Much more of a race-room feel in the WRC, not only because of the stiffer flex, but also because of the shape. You're dropping 8 mm out of the waist with the WRC so you gain quite a bit of torsional stiffness and edge grip. If you don't want to be right on top of the edges all the time, I'd go TBird, but if you're wanting to channel your inner Marcel Hirscher, WRC.

You need to find another testing ground for this kind of ski man. No offense but you go far too easy on them. They need to be pushed much harder. As in MUCH harder. You are barely scratching the surface here.
