Jack hit it when he said that for the vast majority of us, the ability to cruise quietly and comfortably between 60 and 80 mph combined with immediate passing power, is what it's all about. In fact, as I have gotten older (matured? Nah!) I am far more reluctant to cross that broken yellow line on a two lane highway, and wander over into oncoming traffic to pass the vehicle in front of me. That sucker has to be driving a tractor, or going pretty damn slow before I'll even think about it. I am happy to say that I have finally reached the age where risking my life to save half a minute is no longer a thing.

I was shopping for a new car a few months ago and narrowed it down to the Porsche Macan S or GV70. I looked at Mercedes and BMW, but everyone has one and there's no wow factor for me (and we already have a current gen Lexus NX, so we ruled that out). What you guys said in the video is totally true - if you're someone who's going to push the limits of the car and take it to a track, the Porsche is the better pick. But for a guy like me who uses a vehicle to commute to work, drive the family around, etc., the GV70 is amazing. It's got better luxury, better technology and of course better pricing. I've had the GV70 for 2 months now and I've gotten a dozen people come up to me in parking lots asking me about this car. I think Genesis is going to do really well and really get their brand recognition out there with this one.

Just bought a 3.5 fully loaded here in Australia. I've had wagons in the past for the cargo space and sportiness. The Genesis has all that in spades but the kicker is the ride quality and interior luxury. It's really very special and it's so great for everyday use. The 3.5 here in Australia is the only one with adaptive suspension which i really wanted after selling an Audi A4 Avant primarily due to the harder ride but also the lack of "special" about it. So far I'm massively impressed. And the 6 cylinder makes it really boogie. Way more than i really need but it puts s smile on my face everytime i give it some sauce.

Good review as usual, gentlemen. I have only one complaint. That's the selection of the 3.5 twin turbo version of the GV70 rather than the base 2.5L four cylinder turbo engine for the review. I realize that the vehicles made available by automakers for review are often limited to top trims and the most powerful engines. And even if other choices are available to review there's an advantage in terms of the number of views by internet fan boys (the overwhelming majority of whom can't afford to purchase vehicles like the GV70) but the 2.5L engine that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis are deploying in (at my last count) at least 9 separate vehicles is by all accounts an excellent powerplant and worth attention considering that a well equipped version has an MSRP including destination charges of about $50,000 compared to almost $59,000 for a comparable V6 version. If the base 2.5L engine were clearly an inferior powerplant that few consumers would want, it might be a different story. But judging by performance of 2.5L engine in the KIA Stinger GT-Line compared to the 3.3L V6 in the GT versions, the base engine in the GT-Line comes very close to the more expensive trims and the weight savings, especially over the front wheels, suggests it might even be superior in terms of handling. It would be interesting to see whether the same is true in the GV70. I realize that the same 4 banger in the K5 GT and Sonata N-Line introduces significant handling problems as a result to the absence of AWD (or even an LSD) in those vehicles but the GV70's AWD should, I assume, eliminate those issues. All in all, it's obvious that Genesis is presenting a "value" argument compared to its luxury rivals from Europe and Japan. It would be interesting to know whether V6 version of the GV70 is worth $9000 or more than a comparably equipped base engine version and just what a consumer is getting for those extra dollars.

Agreed - I bought the 2.5T Prestige model and with 300 HP and 311 ft-lb torque, it is 85% of what the V6 provides but with much better gas mileage (unless you have the 21" wheels) and in Canada costs at least $12,000 less, making it the value sweet spot. Just had a test drive today, GV70 was great but the dealership experience was 200% awful. Mine tester was a 3.5TT mid-trim. It was extraordinarily quiet with no wind noise and very little road noise, 19inch rims with smaller tires might help the quietness. And the ride was Okay, better than a current gen NX but worse than a Q5. Main complaint for ride quality was that lateral movement was not very well controlled and my body movement was more than I preferred. Dealership experience was absolutely awful. After the test-drive, I was left in a office with an IPAD, asking me to apply for Genesis Financial credit before any sells person talked to me. Kept waiting for 30min to finally see someone alive, told him I was not comfortable applying credit at the moment (before knowing the selling price). He seemed angry, ignoring me and staring with his monitor typing loudly. A minute later he 'offered' me a $5000 markup and asked me to leave if I could not make a purchase decision TODAY. New Genesis products are looking good. But like you've pointed out, I think for the brand to start capturing more sales, they need a better customer experience from a dealership standpoint. Customers used to buying luxury cars have the "luxury" experience and if you find out you have to go to the Kia/Hyundai dealership, that may be a dealbreaker for some customers in that segment.

"Who's gonna buy this thing" .. me. I will never buy a German vehicle, not a fan of Lexus current design... I don't care about badge or prestige and I'm not going to be tracking my crossover. I do want something I can haul my family from the valley up to the ski life or the mountain reservoirs on the weekends. I want something that will be reliable as I don't lease and I buy and hold for 10 - 15 years. So the interior/exterior design needs to be solid and that 3.5TT platform is highly attractive as I hate the turbo 4 in crossovers. I was originally a fan of the RDX and awaiting the Type S RDX but that TLX Type S was such a disappointment in price/performance that I expect it will carryover into their SUVs.

Great review of the pros & cons of this vehicle. I have owned Porsches, BMWs, an Audi, and Range Rover in the past and am seriously considering the GV70 for my next purchase. My favorite all-time was the 911; however, an SUV is much more practical.

Now about to turn 57 years, I've switched, owned a 2019 G70 3.3T, and I just traded in for the 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige. What a machine! It's a special vehicle, from the exterior design to the interior specs. Stunning, comfortable, quiet, easy to operate, and will pass traffic with ease. I needed the room for clubs and the push cart, which the sedan didn't offer. Is it fuel efficient? Nope. But I drive a lot for work, and enjoy the creature comforts. GV70 has them in spades: HUD, heated wheel, heated and ventilated seats, amazing safety & tech, remote start, Smaht Pahk, massaging driver's seat--need I go on? And I purchased mine used for $54k with 13k miles on the odometer. Enjoying every moment! Cheers, and keep up the terrific production!

I went and looked at one of these on Saturday. They are a terrific car, but I had a couple gripes. First, to get the best Highway Driving Assist, you need to get either the highest trim level of the 2.5 or one of the 3.5 trims. The bad news is that the highest 2.5 trim and the cheapest 3.5 trim both include the leather trim seats with mesh insert, which look totally cheap. They really are sad in an otherwise awesome cabin, and I wonder how durable they will be. Even the sales gal noted she could never buy them because a button would snag and rip the seats. The other thing I didn't like was the body roll. The thing floats around ... it's dead silent, and it rides very smooth - but I didn't find it very 'fun' to drive. It accelerates well, even the 2.5, but if you care how something turns or shifts, it's probably not for you. I thought you guys made the point well - for like 80-90% of people, it's going to be a truly great cruiser. The problem is that the other 10-20% are probably the majority of your audience. Thanks for the review, it was enough to get me out to test drive one. Cheers!

Surprisingly ppl who’s already had German or other luxury cars who’s also dealt with their high maintenance cost and frequent break downs get them in to the Genesis. It’s a Luxury car that’s fresh, not many ppl know about and look as expensive as European competitors with 10yr 100k warranty. Genesis car’s performance touched by Albert Biermann (formal Vice President of BMW M division Engineering department) is the perfect middle point of Japanese luxury cars and German Luxury cars. A lot of Lexus brand royal people get them selves in to Genesis as well since the new Lexus and new Acura has gotten so sporty with their ‘interesting’ design language… I hope Genesis make it out well and branch out more stand alone dealership network.

So I wasn’t a BMW fan boy and really shopped hard and it was a no-brainer better than the MB C 300 and Audi A5 and was so fired up about it. Then the electronic/technology gremlins hit and after three that would come and go, the fourth one needed a module that goes in the steering column and after four weeks of waiting I bailed on the BMW. Loved it but couldn’t help think what these problems would be like on my nickel! So I’m one of those guys that did LEAVE BMW for this product. Not much of a badge fan boy for any brand but it’s obvious when a high quality product slaps you into reality.

Sorry but after decades of BMWs, Porsches - drove home a GV70T-3.5 Prestige tonight. It's a far better-equipped and thought-out car than anything either of them offers. By the time you add as much of the Genesis technology (and much isn't available on ANY German car) - you're double the price. It's 2 years since it was introduced and from what I can see they got it right at the start, and it's just gotten better. The suspension looks identical to a BMW strut suspension they used for decades. I realize your review is 2 years old - but it's a really attractive car - especially for fans of German cars who actually care about driving. I do own two Porsches ('11 Cayenne Turbo and a '09 Boxster) and this is equal to the Cayenne in what it has in it, the luxury content, and performance.

Who's this for? At a base of roughly $44k, every camry, accord, crv, rav4 owner looking to upgrade to something nicer while not spending too much more. There's a lot of us regular people out there. EV pricing at $36k-$46k and marked up toyota/honda prices have conditioned the masses to accept that a decent new car costs around $42k already. This is just a little bit more, for so much more. I have the 2.5t advanced and it simply is the best car I've owned. It's a luxury suv that transforms into a sports sedan in Sports mode.
