I think it is a mediocre CUV, but my problem is the pandering hyper-marketty way they decided to exploit a name which has a certain history and meaning (Blazer) to be used on yet another mediocre CUV. It's all so sterile and corporate. If I have any other issue with the Blazer, it isn't that it's not a guzzly off-roaders but that it just isn't a better vehicle in general. It is so mediocre. In a market full of CUVs from a brand with plenty of mediocre CUVs already, why pump-out another dud of a CUV instead of putting some effort into making it better in some way. Nothing about the Chevy Blazer makes it the smart choice over multiple better CUV option other than if someone just really LOVES the styling for some specific reason. The climate control switches are switches and I like those.
@rars0n
2 жыл бұрын
"I hope more cars do this instead of adhering so vehemently to touch screens." I sure hope not. What a terrible design. I actually think they're worse than touchscreen-only controls (and I absolutely hate touchscreen controls). Having physical buttons that constantly change functions defeats the point of having physical buttons in the first place. Drivers should be able to access commonly used features without looking at them or only glancing briefly at them. If you accidentally push the wrong button, now the other buttons have changed their function and you have to actually think about which button to hit in order to change them back so that you can hit the correct button instead, which takes all of your attention off the road. It doesn't help that they're all the same buttons lined up in a row. There's no consideration for spacing the buttons out in a logical order or giving them unique shapes, they just all look and feel exactly the same (good luck finding the fourth button from the left just by feel). I would be totally aggravated if my HVAC controls were arranged in straight line like that. Economy cars from the 90's had better designed controls than this. It also adds a second step to adjusting something simple that only requires a single button in other cars. Like to turn on the seat heater, you first hit the seat button and then have to move your finger over and hit the heater button. It's incredibly stupid, if you ask me. This is clearly a feature designed for people who buy things because they're shiny and look cool, and not because they are good designs.
@darkairieal
2 жыл бұрын
@@rars0n I think you're right about that line of hvac controls being too similar to index quickly (like the row of buttons below them has dividers that a finger could rest on and count across) However having two "steps" to change controls can be done with two fingers in quick succession as a single motion. Like entering a keypad code it would become muscle memory for drivers without ever taking their eyes off the road.
@rars0n
2 жыл бұрын

I feel like 5 for styling was a little too low. I'm in camp RIVIAN but also have a HEV deposit and love both ideas. I think the styling on both is controversial and not immediately likeable by everyone so they should probably be set as equal. And if you set the styling as equal, by your other measures the HEV wins.

He needs to get rid of the styling category. Styling is an EXTREMELY subjective thing. People have wildly different opinions on what looks good. I often disagree with his view on style. I know it's the "Doug" score but having a 10 point category that is so extremely subjective is pretty crap when it can make or break cars on his scoring.

I agree, 5 was too low for Styling. Although I have the Hummer EV SUV reserved, which I think looks a lot better than the pickup. My R1S reservation is looking kinda boring now!

I also feel like practicality should not be a 9. Either lower the rivian or bump the hummer. Having both of those vehicles be equal doesn’t seem right to me. Even with rivian equipment tunnel, this thing is massive. He also said it’s the best driving pickup truck, so how did rivian get a better handling score? Just my worth nothing 2 cents, but in my mind makes sense

Nice thorough review as usual. The Hummer at a 5 compared to the Rivian at a 7 for styling? That's the difference between the Hummer being #1. Not a big fan of the size of the Hummer but IMO it looks better than the Rivian. Also the fact that you can take the tops off which isn't an option on the Rivian makes this a fantastic all around season vehicle and shouldn't be understated.

In typical GM fashion, expect all 4 tops to begin leaking water and creaking immediately after purchase. The rivian has a storage area between the rear seats and bed... Where is that in the hummer? Yeah so you see the hummer is trash compared to the rivian.

@@ormand3000 the Hummer is also designed around being astounding when off-roading whereas the Rivian is not. I don’t think it would be possible to have the same storage tunnel and rear wheel steering in the same truck.
