One onboard lap at the 2022 Gotland Grand National for a taste of this Swedish classic enduro which attracts over 3000 riders to an island in the Baltic Sea.
This is the morning amateur race where the sun gets you big time and honestly, in places it is unbelievably slick! The lighter patches on the ground are polished limestone, ‘just’ knuckles littering the track at times, at others metres long and wide stretches of bedrock, often invisible and genuinely like glass to ride on through so many riders for nearly 40 years of the event.
We’d never ridden the track before nor the bike, so it was all a bit eyes wide open (what you could see!) but we absolutely loved it. What an event.
It’s a slow start here, but it gets quicker and FYI, we’re riding as a marshall and really didn’t want to rub anyone up the wrong way pushing past them.
Enduro21 is grateful to the Gotland Grand National organisers, Gjermund Frostard at FXR for his help and a massive thanks also to Joakim Johansson, team manager of Johansson MPE Yamaha Enduro team for the loan of his personal bike. The 2022 Yamaha WR250F was a stocker and just the job to learn this mad place!
Get your entry in for next year, international riders are so welcome with classes for everyone from tiny kids to grandads (over 60s class anyone?). The atmosphere is pure enduro festival and for that we loved it:
