Love this video! I bought a used 2014 V8 S based on your last F-Type review and have zero regrets. The interior impresses everyone who first sees it, even though it makes me go “meh”, but it’s something I never think about the moment I start driving. The party trick for me is showing how chill the car can get in normal driving mode, because 99% of the time I can’t resist having the exhaust valves open in sport/dynamic mode. The sound, throttle response, and fun handling are incredibly addictive. You can tune any of these AJ V8 engines (on the F-Type and other JLR vehicles) to around 610hp with a simple $1000-dollar etune, and around 650 with pulley/belt swaps. It also sounds like an E85 tune is out for the V6 models, netting similar power figures as this car (and they came in a manual!), with development of a V8 tune underway. The LC is still on my list, as I’d feel more peace of mind putting a lot of miles on that, and the interior looks like a much better place to be when just putting around or on longer trips. My Jag is more a weekend/fun car to me, as it feels wrong driving it civilized unless you absolutely have to. I think this refreshed F-Types with the improved interior, suspension, and tamer (still nutty) sound may be a good bridge between the two, if you could only have one car.

I’ve had zero problems, aside from a couple lights on interior buttons near the gear shifter that flickered then went out as soon as I bought the car (they are symmetrical and likely at the end of the wiring chain, so don’t really care, but keeping my eye on that potentially-questionable electrical work). According to the forums, you want to make sure the battery stays relatively charged to avoid any electrical weirdness, so I just make sure to drive it regularly or keep it on a trickle charger. I bought mine with a super low mileage, with it sitting near 13k, so it may be a completely different experience later on, knock on wood. I forgot to mention there are several intake mods discussed on the Jaguar forums as well. You can get it sounding much louder if you’re into that. I’d love to be able to control it in a similar fashion to the exhaust. I get the vibe your itch for the car isn’t going to go away. I’d say go for it! You can always sell or report it stolen :)

@@jackholmes8105 I bought a 2015 F Type R a little over a year ago and have zero regrets. It took me a while to notice the interior flaws (and yes they are real) but driving, looking at and hearing the car have made me not care about them. Purchased at 26,000 mi, it now has about 35,000 mi and the only thing that’s gone bad is an O2 sensor. I do my long cross town and spirited drives in it. I typically use something else for the grocery runs or other more mundane duties.
@Bursar60

@@jackholmes8105 spend time on their Facebook groups to learn about the many issues. Their folks still defend them, but I also bought a 16 Ftype R based off your older video. Bought at 14k miles, sold at about 38k mile. Rear diff was already getting sketchy sounding way ahead of the 50k mile service interval, picked up noise in the front that is usually your supercharger coupler about to go, pre like2018 there's a plastic y pipe radiator line that likes to burst as a matter of time not if, which is a good way to cook the engine fast. As you've said bad infotainment bad speakers. My car has numerous plastic rattle and squeaks. Plug your own obd2 in and the battery will discharge after you remove it over a night of you don't reconnect battery. Automatic stop start re-enables automatically. Also the gauge is very picky about letting you check oil level. Edit also missed the other reply, the older v8s before exhaust sound nerfed constantly eat o2 sensors and if popcorn a lot eat the cat too.
@ItsTheNada
2 жыл бұрын
@@Bursar60 I think the rear diff service interval is wrong. The fluid should be changed probably twice as often as Jag says. Also, it’s gotta stay garaged. The inlets in the hood are prone to letting water in the intake and that kills the supercharger over time. I haven’t experienced the obd2 reader issue. Mine works fine. It’s how I diagnosed my check engine (O2 sensor). Oil change is a PITA because of no dipstick for sure but a lot of cars are going that way. I’m gonna check out that y pipe for sure.

@@FFE-js2zp lol the ZF8 is NOT a full manual. tf you smoking?
@FFE-js2zp
2 жыл бұрын
@@SoulRebel02 I’m smoking all manner of “super cars” with it. The ZF8 is a full manual, buts it’s only implemented as such on an F-Type AFAIK. When I say full manual, I mean it is manually shifted and does nothing automatically. That’s not ENTIRELY true because it won’t let you lug it. But when you have 8th geared for 350 mph and 700HP, that’s a death sentence. So I’m ok with calling that manual shifting. Lots of manuals have gear lockouts under certain conditions. Again, the ZF8 transmission never shifts on its own when you are in Manual. It’s also a CVT if you lay a tune on it. I tried the CVT tune but it was too weird for me to have a full transmission within each gear. I couldn’t get my brain around new tricks. It does however increase fuel efficiency (a V8 F-Type already gets 31 mpg stock) and shaves 0.4 secs off the quarter since RPM never moves from max torque. It uses clamping power to allow any RPM in all gears at any speed. So in S mode with the CVT, the RPM jumps to max torque and never budges even as it increments through the gears. In M mode with the CVT tune you control the gear manually with the paddles and you set whatever RPM you want with the throttle. You’ll actually coast at idle, in gear, if you lighten up on the throttle in any gear. It’s the most incredible tranny ever in a production car. It also gives you 5-7% more WHP then an conventional manual and way more still compared to a conventional auto. And with a fairly harsh tune (Rolls Royce wouldn’t tune their ZF8s this way) it shifts as fast as a DCT but with roughly 200 lbs less weight. More weight is saved, and more WHP is gained, comparing to another AWD, in ZF8’s driving all 4 wheels.

It's a lovely car by any measure, so nice to look at. It will be a future classic and this configuration might be the best ever offered. Sorry, but the LC is not a player to my mind, just a poser with a trendy design language that just isn't there; no mystique whatsoever. Infotainment systems are all destined to be 'dated' so a straightforward, handsome design is the best you can hope for. With all that power and thunderous soundtrack available at any time, it would be hard to care. You had better be watching the road anyway.

As for the comparisons to Lexus LC500, I have test driven both before custom ordering the F-Type P450 RWD. I feel the F-Type is a far superior car to LC500 at any price. Firstly, the LC500 is not only heavy on paper, but it *feels* heavy and is unwilling to dance on corners. Inexplicably frequent and busy transmission shifts on the LC500 are also very awkward, much like Mercedes' 9G transmission awkwardness. More importantly, the chassis of the LC500 is entirely made of steel, except for the pillars and the roof area. The all-steel cheap-ish chassis construction at $110K+ price range for the LC500 is simply unacceptable to an educated enthusiast. Furthermore, much of the underlying suspension components in the LC500 are quite antiquated and come from lower-grade common Toyota/Lexus parts bin. Adding insult to injury, the infotainment system in the LC500 is a joke - it relies on an awkward and uncomfortable touchpad user interface that makes the overall system user experience so antiquated, even compared to a 2022 Honda Civic. If you don't like the F-Type, don't get the LC500. Buy 992 911 Base instead. The components in the LC500 do not justify its price tag. Toyota decided to rip off consumers for once, but most consumers are not biting it anyway. LC500 sales figures are worse than F-Type's initial launch years.

Look at it as a sophisticated and luxurious base C7 Corvette convertible and this car starts to make sense.

A manual version would be really fun. A 60's E-Type would still be my bucket list Jag though

The question would be is it worth $20k more than a Mustang GT convertible.

It's a nice car but every single time I'd get a bare bones Cayman S and never look back.

I'd take the jag over the LC for character alone, I know it's not the better car, but I don't care

As much as I love the F-Type I agree with Mark on this one. I'd rather spend the extra cash on the LC500 convertible. That being said the F-Type is still gorgeous, it still sounds amazing and I'm glad it's still around in RWD, V8 form.

Honestly for a delta of $30,000 I'd get the Jaguar over the Lexus, and spend the difference on cooking appliances.

Mark, I drive mine to the limit within the speed limits all the time, other times we wont talk about. The sound is awesome and it fits within my budget. Love it.

You and me, both. Thought the old headlights were very mundane, and the new skinny ones much better. I slightly preferred the old taillights, but they aren't that different. Most of the car is just as pretty as always.

Username checks out. But I would agree. I actually didn't like the sound of Jags engine. Its too much. I already feel like a knob in my Porsche. This car is the next level. I am bias though. I also own a 987.2 Cayman. But I swear my 2.9L sounds way better revving out on a stock exhaust then that Jag does.

I like the refresh. The headlights went from looking like a cat that's being petted too hard. To a prowling cat, ready to pounce. And the taillights dropped the passe round styling elements..
