New-generation safety systems
In terms of safety, the New Jeep Compass offers an even more complete specification, suitable for everyday driving needs. As well as the systems now available as standard across the range - including Forward Collision Warning and LaneSense Departure Warning, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and front, side and curtain airbags - the active and passive safety specifications are further enhanced with new devices and innovative technology that refines the interaction between driver, vehicle and road. These systems increase the driver's field of vision, help make information easier to see and enable driver-assistance systems to ensure a safe and stress-free driving experience, especially in the city. These include Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Assist, Drowsy Driver Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Recognition, all offered as standard features across the range. Even better, the New Jeep Compass is also the first Jeep vehicle in Europe to include Highway Assist, a driver assistance system for level 2 (L2) autonomous driving, using the combination of the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centring systems when driving on motorways (optionally available in the second half of the year).
A full range of engines
The range of engines in the New Compass includes petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, all Euro 6D Final-compliant. This includes the updated version of the 1.6-litre Multijet II, now capable of delivering 130 hp at 3,750 rpm, and 320 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The update has seen a 10 hp increase in power delivery versus the 1.6-litre diesel engine available on the previous model, which also translates into benefits both in terms of consumption (10% lower) and CO2 emissions (11 g/km less in the WLTP cycle).
The petrol range includes a 4-cylinder 1.3-litre GSE turbo engine with two output levels: 130 hp and 270 Nm of peak torque in combination with a six-speed manual transmission; or 150 hp and 270 Nm of peak torque, paired with a Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT). Both petrol options are front-wheel drive.
The 1.3-litre engine is designed to offer outstanding performance both on- and off-road while delivering excellent driving comfort. It has been updated with specific turbo-matching, maximising the engine response at low engine speed and reducing CO2 emissions and consumption by up to 27% (WLTP cycle) when compared to previous 4x4 petrol version with automatic transmission.
The 4-cylinder 1.3-litre turbo engine with plug-in hybrid technology, 190 hp or 240 hp and 270 Nm of torque, six-speed automatic transmission and eAWD powers the 4xe versions and completes the New Compass engine range. Today '4xe' identifies all Jeep 4x4 vehicles featuring enhanced hybrid capability and performance, guaranteeing the best possible balance between efficiency, driving fun and attention to the environment.
On the 4xe versions, the 1.3-litre turbo engine is paired with an electric motor located on the rear axle, powered by an 11.4 kWh battery that can be recharged while driving or via an external power outlet: either at home on your domestic mains, using the efficient and exclusive easyWallbox or the more advanced Connected Wallbox, or from a public charge point. On its own, the efficient 1.3-litre turbo engine delivers two output levels (130 hp and 180 hp), plus the 60 hp produced by the electric motor, adding up to a total of 190 hp (Longitude and Limited versions) or 240 hp (Trailhawk and S). In terms of torque, the electric motor produces 250 Nm, with the combustion engine generating 270 Nm. By combining the internal combustion engine and the electric motors, the New Jeep Compass 4xe guarantees remarkable performance and driving pleasure with acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in around 7.5 seconds (according to the version), a pure electric top speed of 130 km/h, rising to 200 km/h in hybrid mode. Rapid response and smooth delivery ensure maximum driving pleasure.
4xe models are also ideal cars for driving in the city, courtesy of plug-in hybrid technology, offering zero-emissions travel in full-electric mode, with a range between 47 and 49 km (WLTP cycle), depending on the version. On longer hauls, with the internal combustion engine, average CO2 emissions are between 44 and 47 g/km in hybrid mode (WLTP cycle) depending on the version, while in case of extended off-road driving, the two electric motors featuring Powerloop ensure that eAWD traction is always available to take on extreme adventures with peace of mind.
