Really wish they provided reviewers with 2 different cars, their "preferred" option package and a base model. It's getting pretty obvious that manufacturers are trying to hide behind the MSRP of phantom launches at a low price. Have been trying to find a first suv for my mother and it's been a total chore. Either reviews don't match the product we're seeing or things are wildly more expensive than we're being told It's not because of the market either, it's because base models don't exist or ship to dealers 1 in 20.
@karanpatel7815
2 жыл бұрын
It's more of a supply chain issue. Before dealers would have 1,000s of cars at their lot, giving people alot of options at reasonable prices. Now that the supply of cars gone down, dealers are gouging prices on all models. If I were you, I'd buy a used car from an independent buyer. Just be sure to get a mechanic to check it out before you buy.
@bigcjm
2 жыл бұрын
So here is the thing. Base model vehicles are incredibly low margin products. So if they have a choice to order something with almost no margin or something that would sell with twice the margin they'll order those. Also the folks who provide the cars for reviews are out to give the best impression which is why you see these folks reviewing totally maxed versions. If you're car shopping for the most amount of options to choose from you always want to be in thier middle trim.
@joeamith838

@JS-sy8mo

I'll also add that the differences between top trim and lower or lowest trims arent always on the spec sheets either, so even more reason I'd want a reviewer who knows their stuff to point things out. For instance, Mark says this jeep is really quiet, but does the base model have the same amount/quality of sound deadening material?? Small stuff like that is literally impossible to find out without someone (such as a reviewer) having access to two cars at once.

One negative in FCA’s products interior is the overuse of Bass in the high and low end sound systems. I’ve realized that in my grandmother’s Pacifica Limited with the Harman Kardon system you’d have to turn the bass to negative on some songs which can be an annoyance. You are not going to find these features on a Toyota Highlander, Acura MDX or Lexus RX350. I have owned a well maintained 2016 Limited with 75K miles with NO electronic, mechanical or drivetrain issues. I have also looked at the truck frame Toyota 4Runner in comparison. The Toyota gets 15 mpg from an aging 270-hp 4.0-liter V-6 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota interior looks dated since it was designed in 2005. I took delivery of my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve V8 2 weeks ago (1/12/22) and have been very impressed. I do agree with your analysis of the McIntosh Audi system being off (too bass heavy and lacking audio detail). Where I disagree with your analysis is what type of buyer the upper-level trims attract. I’ve owned Mercedes, BMWs, Audis and most recently a Porsche Macan S. You can’t get a decently equipped base version of any of those for what you can get a fully loaded 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve ($71,515). I was very impressed with the features, quality and look of the new Summit Reserve trim, but what have easily looked away at the Limited or other models before buying another German. Night vision, massaging seats, quilted leather, 4 heated and cooled seats, passenger screens and pano roofs are all things you pay a premium for, but less than the competition. It’s these “silly” features that made me notice this new Jeep and the reason I bought my first MOPAR vehicle. Cudos to Jeep!

Another insightful review. I recently purchased the Limited L which seems to the sweet spot in price and features, and the review was spot on. My previous vehicle was a Volvo XC60 ( your volvo ownership advice steered me away from an XC90) and what stood out for me was the design que difference. While Volvo has an elegant and pleasing look and feel. My first and lasting impression when I sat in the GC L is this is a jeep and reminded me of the same impression I had owning a 2001 cherokee classic. A few items, the 10.4 inch Uconnect screen is at times too bright which is fixable and at times way to dim which does not seem to be adjustable The one area you missed was the Jeep connect connected services. It is not ready for prime time. Jeep should have spent some time using OnStar before launching Jeep Connect. You guys are my go to Utube channel.

Prices are much higher than just four years ago. My dad's '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295. It jumped to $47K by '21 and this new TH is $51,670. It's like $8500 more now. New platform, more refined, but practically, there's not a lot of difference in features. And the drivetrain is carry-over! Add the V8 and lux group and you're pushing $60K for TH. Plus, in '18 they didn't charge for paint ($400 now), and destination charge, obviously a profit center is, $1800 now, ($1100 in '18). Unreasonable gouging for what cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality. No thanks.

Not a lot of difference in features.... How? Digital gauge cluster, active lane centering, night vision, heads up display, digital rear view mirror, massage seats, ambient lighting, cooled second row seats, 4 zone climate control, and passenger screen are all features that were never available on a Grand Cherokee. Significantly improved interior quality, less panel gaps, smoother ride, crisper shifting transmission, quieter interior, better handling, and better braking. It is better in every way and worth the cost imo.
@jre617
2 жыл бұрын
@@jjchockey Not exactly. Digital gauges before, very crisp shifting before with the same ZF AT, especially in Sport Mode, and it's still a 5,000 lb brick so handling won't be that different. Braking depends on the tires; you don't know if it's better. I was using Trailhawk for the example and off-road equipment isn't different except sway bars. All the other stuff is just tech and safety nonsense that may or may not make much real difference. In any case electronics do not add up to an $8500 difference - over 3 times inflation. Dress it up and pay for it if you want, but this is gouging.
@jjchockey
2 жыл бұрын
@@jre617 digital gauge cluster was never available. Yes the ZF 8 speed was good before and yes it still weighs a lot however the transmission is still crisper and smoother, the handling and ride quality is noticeably better, as well as the braking ability. Their are improvement to every facet of this car and many new features that were never available in a Grand Cherokee before. This new Grand Cherokee pushes it much closer to the luxury segment than ever before. You also have to consider the amount of standard features it has now. A limited with a 10” screen and pano sunroof costs 50k. A 2021 WK with a pano sunroof, LED lights, and all of the safety tech that is now standard costs about 47k so the price is not $8500 difference like you claim. I have seen so many people that love to just look at a base price and never think about the standard features you are getting for the price.
@jre617
2 жыл бұрын
@@jjchockey After many hours driving my dad's '18 GC Trailhawk: it does have a digital gauge display, so, you are just wrong there. Why do you claim the brakes are any better? As I said, the TH's base price is about $8500 ($8375 actually) more than '18. The other disturbing thing is you cannot get the 5.7 in a Limited anymore. You want a V8? You'll be pushing $60K in a higher trim level. I understand, it's a new platform and it has some tech upgrades, but the price increases are real and just too much for what is not Toyota quality.

I am the proud owner of an 08 grand cherokee limited (back when that was the top trim). The only option it didn't have was the rear seat entertainment, it stickered for 43,000 dollars, I got it for 10,000 dollars with 90k miles It has the *quadratrac 2 awd system that has FRONT and rear mechanical limited slip diffs, a 2 speed transfer case thats a 50/50 to 40/60 split front/rear,* and of course a 5.7 hemi, that doesn't have VVT. It also has underbody protection for the whole front area and gas tank. It could tow 7200lbs but I've never towed with it, but since it has the hemi it came factory with an XL engine cooler and a transmission cooler. *The sound system isnt great, its mid 2000's bose.* The cargo space in it sucks, the back seat is TINY and it eats gas, like 13-15 mpg eats gas, but that's what its rated for anyways so I can't complain. I have also lifted it 2 inches, put 32 inch general grabber at2's on it (stock was 29 inch all seasons) and its high enough off the ground that I can comfortably crawl under it for oil changes without a lift. It drives comfortably through 6-7 inches of snow, but the diff in the solid rear axle is 9.5 inches off the ground so I haven't really pushed past 7 inches because once you're dragging in the snow you're done. I believe under the rest of the body is about 13-14 inches of ground clearance though. It's driven through about 10 inches of standing water, its water fording depth from the factory is 21 inches, with the lift and tires its 23-24. I know woodland trails are a breeze for it and even going over downed trees isn't much of an issue. The grand cherokee is a truly one of a kind vehicle, especially in the trailhawk. An overland trim with the offroad package is mechanically identical to the trailhawk, just with a lot more luxuries on the inside. The amount it can tow for its size is insane, its the length of a camry but it can pull 6000lbs in all configs and 7200lbs with the hemi. This is a function over form kind of vehicle, which is why it stands out so much. The luxury top trims aren't anything special because that's not what's special about this vehicle.
