Our family has owned two Sorentos in the last decade, a 2013 model and currently a 2018 version. Each a top trim SX-L with the (then) optional V6 engine. The car is my wife's daily driver, our big dog's 2nd home, and the family's "trip-mobile" for extended journeys. We've been very happy with each of vehicle having put about 80K miles on the first and now nearly 60K miles on our current Sorento. No significant issues with either one and I might have to pry my wife's cold dead fingers from the steering wheel to convince her to replace her beloved Sorento. That's not an issue, however, since unfortunately, despite some significant upgrades and the replacement of the V6 with a more fuel efficient turbo 4 engine as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, we won't be considering the new Sorento. The reason? The only way to get a 2nd row bench in the Sorento is to opt for the lowest trim of the non-hybrid version without the turbo engine along with a host of other features. To be clear, as a family of only three humans plus a large dog, we, like most Sorento owners, keep the third row folded beneath the cargo floor about 90% of the time. Nevertheless, the third row is a major convenience when we need to transport 6 or 7 passengers on a local outing that doesn't require more than minimal cargo space in the rear and the alternative is to use two vehicles. By eliminating a 2nd row bench in all but the cheapest, least powerful version of the Sorento KIA has limited accommodations to four or fewer humans. And to make matters worse, "Fido" is simply not "designed" to use a captain chair. Therefore, accommodating him would involve nearly always deploying the third row bench or having him share space behind the second row with cargo such as groceries. (Not a good idea.) When the 2022 Sorento was introduced, I had hoped that the hybrid versions would include a 2nd row bench at least as an option. No such luck. So if we opt to replace our 2018 model, we will likely have to sacrifice a third row, altogether, by choosing the closely related Hyundai Santa Fe.
@ramar9
2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I'm not sure about this model either. It would have been a no brainer car for me if they added the 2nd row bench option.
@irfan6309

Those are same as my thoughts. Had Santa Fe included the optional 3rd row along the 2nd row bench would have made so many Customers choose Santa Fe over Sorento. Thats the reason that hyundai deciding against third row.

I have a PHEV right now, and it gets about 45 miles average if it’s fully charged. Most of the time, I will get about 35 miles in town between the AC, uphill and accelerations. 35 mile range is on the low end, it’s a good start for a SUV, but it would be awesome if it’s about 50 to 55 miles EV range.

The problem with expensive PHEVs are that people with that much money won't really bother charging every damn night all night to save fuel for 30miles. Some sort of automatic plugging, magnetic, wireless dock, anything would solve the problem. Fighting with cables constantly along with slow charging needs to have a bigger reward than 30 miles or so.

These reviewers are out of touch. NO I AM NOT BUYING A PHEV FOR THE ELECTRIC ONLY RANGE. I did not have my questions answered. I am cross shopping it with a regular hybrid because there is a $6500 government tax refund. What I would prefer is drive it in the hybrid mode until the battery dies. That is what I would consider the real world range and that is the efficiency I care about. For example, "I drove the car 80 miles. I used the entire 13.4 kWh battery and burned a gallon of fuel. After the battery died I traveled another 350 miles and burned 9 gallons. Therefore the PHEV can get you 80 miles per gallon for commuting and 38MPG while on a road trip." No one wants to drive a 100 horsepower electric 3 row SUV for 32 miles. That's as if you gave me an extra gallon of fuel but I have to pay and remember to charge it every night on top of the $10,000 premium over the hybrid and I only have access to a 2/5ths of power.
@avery4528
2 жыл бұрын
What would be really sweet is if I can set how many miles I want to go before the battery dies. Say I drive 50 miles a day. Set the battery to provide most of the hybrid support. Say I am driving 500 miles today. Set the battery to die when the tank reaches empty. Say I'm driving 250 miles. The battery dies when the tank reaches half full. That way I am maximizing the driving performance and the efficiency. This in an SUV that has a 4000Ib tow rating combined with an electric car like a Leaf that is affordable because of the smaller battery pack. Then all the non homeowners would have regular hybrids. If we make electric cars that have 80kwh and electric trucks that have even larger battery packs the cost would skyrocket because there wouldn't be any supply along with even more constraint on residential and commercial building energy availability.

EV adoption is accelerating every year. Exponential not linear. The only limiting factor is batteries. The number of electric vehicles and types of vehicles and trucks is growing. Many people are holding off buying a new car until the electric vehicle they want becomes available. Electric vehicles are just better. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs and amazing technology. Gasoline and diesel are OLD polluting technology. So last century. Electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, electric trash haulers, electric snow blowers, electric lawn mowers, electric weed whackers, electric hedge trimmers, electric snow mobiles, electric water craft, electric garden tools, electric mechanic tools, electric motor cycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric farm tractors, electric construction equipment, electric delivery vehicles, ...... everything is going electric. No worries about starting after sitting for a few months. Gas always needs repairs. If you care about the future for your children care about climate change
