According to Lexus, it is an m340i competitors and not the M3/M4 competitor because the suspension, chassis, tires, wheels, brakes etc. are all not tuned for that. That is why it is cheaper than the RCF. The RCF has much stiffer suspension/chassis, big brake kit, wheels, tires, cooling systems and sport seats etc. all meant to push the car on the track. IS500 F-Sport is tuned way too soft for the track. That is why RCF costs significantly more

@@jeffbreazeal6293 This car epitomizes the saying Aristotle made famous: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts". This car isn't the fastest, loudest, quickest, whatever adjective for "really fast" that you want to use. But the way the car is put together and how it makes you feel when you drive it is special. The NA V8 is still plenty fast - but also soooo silky smooth on acceleration from any speed. The styling (to me) is sublime with how its lines, creases and angles are assembled. The car oozes premium quality in almost every detail. It's built different than any German performance car I've driven or been in and I've been in them all at one time or another. It just has a way of delivering super high quality in a really distinctive way. Everything feels precision built for maximum longevity. Major repairs (not maintenance) include the holy Trinity of gaskets - oil pan, valve cover, oil filter housing - water pump and thermostat, window regulators, plus assorted trim pieces. Basically you add $3600 -$5000 depending if you do some odd the work yourself. It's a good amount but it's not fatal. I've owned it for 11 years and still really like it. Great first drive review MM. I’m glad Lexus read the discussion you and I had about pricing on this vehicle. They got the price spot on IMO. Very comparable to the M340i on pricing and leaving the higher price point for the full fat ISF with a 600HP NA V8. If I’m reading MM’s tea leaves correctly, the full F will probably be priced at the same level as the M3. I will definitely be ordering one of these as soon as I can get my dealer to allocate one to me.

You will love it . . . As you could tell by the episode, these speak to me . . . Don't know if they are going to commit to anything with more performance . . . but if they do, it will be a function of these being a complete sales home run.

Don’t hold your breath on an N/A V8 from Lexus making 600hp cause you’ll die of suffocation. If there is an F version of the IS, it will either use a slightly more power version of the current V8 the 500 has, a tuned version of the TT V6, or a TT V8 that Lexus has yet to release, but is in the works.

13:00 Id argue you are all wrong. Much stiffer? No. This is Lexus. They should pull a page out of Porsche 911 Turbo. IE FAST, and plush. Thats so rare these days. Make it fast and make it comfortable, id target Alpina, NOT M for Lexus. You want manic go buy something else.

I watched this again and like the idea of a GT3 version of this ONLY if Lexus keeps the true F brand alive and kicking. To fill up the line leave the IS500 at the top do a true IS F, then a GT3 version with a very low publicly announced production number and that would be the best. Problem is Lexus doesn't want to continue funding F. And Lexus didn't give us this Lexus North America did...well so I'm told.

This isn't going to be successful. It's too slow. A BMW M340i is this price, 3/4 of a second faster to 60 and better mpg. I know ppl will say the BMW won't be rubbing on 10 years but the buyer of this car won't be driving this car in 10 years. Toyota is just recycling an existing engine and existing transmission. It's like they are phoning it until they go all electric.

Not even close to an M3 my guy. Not at all. The M340i is a more "mellow" M3. This car has nothing on the M3. It's slower, less sporty when driving, outdated interior, less aggressive exterior.... basically nothing like the M3. It's an over priced IS350 with a quiet V8 that doesn't really perform how a V8 in a $60,000 car should.
@richardh3587
3 жыл бұрын
Kinda surprised by all the m3 talk. Even before pricing was released Lexus had made it pretty clear this is meant to be a 340 competitor not an m3. If it were they’d have called it the IS-F. Anyway I totally agree that we all have no excuse for not buying this. But…somehow we will all have excuses and then complain when it gets cancelled in 2 years

Lexus why make the IS500 if you didn't plan to go balls out. The IS is suppose to be Lexus sports sedan and you made the IS500 a grand tourer. Beautiful car let down by a company with no balls. I would have been very interested if it was a better performer

Will be my next car if... there’s NO dealer mark up! This is basically the price of a loaded is350. Also the same price as a similarly equipped m340i, c43 and s4. Assuming I can buy one of these at MSRP I’ll be buying one. Was dead set on a new Supra for the same amount, but I’ll take a NA 5.0 V8 before it’s gone for good. Great video!

IS-F GT with a 600hp n/a V8 would be more rarer than an affordable LFA, but if they're still committed to it before electrification, make it at least competitive (unlike the RC-F, which if a refresh is due should look like the IS with two doors instead of four) with BMW or Cadillac's V division. And I'm still wishin the LC F becomes a real performance flagship someday.
