2022 Range Rover
Although it has blue-collar roots dating back more than a half-century the 2022 Range Rover's high-end interior and first-class curb appeal are designed to attract wealthy, white-collar buyers. While its transformation has been decades in the making, this leather-lined limo has reached a point where it's nearly six-figure starting price seems an appropriate ask. The cabin features upscale finishes such as leather, wood, and thickly-piled carpeting. And there’s plenty of tech too. Buyers can choose either a turbocharged inline-six or a thundering 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine, but all models come standard with off-road-capable features, such as an all-wheel-drive system, a rear-wheel steering system, and an air suspension that can be raised for extra ground clearance. Few Range Rover owners would dare to venture too far from paved roads, but knowing you could if you wanted to is, in fact, a luxury. In an odd twist, this new generation of Range Rover, launched for the 2022 model year will sell alongside a 2022 model of the previous generation until inventory runs out.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Like the outgoing generation Range Rover, the new model offers a plush interior decked out with rich leathers and woods, but buyers who want a more sustainable cabin can opt for a new leather-free option, which subs-in wool or other textiles. The interior can be arranged to seat four, five, or seven depending on configuration and wheelbase. An optional motorized divider for the cargo area helps keep things from moving around too much during travel, and the Range Rover's split rear liftgate can be used as convenient and comfortable seating for outdoor events.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All models receive a new 13.1-inch curved infotainment display with Land Rover's latest Pivi Pro interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard and the system also receives Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. Other standard features include in-dash navigation, wireless smartphone charging, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 13.7-inch digital gauge display. A rear-seat entertainment system with dual 11.4-inch displays is available, as is a Meridian stereo system with 35 speakers.
2022 Lexus LX
Lexus's flagship LX SUV has been redesigned for 2022, sporting an upgraded interior and riding on a modernized platform and powered by a twin-turbocharged engine. Based on the new Toyota Land Cruiser-which, sadly, will not be sold in the U.S.-the LX600 takes off-road capability seriously but doesn't skimp on the luxury. The previous generation came with a burly V-8 engine, but the new version will make do with a 409-hp twin-turbo V-6. Four-wheel drive remains standard and the LX can be equipped with a number of off-road goodies, including a height-adjustable suspension system. Lexus richened the new LX600’s interior to compete with plusher contemporaries-large luxury SUVs such as the BMW X7, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the new LX receives a modern and luxurious makeover, with a wide center console between the front seats that creates a cozy cockpit environment. Quilted leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped dashboard, wood trim, and smoked-chrome accents gives the LX a high-end appearance and luxe ambiance. The entry-level Standard trim comes with room for five across in two rows of seats; the Premium, Luxury, and F Sport trims come with a third row of seats that increases passenger capacity to seven. The top-spec Ultra Luxury model is only offered as a four-seat layout, with dual captain's chairs in the rear divided by a center console, plus rear-seat entertainment displays, wireless smartphone charging capability, and specially designed seats to maximize comfort.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The LX's dashboard comes with three standard displays, an 8.0-inch screen for the gauge cluster, a 12.3-incher for the infotainment, and a separate 7.0-inch screen for climate and vehicle controls. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both expected to be standard and could even be offered with wireless connectivity. Wireless charging will be offered, and Lexus says audiophiles will be able to upgrade the stereo to a 25-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system.
