Like your ideas. I'm old, late 60s and my dad had all of us kids (big family) track our reading on index cards. He brought each of us a little wooden recipe box in which to store our cards. As I aged, I switched to college ruled 3 ring paper and binders, because I wanted to write more notes, quotes, and opinions. There was a period of time, long ago, when my best friend and I read the same book and we each wrote in my book journal. It has been fascinating to re-read some of my favorites and note how my view has changed with age and experience. The books become part of you because the journal makes you think about them more deeply. There have been busy times in my life (attending university, establishing a career, getting married), when my book journal has few pages, and more quiet times when I add many pages. I have also kept a diary for all these years, and sketchbooks, and all these journals together, are my own story of my life. Every now and then, I look back at what I read, say in the summer, 40 years ago, and I am right back there. My book journal is less of a method of tracking pages or number of books, than it is how they affected me, changed me, became part of my life. It has been a very personal, private, and rewarding part of my life. Happy reading!

I've been a voracious reader since 6th grade - I'm 71 now...But, I JUST started my reading journal in Dec 2021 for books I read in 2022. Because I didn't use ALL the pages (Scribbles That Matter iconic version), I'm using it in 2023 with a few tweaks I learned from 2022. Unlike you, I DO spend time on a structured page for Review/Summary/Stats. I like to do that in advance on Saturday or Sunday mornings when it's quiet... I'm a scrapbooker too - so I love decorating my pages. My 'Booklie' [reading journal] is super fat and chunky! I have a Collection in my 1st BuJo with the titles of all the books I read since 6th grade [that I remember! BUt dozens of sci-fi and romance novels are missing... 🙂 tfs!

I have a small library of half read books. I need a place to keep track of the nonfiction lessons I am trying to incorporate into my life. Also, a way to dive into the splendor of a novel and come out with something on the other side. A reading journal is perfect for this; so I am attempting to create one. This is my first year with the trend. I am already enjoying the process.

I've had a reading journal since 2019, and the difference in popularity in the last 3 years is crazy to me! When I first was looking for ideas there were barely any videos about dedicated journals for reading, and now there are so many creators who have them! I love having a reading journal as a yearly keepsake of the books I read and how I felt about them. I also use it as a creative outlet, so its cool to look back at my different themes over time.

I agree that it has to be intuitive! I started keeping a book journal last year too and have written down everything from quotes and impressions to whole rants to just “meh” depending on the book but my goal is to actually remember what I read and how I felt about it. Also no set structure makes it so much easier to keep up with!! Really love your setup!

I started my reading journal this year as a creative outlet for my stressful life. I loved Elizabeth from plant based bride's journal style so I went with her scrapbook style with pasting in book covers and fan art and doodles. It helps me to reflect on my favs and remember what I've read because I read a lot of books and I forget somethings when writing reviews.

Last year was the first year I had a reading journal that I used every single month. I used it a *lot*, recording detailed notes for more complicated fantasy and doing some designed quote pages for the books I didn't need to be more thoughtful about. It's so fun looking at my monthly setups and notes from the past year.

I started using a reading journal at the end of 2020 because I saw some friends using one. Last year and this year were when I started taking more reading notes for review and memory purposes. Since I print out a lot of book covers to use in my journal, it's nice to have such a visual representation of the books I go through.

I'll be making my third yearly reading journal this year. I typically do a bunch of stuff, like a book goal, continuing series tracker, physical tbr, what books I've read in the year and I do monthly sections where I make a list of books that sound good to me, and I list the books I actually read, their page count, and my thoughts on the book/a basic plot outline

Last year I started writing down my thoughts/notes on Notion, but I missed the feeling of writing things down on paper, so I decided to start a reading journal this year. I'm loving it so far, I like the idea of picking it back up in a couple years and see which books I was loving 😊 Mine is also very simple, I find that I tend to get uninspired when things are too complicated to keep up with, and I want my reading journal to be fun and free of judgement (I don't care if my handwriting is messy or if it doesn't look aesthetic). After all, reading is supposed to be fun, an escape, not a chore. Love from Portugal ❤😘

My first reading journal was a year long assignment in middle school. The teacher wanted us to tab and post it note in the books with thoughts then paste them into the journal, sometimes selecting one to make an expanded journal entry on. We would also use reading time tracking book marks for each books and then past those in with a general book review. 📖

I use a few things together to track my reading. I use a simple monthly planner to track when I started and finished books throughout the year. I use a book reviews travelers notebook just to write down a few thoughts on each of the books. And I have an Excel spreadsheet where I tracks more detailed stuff because it makes charts and graphs so I have some cool stats to look at at the end of the year. I don't really do anything with the stats, they're just kind of interesting to see

I've already thought about creating a physical reading journal. But since I read almost exclusively self-help books and the majority of them are in English (my native language is French), I find an online solution more relevant to me. Especially since I like to take detailed notes on what I read. I find that changing the medium allows me to step back and process the information.

I can really relate to the comment you made about how your speedreading mind doesn't like stopping to take notes and this is how I've felt going back to when I was in school. I started a reding journal for the first time this year after using a spreadsheet for years. I based the spreads partly on your video from last year and am really enjoying it. IAfter the first month, I do think I'll move to a simpler template for each book - loved the look of the design you did last year, but like you, I find having to make it detailed for each book it getting in the way of using the journal (currently 3 books behind in the journaling part). Thanks for the inspiration!

I have a bujo that I use more like a diary/journal/sketchbook. I always have a tracker for reading in each months set up. At the end of a days entry, I always indicate the name of the book I’m reading at the time and the author. If I missed a day or two journaling and happened to have finished a book between the entries, I’ll note it as ‘read’ & ‘reading’. I’ll give the book a star rating, but I don’t do more than that. I read 2~3 books a week, so I don’t really have time to write up a synopsis.

I have an A&O A5 journal for reading (books & audiobooks), movies, TV shows, and switch games. I have annual trackers so I can see what I read/watched. Then I have a running journal that I date when I finished each thing. I only write the month a bit bigger otherwise I don't make layouts. I used it last year, and if I use it at the same rate this year, I'll probably have enough space for another year or two. 😄 Just 2-3 sentences is usually all I jot down.

I think having a reading journal would be super nice for when I'm reading books that others may not like to hear about (like really weird quotes that I may like but others would find disturbing or odd - usually due to the book being smutty or trigger warning-esque). Some place safe to really think about the book. Then I can go to Twitter/goodreads with my final *edited* thoughts.

I started a reading journal waay back in 2019, and it started out with me writing my thoughts down as I went along, making note of passages and things that stuck out to me. It's changed a lot since I started it, and I just keep it simple--I write a few paragraphs of my thoughts on the book and how I felt while reading it. And I'm still using the same notebook I got in 2019 😂I haven't written in it all that much last year, but I only have a few pages left in it. Here's hoping I fill them out this year!
