I did this song for my chorus concert and in my opinion, I didn’t like cutting the “wading through muddy waters” part short. I feel like it deserves to be long and to let the first harmonies of the song ring through the audience’s ears.

Why didn't they just sing the entire song in the correct key... she sang the first 2 lines an octave higher and then switched to the correct key... what was the purpose of that? You would get more of a dramatic effect with the contrasting keys... that was a dumb idea!!!

@@Incogn3gr0e thats a complete whole different generation. You blame the people who were responsible from that generation. Not the entire race, generation’s to generations. Thats just plain hate and racism. Being racist to a black=Being racist to a white person is not different

I think it isn't as good because they chose to take it so high. The subject matter is somber/dark that calls for a low tone. I don't know if they are lacking males to give it that base. The contrast of the high lead singer to the deep base of the choir etc is what makes the song sound so gripping imo. But they're kids so who really cares?
@jaejohnson4631
Жыл бұрын
@@joshuaraj3572 finding it insensitive is not the same as blaming them for slavery. What is wrong with you? If your grandfather raped my grandmother and killed my father, I know that's not you and not your fault. But if you go around singing songs written about my grandmother, knowing your grandfather got away with it, you're still a jerk. It doesn't mean you did it. It does make you a jerk. There are ways to do it without being a jerk, but that takes more planning than "nice sounding song. Lets do it. if we put a black girl on first we should be good". Current Americans are all responsible for our past and future legacy, which includes good and bad things. That's all Americans. Just like if you get grandpa's inheritance you also get grandpa's debts, if you want to live with America's blessings, you must live with America's sins. But the fact remains, nearly all the people actively standing in the way of basic changes to end the universal systemic racism that is happening today, right now, happen to have some similarities. Any blame going around is for that. Not slavery. Forget slavery, just deal with the wrongs happening today.
