Got myself a silver base Baleno with smash and grab with nice tinting and a feature where it locks the car when I turn the ignition key. From Boksburg with a full tank to Evander and back to Rustenburg it gave me on the computer 19,3 kmpl and I was driving 120kmph with some speed control and through some towns. The calculation at the pump was 19.53kmpl so I'm glad to say it's onboard computer is very accurate. The car is touching 17.7kmpl to 18kmpl with very sedate driving to work and back through stop and go traffic with the aircon on. For a new engine that's still tight this is very good. I have no idea why anyone needs a BMW or Mercedes if they can have this.

The GL Baleno is nothing but a bargain. At 225k you are getting a very very good deal.

I recently got the Baleno version. Very happy with it so far. Havent driven that much but i love the standard tech that it comes with. Im new to the android auto functionality since im coming from a 2011 polo which is ancient in comparison lol

Best review of this car I've see so far. Great job! I bought the XR a few weeks ago and I absolutely concur with your findings. Not so sure if I need to buy a brown tea pot cosy too though? I'll think about it.

@@andredhooge4268 Unfortunately not, which should have been disclosed before I purchased it. It is something that Toyota really should look at fixing.

Would much rather go for the base Baleno - same engine, same design but with cruise control, reverse radar and reverse camera and 7" touch screen - all for R225 000. Oh, and a 5 year warranty too!

Haven't driven one yet. I reckon the new Fronx (an SUV based on the Baleno) will be better on that kind of surface though.

I took delivery of an XS A/T this week. Happily paid the extra for the Toyota badge. The XR doesn't offer enough for all the extra money. Cruise control, reverse camera, yada yada. Nope.

I like this car for what you get for your money. I agree with you about which one you would buy and why. One thing I didn't get when I went to see this car recently is that as nice as the tail lights are the extra piece on the boot don't work. They only for show which I think is disappointing. Why extend them if they don't work all the way? Would have made a huge difference to it's light signature at the rear

I guess they just wanted to at least give it a bit of a fresh look at least. Personally I dont mind it.

There does seem to be room for a full size wheel in the boot well. So it is just a matter of coughing up for a wheel and tyre. I might do that with mine.

6.7 litres to the 100? Hmmm that seems a little high for this car. For anyone who has this car, have you ever managed to average under 6?
@Hannes_Oosthuizen

I'm sure you could get lower if you really try. But the point of my real-world test is that I just drove it normally.

@@Hannes_Oosthuizen Yes that makes sense thanks for giving a real life figure. I'm just so curious whether I would be able to get a lower figure with my normal driving habits. I'm strongly considering this as my first car. It checks every single box for me. And it's technically a Toyota. In the price range of 300k, I cannot see anything better brand new that is. I don't want to waste my time with second hand. Had one horrendous experience with that already.

If you drive with efficiency top of mind you are very likely to do better. Smooth on the throttle, maintain momentum by avoiding having to brake sharply all the time etc.

Seriously. The Mahindra XUV 300 SE is about R250000.00 and is incredible. Toyota is overpriced and every little thing costs extra.

i’m going to respectfully disagree that a Mihandra can be incredible. I would rather have no car than a Mihandra.
