I've always been a Taco guy and owned a 4Runner for a bit. Got a Pro-4X in January and I love it! I took it out for a spin in the trails and it really did just fine. Now, I don't do extreme stuff like in the video, so I think the Frontier has an edge over the Taco when it comes to smoothness, interior desing and overall bang for your buck. Yes, we know the Taco is reliable and the Frontier is brand new, yet I decided to get the "new" Nissan a chance. So far, so good!

Yea, so I am not real happy with my Taco. Oh and Toyota corp said no help.... So, pretty much one of the worst vehicles I have ever owned. Major bummer. I got it for the reliability and it sucks. Just received my 2022 Frontier Pro-4X Crew Cab and did some trails with it here in Utah. Definitely more worth the money after dealer fees are incorporated into the pricing. Toyota dealers want $20,000 on top of MSRP and Nissan wanted a standard markup. Far and away more worth it to get the Frontier. Now, a year from now if the market cools down and prices become regular again, Tacoma may be the clear winner. But as the market stands, get a Frontier plus a lift and STILL save $16,500 over a Tacoma. Both are great trucks, no doubt.

I like the video and comparisons, but the other point I want to add is that the TRD Pro is also a full 4 door truck, while the Nissan Frontier King Cab is only a 2 door. That also accounts for some of the large price differential between the two trucks. If you want a closer price point to the Frontier, and still a rugged, off-road truck, you can get the TRD Off-Road Access Cab for cheaper, and some of the Pro options are offered as upgrades to the Off-Road Model. I will say, for interior comfort, Toyota kind of lags behind competitors. The manual trans also helps avoid some of the jumpiness and awkward shifting of the automatic system.

Curious question/observation (honestly want to know) - Maybe online specs are wrong (from edmunds), but when you did this review you talked about the turning circle difference (frontier is 1.8 more than the tacoma). But in the tacoma vs gladiator mojave you didn't (Mojave is 4.2 more than the tacoma, and 2.6 more than the frontier). Also, in Ranger against Colorado, you didn't (ranger has 42 (0.2 less than fronter and 1.6 more than tacoma and 2.8 less than Mojave, colorado has 41.3 (less than ranger, 0.9 less than frontier, 0.7 more than tacoma, 3.5 less than Mojave, and 0.7 less than Ranger). Seems odd that you called it out with Frontier but not all the other comparisons even though some of the others are even a bigger difference. Also - would really like for you to start calling out the fact that the only truck in all these comparisons with Rear Climate is the Jeep, because I want all midsize trucks to have rear climate (like jeep does). @@anthem4333 it still is a concern according to The Car Care Nut. Let's not act like the auto tranny in the Tacoma is very pleasant, always hunting. Sluggish. I honestly believe both trucks are the most reliable in the segment. Obviously neither are perfect. Personally I would get the pro4x over the TRD pro because it's significantly cheaper in my country.

You could buy the trail edition, locking diff it has a 1 1/2 inch lift and way cheaper than the TRD, if cost is a issue, or a off road model too. The crawl control is noisy but, the new Tundra is a new system and quiet, the new Tacoma and 4Runner will be updated soon so I see why they would wait to upgrade that, not very cost efficient at the end of the model life. ,

Totally right, the Frontier because it has the better powertrain and in my opinion has a better interior and better looks, the frontier can do anything the tacoma does offroad just maybe with a little drama and it is like the better tacoma just not as good offroad in some situations but you can fix those little offroad issues

@@francislegayada1783 A 2-3" lift and some bigger tires for the Frontier solve all of it's problems too... that's maybe $3-4k total, if you put $3-4k into the Tacos powertrain it's only going to be pushing what the Frontier is stock, and you can't solve that jerky transmission either.

I'm doing a 3 inch lift on my 2022 Pro 4x (In Tactical Green Metallic) that I just picked up - seems the right height for me, was going to do 4 inches but then it wouldn't fit in my garage! Compared to the Taco's on Toyota dealers lots here with $10-15k market adjustments I'm in the Pro 4x (Which unfortunately I still had to pay a $5k above MSRP market adjustment) for almost $20k USD less than the Taco... that's a lot of upgrades.
