You flog the dog after she is back together and 'running' and you're in 'negative cash territory' out of a set of wheels and ... who knows eh? Does anybody want to make a bet on how long those two turbo units last? I heard they are 'rather pricy at best, and one needs the entire body removed from the chassis to change it? Modest? The 5.7 made 381 hp and 401lb-ft. The new setup makes 437 and 583lb-ft that's more torque and HP than any N/A truck engine especially the Ford 7.3 Godzilla V8 with 430hp and only 475 lb-ft. OVER Twice the displacement and still over 100lb-ft less torque. Not to mention that it has turbos from the factory so modifying it without voiding warranties are very easy. Turbo engines are very easy to get impressive hp bumps. Someone already proved a 56hp bump with the V6-TT I Force engine with a cold air intake and a tune. Not something we can get on our 5.7's without spending $7,000+ on a supercharger.

@bat__bat
Жыл бұрын
@@andrewsolis2988 well, I think you confused the term "perfect" with "invent". Anyway, I don't doubt many nationalities have also perfected the wastegate on a turbo. We're talking about American market trucks here. GM's application of a mechanical wastegate in their diesel trucks for the U.S. market beginning in 2000 was such a good application then that it is still in use today for 20 year old GM trucks and works quite well. I chose that as an example because it is relevant. Frankly, I don't see any German or Japanese light duty diesel trucks for the U.S market, much less ones using mechanical wastegates, so that's pretty irrelevant. My point was that Toyota overcomplicated the design and got screwed because of it. Why didn't they choose to manipulate a VGT with computer like every other light duty diesel truck automaker? Why choose to manipulate the wastegate instead? I drive a 2005 Toyota that uses computers/electronics heavily and it works fine. It's surprising that they'd have trouble getting the electronics right on a god damn wastegate.
@andrewsolis2988

@@bat__bat No diesel truck apps in the US, correct, but a turbo is a turbo and the applocation in general was already in use for about 30 years regarding the year model you are specifying. Variable geometric turbos are far from a perfect design. Look up "carbon deposit issues VGT" and you'll find lots of complaints and issues. Also the electric waste gate issue Toyota had was with the initial trucks that were built between Q3 of 2021 and 1st quarter 2022. That is a non issue now. Japanese have more attention to detail I heard in building the engines .but will see will American prove once again that we are number one in building I hope so and I had Toyota before I have ford so far not bad but I would like go back to toyota if they can prove to me they can build better then Ford again tundra was nice 2007 I had but 2018 had more power and better gas mileage on Ford not hard to see why not . Hope Toyota can prove me wrong to go back will see

This engine is in all their bigger cars and Lexus models. So they aren’t losing money on it if it was designed for just one car. The Supra uses an I6 model. It’s possible for the next Supra they could switch to this engine.

Just had to replace an engine block on a 2023 tundra with only 15k miles at work, we were told by the fts that thousands of these motors were built with "metal contamination". What's ironic is that Toyota likes to continuously emphasize "fix it right the first time" to all of us technicians when these things are rolling off the line ready to blow up lol how would you feel paying a mortgage for a brand new truck then hear a knock knock knock, guess who's there?? Cylinder 5 ready to take an unintended early exit... if this happens to you out of warranty, your looking at 30k in parts alone, another 100 hours labor. Seems a bit much for an already overpriced Toyota vehicle
