Best looking ID model so far I think, but definitely doesn't look like a £50k car.

Many thanks Vicky for the clear concise and balanced review. I doubt this car will be on my test drive list in part due to the over use of touch controls for basic functions. The lack of lumbar adjustment on the drivers seat would also be a big no. On the plus side the style is OK and from what we can see in the video the inside looks like a pleasant place to spend time for most without a creaky back. The Tetris tail like dance looks cool as you mention even if it has little practical function other than to tell you (and others) that this is your vehicle. If I was in the market today for an EV the Enyaq would be higher on my list even though it shares many things with this VW EV's.

Both ID3 and ID4 felt quite cheap for what you pay when I got in them. Looking at the video, I think the feel would be the same with the ID5.

Yep. I am going electric from a 2014 Audi A3, and the ID3 certainly feels like a downgrade. The Kia EV6 however ticked all the boxes and passed the girlfriend test.

Felt the same for me. Thing is that it is mostly to do with the game boy dashboard. I am now looking for an electric car and the id5 is actually not a bad value. Also the thing is huge so much room.

I've road tested numerous cars and they all had their faults. Except the ID5...it is the most comfortable, relaxing and easy car to drive. What really surprised me was the ride height. You sit up really high, its about the same height as a Sportage. I ordered one straight after the test drive. Dont knock it until you've tried it.

Thanks for another great review! Vicky, you're one of the very best. Looks like VW is listening, though it has a way to go. All EVs are getting better and better, but I'm still holding out for longer range (Given it's prudent to keep the battery between 20-80%, and given temp and terrain changes, even 350 miles is REALLY only 280 miles at best), and more charging infrastructure. Big applause to those who've put their hard-earned cash behind the charge to change! My e-bike serves my urban needs for now :)

Volkswagen’s next generation of electric cars will offer much better range with cars having around 450 miles+. The next generation starts from 2026 with the introduction of “Project Trinity”.

I enjoyed this , I am interested to know when the Chinese EV cars will flood the UK Market with the latest new Blade battery technology. It makes the current battery technology obsolete and inferior... This is a Golden opportunity and new wave era of new car manufacturers to enter the EV market ... No one will care if it's a Merc or BMW or Audi badge , what people care about is real world long rage target 400miles + and super fast charging ie 10 mins with zero battery degradation , that is what we are on the cusp of and the technology ...

I have been driving my id5 max full tec pack for 6 months now and is brilliant. Better comfort, better build and riding quality and more quiet than model x I had previously. DCC is great. I tested range with temp between -2 - 6 degree and with heat pump, no eco mode, no air con but auto air mode. I get average 2.4 miles/kwh, around 200 miles mixed motorway and city in UK. That is great consider it only has 77 kw battery. I get 3.5 - 4 miles/kwh, 260 miles mixture use in summer. Software is currently on 3.0 and has slow response but really doesn't bother me because I only probably spend 2% of my time use it and rest of the time driving. Full driving assist is similar to auto pilot on Tesla and works brilliantly, personally I feel safer in ID5 than model x when auto pilot mode is engaged. Not many ID5 max is around in the UK at the moment and hope my 6 months driving experience could contribute to the EV community.

I have test driven about 8 vehicles, EV's and hybrids. Once I tried the ID.5 it was perfect. I need comfort and a smooth ride. You sit really high it just drives so easy. When I returned the car to the dealership, I ordered one there and then. I went in with hesitancy, and preconceptions from the reviews. They are meaningless when you find a car that fits you perfectly. The infotainment system, meh...I'll get along with it just fine. Also, VW are actively updating the car software all the time.
