The Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Public Service award recognizes elected or appointed officials for their extraordinary advocacy, policy, and actions that provide support for people with disabilities. These supports contribute to the success of Alabama’s communities, its workforce, and the economy.
The 2023 Public Service Award goes to Alabama State Representatives Debbie Wood, Leigh Hulsey, Cynthia Almond, and Senator Arthur Orr.
Representative Wood was nominated for the award for her sponsorship of House Bill 122, which would go on to become known as “Exton’s Law.”
Representative Hulsey, who was nominated for her sponsorship of House Bill 356, also known as the Noah Cade Act, said she is honored to have been selected.
Representative Almond, who introduced House Bill 105, a companion bill to The Colby Act, said she was excited to have been a part of helping individuals with disabilities.
Senator Orr, who was nominated for his support of the Colby Act, said he was humbled by the award.
The Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities awards recognizes the contributions and successes of people with disabilities and those businesses that provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to achieve through competitive, integrated employment.
