The BC 90…, what’s your guys take vs the Nordica Soulrider and the Black Crow Captis? I know you guys like both those skis, would love to hear your feedback!
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin! Definitely, we both love the Soul Rider and Captis. A lot of similar characteristics in the BC 90, but with the HRZN Tech, I think it's fair to say it's looser than both of those skis. It don't think it has the precision or torsional stiffness of the Soul Rider, but that's not what most skiers look for in this category. Probably more like a Captis in its quickness and playfulness, but then you get the smeary benefit of HRZN.

I think I replied to the same question on another video? Anyways, I'm a big fan of both the Revolt 104 and ARV 106. Since you commented on the Bent video, I'd throw the 100 into the mix too. Not as much soft snow performance, but definitely fits your description. Bent would be the more responsive and most energetic, Revolt the surfiest in deep snow, ARV somewhat of a mix of both. Hope that helps!

Hello! Discovered your channel just recently and am getting a ton of information, thank you fellas! Question for you guys. I am looking to upgrade my skis I am currently riding Atomic Punx 5 (2019 175 cm). I am looking for something wider over waist maybe 100 area. It seems from your reviews there are a ton of skis in that area for all mountain/one ski quiver. I live in MI and most hills are groomers. That being said I like to play around a lot go through the trees, very little park, some jumps, not a grip and rip skier by any means. I plan on going out west more and might be coming to VT this year. Im 5’11” and weigh about 210. Im torn between several skis in this area. And every time I see a new review from you guys I question the ski I wanted to get. Im looking at the Atomic Bent Chetler 100, Blizzard Rustler 9 or 10, Atomic Maverick 100, Qst 98, Vokl Mantra, Nordica Enforcer 100, Blizzard Bonifide, Elan Ripstick. Im leaning toward the Bent Chetler from your review and others even without the steel it still carves groomers well but is versatile and playful for powder, trees, switch skiing. Let me know what you would recommend and what size you think I should be skiing. Thanks for all your great videos.
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I love my BC100 for sure. Great in bumps and trees, and still capable on the groomers. I think that and the QST 98 should be at the top of the list based on well-roundedness and versatility. I'd put Rustler up there as well. Ripstick is light and playful, but not great for freestyle. The others on your list are pretty stiff and high-performance, it sounds to me like you can narrow focus to QST and BC100. Have fun! SE

which ski is a better all mountain 90 or 100...
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live and what you get to ski. For someone who gets to ski a lot of soft snow, I'd say the 100 is better. If you're on the east or midwest, maybe the 90 would be better, but it also comes down to personal preference. I do expect we're going to see a lot of skiers on the east choosing the 90.

How does the 100 compare to the new enforcer 104 unlimited?
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Similar, but different at the same time. Enforcer 104 feels more snappy out of a turn, especially a carving turn. There's a lot of carbon in the 104 Unlimited, which is where a lot of that performance is coming from, but of course it comes along with a higher price tag. They're relatively similar in terms of maneuverability and overall feel in off-piste terrain and soft snow, although I'd say the 104 floats better and the 100 feels a little more agile when you point it down the fall line. The construction is probably the biggest difference, however.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I think it's the cap construction. I will admit I've had a similar reaction to some of their skis when I first see them, but they ski great and the way they build the cap construction, whether it looks cheap or not, does effectively improve durability, which is really nice on skis like these that are going to get bounced around a lot.

ATOMIC just keeps delivering. On the twin tips, if you’re not a switch skier is there a performance value? Nearly shooting me out of a perfectly mitigated high-angle carving turn, for example?
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Twin tips typically have a very energetic flex pattern and are relatively easy to ski, which I think can be a performance benefit for some skiers. Easier to load them up and access their energy. They're also a little easier to release the tail edge compared to a ski with a flat tail. On the other hand, if you're not skiing switch, there are fully directional skis that have similar characteristics, but might work better. The 90 and 100 are interesting skis because realistically they ARE directional shapes, they just also have twin tips.

This is big news. I'd be super tempted to nearly center mount the 90s (maybe 2 cm back from center) and go a little shorter (under 180 cm) for park/all-mountain on the east coast, and standard mount the 110s and go a little longer (over 180 cm) for powder days and trips out west, and make this a two ski quiver from a single ski model.

How is the Bent Chetler 100 (2022 or 2023) compared to the Salomon QST 98? It would help me a lot if you could comment on that :) And is the 2021/22 Bent Chetler 100 and the 2023 Bent Chetler 100 the same?
@patrion6028
2 жыл бұрын
Iirc the BC only changed in graphics, they never talked about structural changes. I own a pair of QST 98. They ski short, especially for a ski in that width, and you can lay some crazy carves on them. As they have a ton of rocker, i felt i really need to be on the spot and make the camber worker. If you're there, they bite and come around like probably no ski in that width range. The ton of rocker makes it easy to release the tail edge, they are playful anf from what can be seen, they're also really good in powder (i did not yet have the chance to take them into pow). They sure are a fun pair of skis, but looking at the numbers and my experience, i think the most part they compare to the BC is the width, and that's about it. The QST is a little heavier, skis way shorter, has almost 20% more rocker. I consider it's fair to say, even though they are in the same width range, they are totally different pairs of skis in terms of their performance, you could probably own both and they both would have their own niche. Maybe add a little info for what you want to ski them. Also curious about @Skiessentials.com opinion on that topic :) (especially as Jeff pointed me towards the QST in the BF live stream, haha :D )

@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Bent Chetler 100 has always been the same ski, just multiple graphics at this point. The QST is a looser ski, more surfy/smeary feel. The Bent Chetler is more responsive and more energetic, quicker too. It has much higher camber, which results in a kind of bouncy, playful feel. The QST is certainly playful, but in a different way. It's not as energetic, but loves to smear and slash turns. Both are a ton of fun, it's basically just a matter of matching the feel to your skiing style. I personally have a lot of fun skiing both, but they do feel a lot different to me.

HI Kevyhn! While not as strong of a groomer performer when pushed as the Maverick 88 or 95, it's a really good floater for its width. At 225 pounds, I'm a bit heavy for the 184, and my general feeling is that skier weight has a lot to do with the overall performance of the ski. That said, I've had an absolute blast on it every time I've skied it here at Stowe. It's as good of a tree and mogul ski as I've ever been on. SE

It's not as strong of a ski realistically. I wouldn't really recommend that unless it was to a very lightweight, relatively short adult. I would stick with at least the Bent 85 and really would strongly recommend bumping up to the 90 if you can justify the price.

Hi, Thank you for all the great reviews! I'm 179 cm (5´10-5´11) and 70 kg (155). I would maybe rank myself as an "athletic intermediate" (can do a lot but maybe not the best technique on the most difficult slopes). I want a playful all-mountain ski that is able to ski on-piste, in the trees, off-piste (not the deepest powder) , and maybe a little bit park but I prefer to do small tricks and jumps on the mountain. For some reason, I have always used carving on-piste skis but I don't like how they perform anywhere else than perfect groomers. I ski in Europe (Finland, Austria & Italy) and I would want one ski that manages almost everything (and I think this could be the one). Bent is going to feel more playful, more capable in the park too if that's a consideration. Rangers are more precise. More torsional stiffness, so better edge grip and a little more high speed performance. I think it's fair to say the Rangers are a little less forgiving too. Kinda stiff in the tail if you make a mistake, where the Bent Chetler is a highly forgiving ski.

We've been all over the place with where we mount them and where we test them. A lot of skiers on our staff prefer them on the factory line, which you're right is about 7.5 back from center. I (Jeff) have gone as far as +6 to the furthest forward line for better switch performance and balance when spinning. I think there's a happy medium in there for someone who wants some park performance but also all-mountain capabilities. If you'll be skiing them directional a lot, I think +4 would be a good spot. if you're going to be in the park a lot, you can certainly go further forward. Hope that helps, sorry for the delay getting back to you.

I would say they're kind of like a Rustler 10, but with more freestyle influence. They don't have the vibration damping or the edge grip of Enforcers. Definitely feel different than Ripsticks too... Ripsticks are much more directional, as Enforcers are too. As Bob said, the 100 is a fantastic utility ski. It does everything quite well. Not the best in any single category, it's the combination of characteristics and its well-rounded nature that makes it so fun.

Watched it. Sounds like they probably were a little edge high, or maybe just had a VERY fresh, sharp tune, which in a lot of ways, isn't what you want on the Bent 100. The tips and tails are also quite soft, but then camber height is high and the ski is very springy underfoot, so he might be feeling that too. Tips and tails won't engage (by design) unless you tell them too, but the mid-body of the ski will hook up more quickly thanks to that camber. Hope that helps clarify!

What’s the difference between theses and the mavericks other than the graphics?
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Construction and shape. The Mavericks have metal in their construction, or carbon. Bents (other than the 120) are just a wood core, so more of a simplistic build that results in a softer flex pattern. They also have more tail rocker and more of a twin tip shape than the Mavericks. Definitely some similarities between the Maverick 100 Ti and Bent 100, but plenty of differences too.

Can't believe they didn't do this earlier, especially the BC 110, seems like a 120 that I could use way more often than the 120 here in Colorado, and the BC 90 seems way more high performance park, all-mountain ski, with how many BC 100's I see in the park this just seems like a better ski for those riders.

I am eagerly waiting for "early" February when these coming stock and the review on these! Hopefully by president's day since will be making a trip out to Stowe that weekend. Watching Jeff ski switch in all the intros has me inspired! I am looking for a pair of fun skis to round out the quiver. Am focused only on inbounds, and looking to learn how to ski switch, do some park, and mix in some moguls (so would probably mount closer to center, but not fully center). Currently have a pair of Stockli SR 95 as my primary daily driver/all mountain ski in 166, and a Kastle MX 74 in 164 as a dedicated frontside carver which both have been great, but are more "serious" with the amount of titanal used. I’m 5’7” and 150 lbs, so in between the 166 and 175 for the BC90. Everything I have read about the existing BC100 is that it skis short, so not sure if the BC90 in 166 would be too short given it has the same R/C/R profile (although I have noticed that most of the park skiers in the Olympics utilize skis that are somewhere between their nose and forehead height) or if the 175 would be too long. Would, the BC100 in 172 be a better fit because of the length?

I saw the 22/23 model year listed online! But only in 184cm for the BC90, are they all sold out already?
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I don't think a 166 cm Bent 90 would be too short, no. That's only a few cm shorter than you, which is a perfectly reasonable length for a ski like this. They do ski a little short, but that's kind of the point. They'll be fun and quick and playful and more forgiving as you learn to ski switch. They're not sold out as much as they're just still being built and delivered. We expect to see them continue to trickle in throughout the remainder of the season, with our big shipments arriving in the spring. You should, at some point this season, be able to pick up a 166. Quick piece of advice for you... don't get discouraged. Learning to ski switch can be extremely frustrating, but there is an "Ah ha!" moment that you'll get to eventually. It takes some skiers longer than others, but anyone can get there. Start with staggering your feet a lot. Pick a shoulder that feels natural to look over. If you pick your left shoulder, your left foot should be about a foot-length BEHIND your right foot. By behind, I mean behind your back, further down the hill if you're actively skiing switch. This allows your hips to rotate, which allows your torso to rotate, which allows you to actually see where you're going without straining your neck. Have fun, don't get discouraged, stay safe!

I rode a pair of 2012 atomic theories for years and I loved how versatile they were. Trees, bumps, park, pow up to 5', they would carve when the snow was soft (though they didn't like to exit a deep carve) they were good at everything but didn't excel at anything in particular. Would the 100 be a comparable ski?

I’m guessing width. 85 obviously lower price that’s why I was thinking about them
@SkiEssentials
Жыл бұрын
HI Morgan! In addition to the narrower width, the 85 is also built with a less expensive wood/composite core versus the wider Bent skis. I don't think this is a big deal for an emerging skier, and for the price, the 85 is quite a good ski. I'd say that most skiers at your level and application would be better off on the 85 vs. the 90 anyway. Have fun! SE

Hey Mike! No, we didn't center mount anything in this video. The 110s are relatively close to center, but not true center, no. Any comparison to the Bent Jr? My girlfriend is 5’1” and ~ 100 lbs and a beginner. I was looking at the Bent 85 but wondered if it is similar construction to the Jr since that ski comes in a 140 and is $130 less. From what I could tell the Jr does not use a wood core.
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
It's not a bad idea, as both use Atomic's Densolite core, which is basically compressed wood particles. I suppose my concern would be longevity and a potential in hindering progression, but if you're looking to do it on a budget, that's not an awful idea. Make sure the binding screws from whatever binding you choose does not go through the thinner junior ski, especially if you're on an adult binding.

Just look for a ski with a tight turn radius
@src248
2 жыл бұрын
Low swing weight, forgiveness in the tip and tails, easy edge release. Basically, something like the BC100. I wouldn't consider turn radius to be super important, trees aren't conducive to cleanly carved turns. A race slalom ski is not going to be a better tree ski than a BC100
@bearclaw5115

@@src248 Learned that lesson only too well!
@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
I agree with Steven. Light swing weight, forgiving flex pattern, good rocker profile for edge release. BC 100 is a good example. A tight turn radius sometimes isn't what you want. Sometimes a ski with a longer turn radius will actually be better in the trees. A long radius in the tips and tails means the ski will feel looser and less catchy. Pair that with the right rocker profile and it's going to be incredibly quick in the trees. The Volkl Blaze 106 is a perfect example. That ski rips in the trees, but has very long radii in the tips and tails, by design.

@SkiEssentials
2 жыл бұрын
The K2 is stiffer and heavier, but not by a whole lot either way. It performs better in a carved turn on groomers, but that's about it's only big advantage. The BC90 is one of the best mogul and tree skis I've been on in quite some time. I'm 6/2 225, so I have no issues bending the 184, for better or worse. I can push through it pretty easily on the groomers at speed, but it's just so fun and enjoyable everywhere else. My only concern is that you won't love the stability of the Atomic at your size, so it's really more about your priority. Hope that helps! SE

Hi guys, just watched a load of your ski comparisons and reviews such great content 👏🏻⛷ - I am a decent intermediate/advance skier who has recently got back into sking after snowboarding for 12 years - mainly skiing a few trips a year in Austria and France, 60/40 on/off piste. I am 39yrs old, 185cm and 190lbs - thinking about either the Bent 90 or 100 or black crows camox. Which of these would you think best suits me and what length in the particular skis? Would the 175 in the Bent 90 be too short? Skied some 178 black crows last year and enjoyed them. Last question is the 2023 bent 100 and different to the 2022 model (apart from graphics)? Any help appreciated. 😀
@SkiEssentials

Both 100's are the same--only graphics. Between 90, 100, and Camox, the Camox has more strength and power, but that does come at the cost of quickness. The 90 is one of the most agile and fun skis I've been on, but the Camox has great energy and snap. If you're on trails even a bit more, I'd say Camox is a slightly better choice, but happiness all around with those three options.

@SkiEssentials

ARV's have the denser core, so they hold up better to a bit more aggressive skiing. This use of ash wood in the ARV's also make them more powerful and predictable in the park and pipe, so they end up being more versatile. I love the feel and strength of the ARV 96, and would likely take one of those over a Bent 100, and certainly I prefer the ARV 106 to the Bent 110, which is just a bit too flexible for my size.
