Went the same path. Started with a 12U cabinet and grew out of it in 3 months. Now I have a 42U Dell cabinet and love it. Like you, grew it with upgrades and such. You have a nice setup!

Dude what an awesome setup mine is similar and home labs will teach you real world things, I am doing systems and networks in an enterprise environment now, keep working at it, love this video and you have a new sub!

Appreciate it! I agree, the home lab is the best place to learn. IT is not my career so my knowledge in this space has come from tinkering in the home lab for years.

My switch is a used aruba S2500. It's a 48 port layer 3 managed switch with 4 10gb SFP Ports. Its way over kill for my needs but it was only 100.00 shipped. learning to configure it was a steep learning curve but the end result is I have 48 POE+ ports. I only have 3 servers in my rack now. one is a 4U 20 bay media server I built my self. The next one down is my Dell R720XD. right now the only service running on it is blue iris for my home security cameras. The third one isn't in the rack right now waiting on new parts. My thread ripper work station is also in my rack.

install some HEPA filters in the mess of the front door and back, see if you can reduce the dust during construction, lol. Good video, keep the content coming.

Thanks. It definitely needs a good deep clean. We have been finishing part of the basement where the rack lives so it has been getting weekly dustings and it’s still that dirty.

Nice video . Maybe you could also add some screens from proxmox , unraid and blue iris systems. Home labbing is a costly hobby 😂.

8:35 What case are you using for your unraid machine? I’m considering going to something rack mountable. Are there other cases you would recommend?

This is a Rosewill RSV-L4500. It’s not my favorite to be honest but it’s affordable and houses 15 hard drives with good air flow. If money isn’t a concern the best case by far is the new 45 Homelab HL 15. But Rosewill has a few different variants of the one from my video depending on your needs. I’d love a hot swap model with a backplane. This case requires you to wire up power and data via cables to each drive (aka no backplane)
