Excellent Work! A gem of a model, and highly skilled effort. I, too, had an '81 TRANS AM. Bought it new. It was light/sky blue, 5.5l engine, but not a t-top. In 40 years, I only saw two others with that colour. I kept it for 11 years, restoring it twice. I remember driving downtown in Victoria, B.C., windows down, radio blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd's ROCK OF AGES, stopping at a traffic light, and I noticed the ladies in the car next to me bobbing their heads to the beat! Fun times. Once it started costing me more money than providing me joy (fuel tank leaking and leaving a puddle everywhere I'd parked, pulled on the lever for turning on the headlights and the lever came out of the dash in my hand!, holes in the floor, holes in the trunk, etc., etc., etc.), it was time to sell. I do miss it. The next year was the K.I.T.T. version, which was cool, but not nearly as cool as the '79-81 body style. People would say to me: "it's the same car as the Z-28." No. It wasn't. It was a TRANS AM. It was beautiful. I bought the recently released Revell 1/8 scale model of the '79 Trans Am a few months ago. A bit scared to try it, but you've now motivated me to open the box, and start it. It's states it takes Level 5 skill to build. I don't where I stand, but I'm pretty sure it isn't level 5. Oh well, gotta try! Truly enjoyed seeing how yours came out and shines so beautifully. All the best, Dan.

Hi Dan, yeah I loved my 81 Turbo TA. I put a lot of work into it including removing the horrible turbo engine and put in a very healthy Pontiac 400. Made a huge difference. It was the Nascar Pace Car version with the Ricaro seats. What a car! Wish I still had it.

@TrekWorks yes its been a while. I'm still around. I still have one of Ralph's car boards that would of been nice in that TA. Just would of taken longer to do and I know you are busy. Looking forward to some of your builds coming up soon.

A fellow Firebird fan and former owner. How cool is that! I am living proof those F Bodies bend easy. My next to last one, 75 Formula 400 literally folded in half when some dumb woman rear ended me on south 45 in Houston. Everybody walked away but the car had a bump in the middle like a camel. If I had 100k, I would own one of the modified Cameros those guys are building. Had to settle for a 2017 LT.

Thank you for all the tips on this kit, I'm building it now... after a very long hiatus from building models. I remember never liking MPC kits way back then! I guess I'm gonna have to mock the doors and hood up before paint. Thanks again!

Very nice, Boyd!! Love that 2k clear on her. Maybe its just the camera, or my old eyes, but in the right light as she was turning around that color almost had a root beer barre look to it.

The door bushings were the first to go in the driver side door on an F-body. Made them hundred pound doors droop in a heartbeat. Did you put the rust spots around the bottom of the back window in? Now that would make it FULLY authentic.

The Bandit Trans Ams were all special editions with extra pin striping details. Maybe somebody makes the decals for those. Would be hard to paint them on.

The 403 was a good engine. I remember back in the day GM getting sued because customers found out they had bought cars with different make engines installed from the factory.
