I prefer the breaks and turning. I've done the math. Most goosenecks are rated 25000 GVWR to avoid the 11% federal tax. With average weights that means you likely won't ever find a trailer capable of towing over 20k without going to air breaks and paying that tax. 5000 payload is plenty enough to keep within the majority of trailers restrictions while applying 15% of weight to the truck. Also I'll be able to rerate my 2023 F450 Limited after the first year and solve any issues. It takes me two days to put half the mileage you put on your 350 in your first month. I will likely be out of warranty very quickly and will be able to rerate my truck. Only reason payload is 5000 is so non CDL drivers can drive it out of the lot. While I've never re-rated a derated truck alot of people argue the payload is just as capable as the 350. Even if I halve that and get 6000 payload out of it that is plenty enough to haul 25000 pounds comfortably. I've had people break check me while I was in a 2021 F350 dually when it's payload in the bed was maxed out with work rolls from a service center in PA. Its breaking capabilities left alot to be desired.. I also strongly prefer having the turning radius. Getting a 350 dually out of a packed parking lot is a nightmare in comparison to a 450. These are just my thoughts for my current situation. I'll miss the payload out of the gate. In respect to the high output which comes standard in the Limited I ordered my only concern is longevity and service related headaches once the vehicle hits around 200k+ miles.

I wonder if some of the extra 900 lbs in the F450 is in that wider track front axle? The tiny turning radius trick that thing does with that axle is amazing. Unfortunately, with those 19.5" rims, you can only fit commercial-grade tires on it. You'd have to switch out the wheels entirely to put anything else on it. I know they're made for extremely heavy work loads, but if you're not using the truck for that regularly, I hear they ride like rocks. Really enjoyed the ride along in your F350. Seems really quiet and smooth.
@ArmyProperty

Yup. It would be great if Ford started offering the wide front axle as an option in the dually F-350. They could charge whatever they wanted, and people would buy it. We drove an F-450 once and it turned as tight as a Corolla.

Loving your reviews. As I was looking at the power boost and stumbled on your page. As far as the high output, I would mention that while the horse power is only 25 more, the torque increases from 1050 to 1200. So that is significant. Just thought I’d mention. This is one reason I am looking at the HO. Hate that your feedback is that the exhaust brake is not very effective.
@ArmyProperty
5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, the high-output does have a healthy bump in terms of torque, which can really help when getting a bigger trailer (more than 20K) up a steep incline. But most people are never gonna have a need for it. And people who tow those kinds of weights can just go with a shorter final drive (larger number) to make up for the "lack" of torque in the standard-output. In our opinion it's an exercise on Ford's part, in seeing just how much of our money they can take. And yes, we're sorry to have to report that the exhaust brake is substandard, compared to the Ram and also to our Duramax that's more than a decade old!!

Good video. I bought the high output not for the extra 25hp but for the water cooled turbo. Also because it doesn’t regen by injecting fuel into cylinder 8 anymore it directly injects fuel into the exhaust pipe after turbo. Not sure if standard output has that 9th injector but I knew the HO did so I wanted it to stop that turbo from dealing with 1250 degree temps during regens. Also, EGR can now be used at the same time as regens now, instead of blocking it off like the 22 and before trucks. Can you look under and see if your standard output also now has the direct fuel injection like my HO does? It might have been EPA making them do that on all of them now for the 23 year clampdown.
@ArmyProperty
Жыл бұрын
That's super interesting. We just sort of assumed every version of the 6.7 PowerStroke had the 9th injector by now. Glad to know the H.O. has it. The 6.6 Duramax had it from 2011 onward, and it eliminated all those issues -- especially the problem of washing oil off the cylinder walls. We'll take a look and see if we can figure it out. Unfortunately, as stated, there's so much ducting and hoses and other crap piled on top of the engine, that it's really hard to see much of anything!! And yes must be nice to have a water-cooled turbo! We just felt like the "$2,500 for 25hp" proposition was a little obscene. Ford's pricing policy is like a vacuum cleaner that's sucking money out of your pockets these days.
