Seeing Gor and Lalayan hanging out in the back room, together as friends and not competitors, was quite awesome to see. 2 weightlifting legends!

The two of them are so close in their lift totals, it’s hard to choose who will get silver at Paris, assuming Lasha is not dethroned. Conceivably Ali Davoudi could pull it up a notch and catch one of the two having an off day but I don’t see that happening or even Simon Martirosian being selected over Varzadat for team Armenia.

@@johndoherty-hh2ck Lasha dethroned? Highly unlikely! And why should Armenia choose Simon over Varazdat? He never even equalled him!

Simon’s total is only 12 kg less than Varzadat’s stranger things have happened. Plus there’s always the possibility of injuries.

it would be great if they would show the scoreboard between lifters so we could see who placed where!

USA Caine Wilkes has the widest grip for the jerk of anybody I’ve ever seen, literally an inch or two from the collars. Take a look at his third attempt with 218 though. After he racks it and just about stands up, the bar slips from his fingertips and lands in the crook of his left elbow a very dangerous position. Instead of dumping it immediately he attempts to maneuver it back to his shoulders. Now I know from my competitive days we often keep humping at it till the lift (or us) is dead and buried but this was way over the top, he didn’t stop trying till the buzzer sounded. Big huevos with a touch of crazy thrown in there.
