It just occurred to me that tomorrow is summer! The sun has been out for a good part of the day these past few days. The plants out in the front yard will definitely enjoy the sun.
In this update, more proof of concept of a steady supply of produce through succession planting and plants that continue to produce after the initial harvest (cut and come again.)
Growing broccoli year-round is demonstrative. For most growers, I recommend following conventional guides of planting them for the cool season.
Additional notes:
Last year was an especially tough year for tomatoes because the warmer weather gave rise to tomato bugs (scientific name, Engytatus modestus.) This year is a make up for last year. The cooler weather kept these buggers at bay for an extended period of time--enabling the tomato plants to grow unabated.
Last year I discovered that it was not wise to grow fresh eating pole beans on the pozole corn plants. The plants grew over 10 feet tall. The climbing beans became difficult to reach. This year we got wise and are growing dried beans there instead. The extra height will give these bean plants more vertical space to work.
