I’d be really curious what this mod does to the longevity of the engine. It wasn’t engineered for the increased pressure, heat, etc. I have the same vehicle as my daily driver and the reason I bought it was that the stock programming in the available drive modes gives me the economy when I want it on the highway (I pull 47mpg on long hauls), yet the torque off the line in sport mode when I want it, all stock. If you start modding it this way is it worth the potential loss in longevity of the engine that pushing it past its original design specs causes? Buy the GT and put snow tires on it if you want the added traction (or whatever motivated the desire for an AWD GT-Line). I got the FWD option (which is 300lbs. lighter) and put Blizzak WS-90s on my GT-Line in the winter and there was nothing I wasn’t able to drive through seamlessly. The extra weight of the AWD hardware isn’t worth the loss in fuel economy and pick up off the line.
@zstampe
Жыл бұрын
Lots of guys running the JB4 for many many miles. I could’ve gone Gt but I’m not a huge fan of the DCT in them. You say it wasn’t designed for the extra pressure, but it is basically the same engine as the forte GT which has higher boost than our cars. I’m running a pretty conservative map and don’t race the car either. But you also make good points. Thanks for the comments.
@el34glo59
Жыл бұрын
47 mpg? Jesus that good. You think i should pass over the AWD? I live in jersey. Thanks
@TastySurrealBowl
Жыл бұрын
@@el34glo59 It really comes down to personal preference, but I live in Michigan and in rural areas winters can get really hairy in the winter, so whether I’ve owned AWD or FWD I always run Blizzak WS-90 snow tires in the winter. Even AWD with all-season tires will never perform as well as good snow tires on either drivetrain in bad winter weather. When the roads get bad I drive conservatively to minimize issues, but when the roads are grippable (the vast majority of the time) I prefer the lighter weight and less hardware to move down the road that the FWD option offers (and the big MPG gains when going long distances on fairly flat terrain highways). Don’t forget possible long term (after warranty) maintenance expense for the AWD hardware (rear differential) if you plan to keep it long term. Keep in mind that the 47pmg only happens when I’m on a long stretch of highway that doesn’t involve a lot of hill climbing. When I’m driving around the city (traffic) and in mixed driving, I’m averaging about 37mpg. I just met someone the other day who commutes on the highway daily and he said (unsolicited) he is averaging 47mpg daily in his FWD GT-Line, so I’m happy with how the FWD has worked out going into my 11th month with it (after 4 full seasons of driving in every condition). The FWD with snow tires setup did excellent in bad winter weather for me, but it comes down to your specific priorities. Good luck - either way you’ll love the K5 GT-Line! A lot of features for the price.
