I have one. The brakes are great and responsive. The 6 speed transmission is a feature, not a bug. More reliable. Smooth ride with an excellent interior. 86 eMPG optimally, I’m averaging 68 eMPG over 4k miles. I recently executed an emergency maneuver on a dark and rainy freeway offramp when the pickup in front of me decide to slow down to a crawl for no good reason. Swerved fast around it and the Kia stuck it like an Olympic gymnast. Super impressed. Love this ride. 😃

Why no mention of the plug-in orientation itself? How often would you need to plug-in? For how long? What is the average at home plug-in device cost? Any options on the rims (they are so blah)?

This was a good review overall. However, I believe that you short changed amenities in the back seat. The back seat has HVAC vents, 2 chargers, and handy clips to hold grocery bags and the front seat headrest has hooks in the back to hold a backpack or small gym bag.

Re the brakes feeling soft or like "pressing on a pillow". It's a HYBRID, you are supposed to use the paddle shifters to change down gears, and use more regenerative braking to slow down the vehicle, RECHARGE THE Battery and give you better fuel economy.
@volkhen0

I have this car and like on Toyota hybrids the energy goes to battery when you use brake pedal. It’s up to 35kW of regenerative breaking. If your press harder and exceed that braking power then classic brakes join and turn kinetic energy into heat on the pads.

Great Review. I like this Sportage PHEV & HEV. The dealers are still trying to fleece buyers for these. I will keep waiting. Also, I hope Kia will throw in prepaid maintenance like Hyundai, Toyota, and even Honda.

Might be a long wait. Chip shortage and supply chain issues will not normalize any time soon. Inflation would also take a good couple of years to cool down.

I have had my 23 Kia Sportage phev xline prestige awd for 3 months now and love it. I had a 2011 Kia Sorento that I bought new and loved it. There are just a couple of little things that I think are odd. Like No PHEV badage any idea why Kis chose to not badge it? I wouldn't mind people know that I am helping as much as I can with green gases. And when you put it in reverse it beeps to warn you that you are close to the curb in front of you even though you are going backwards and when switch from the fan to the media if you are not fast enough to select it goes back the the fan setting???? WHY WHY! WHY! But other then that I love it. Mine is the Jungle Green color and for how far I drive per day I have hardly used any gas. Except when I have it in Sport which very zippy and fun.

Can someone share the noise inside the car while driving, especially on the highway? I have owned an RAV4 for 10 years, everything is great, but the noise inside the car while driving on the highway is a bit crazy, making my upgrade of the stereo system pointless.

Not for "no reason". You get about 17% more horsepower and better gas mileage. But price tag is higher.

You can run it as a regular hybrid if you want and not plug it in. If you plug it in every evening at home, it’s full by morning and you rarely use gas.

These cars are too expensive for what you get. If the EV range was 100 miles, and horsepower was+300 hp, and they had better suspension it would be great. Worth $25-$30K usd, not more. Next gen probably after 2025 models it will be valuable. After driving this for almost a week in various conditions it felt like a boat. Let see if the prices drop 20%.
@rylans.5365

You’re not understanding the use and implications of a PHEV. No PHEV is getting 100 miles of pure EV range, simply due to the dual powertrain. The point is to utilize the EV range whenever possible in the city or in town, then hybrid for longer journeys, because it is more efficient to do so. People who want full EV’s will do that, but this is for people who want something just in the middle. The dual powertrain adds on a hefty premium. The price range you mentioned is what the hybrid averages. Want the ability to plug in? Pay more. It’s how life works.!
@emreon3160
Жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand. Firstly it is economies of scale and markets that define costs, so paying more won't make a difference all the time. So via innovation costs are dropping fast, Tesla today, and Ford in the 1910-1920s case in point. @@rylans.5365

You seem to have a fair approach covering strong and weak points, which I appreciate. But as in the comments below, there are items you could have covered but didn't. I have a Tesla Y, which I love to drive. But I live in one of the "4 corner" states and there is a lot of territory uncovered by Tesla superchargers. I'm looking at Sportage hybrid or PHEV for a road trip car. Thanks for the review.
