We ride nasty rocks and slick single track all day long here in Arizona. We took a guy out the other day from PNW who “cuts his teeth on single track for the last 20 years”, we chewed him up and spit him out 2 miles into the ride where he turned around and went back. It’s been raining all week here and I Just rolled 15 hrs on the new bike today. I can’t tell the difference anymore from my old bike. The thing flat out rips. Drop the psi to the 120’s (dealer recommended) open some clickers and break it in. 90% of us can’t tell the difference and our riding is so poor anyways it won’t matter. The bike is unbelievable. KZitem has everyone bent out of shape that it’s too stiff. I was in the same boat. My suspension tuner said “ride the damn thing, it’s an awesome bike”. The notion that it is “border line dangerous on the trail” is a bit over the top. It breaks in and is a blast. I wouldn’t go back to my 20’ or 22’ xc if someone gave it to me. I ride with a guy that has $6k Ohlin suspension in his brand new Beta and still out ride him in the rough slow single track. Ride the bloody bike and enjoy it.

It will never be like a 22? A bit much over the top. 99.8% of us can’t tell the difference in suspension when we throw our leg over a bike. I’m coming off a 2020 and 2022 XC. Just rode my new 23 today (10hrs) on some nasty rocky wet Arizona single track that we always ride and I feel no different at the end of the day. Huge smile on my face and dirt in my teeth. Sure maybe it pogos a tiny bit more than my old bike in the rocks but I keep up just the same as the fast guys I normally ride with if not faster. Ride your bike and get better at riding will make more of a difference than $6k in suspension mods. I just talked to one of our local ktm suspension guys and he said, “just ride the damn thing it’s a great bike”. This is a guy that tunes and sells high end suspension lol. I think KZitem has gotten into too many peoples heads and causing them to bitch about the stiffness when if you blind folded them they wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Over 70% don’t race just like you said… then who cares. It’s an unbelievable bike everyone and It pulls much harder than my old bikes. I absolutely love it. Pull the trigger and ride the thing.

Hello: The piston is the same part number as the TPi models, so I don't see an issue there. One guy posted an ugly picture of an exploded top end. He hasn't given any details so I wonder if it inhaled dirt, if he forgot to premix the fuel, if he was revving it hard in 6th gear or one of many other operator caused issues. I don't see a problem but I'm sure the internet will make a mountain out of a mole hill. Most guys are reporting the fuel tank drains completely but a few have posted the opposite. Hey Jeff, Got a 2023 300 XC, and attempted to grease the linkages and swingarm bearings. Tried to remove the forward dogbone yoke bolt, and it hits the rear brake ass'y. So I tried to remove the rear brake pedal. Removed the nut on the inside, and there's not enough clearance to get it off the bolt and remove it. The bolt appears to be press-fit into the frame - didn't attempt to drive it out. What's the trick to getting the pedal removed to get the dog bone bolt out?? Thanks in advance.

I’ve had my brake pedal pivot bolt out several times. Sounds like yours needs a little persuasion. You need to get more aggressive with it and it should pop loose.

You were saying the throttle is very snappy and not for people with poor throttle control…. My question is, how does it compare to the kx450? Especially the first 1/4 turn. I personally have trouble with sticking tight turns with ruts and I get a nice arm pump on my right arm.

I note a couple of things, perhaps something that’s been normal for a while, but different: rear brake lever is forward of the clutch cover more so than previous generations, maybe it has been this way since the fuelies came out. Also noted the countershaft sprocket is held on by a bolt instead of a clip. Again, maybe both occurred on earlier models and I just didn’t notice since I don’t own anything new nor have I worked on them. Just an observation.

Great Vid! Can you tell me what front light can I install for a 22 SX-F 450, Thank you an advance.
Jeff, as always, great videos! Do you have inside info or insight into the '24 XC W Model? Specifically, will it have this TBI motor, and will they still be Oil Injected???
@slaverace1

Unfortunately my crystal ball is on the fritz again. My guess is the `24 W will have a stiffer frame and the new engine without oil injection.

I'm 54 and just went back to 2T. I went 23' XCW and that took me minute to get used to. I had only been riding 850 sleds since my late 20's. After the hiatus I didn't have much confidence in my advanced age ability and chose Honda CRF 250F. Well that took about a week. Had just dropped 30k on a new sled and trailer so had to muscle through with her for two seasons. Was good I spose just to fully get my shit together. Was gonna grab a XCF-W but they're hard to find in western Maine. While I was looking I read all the XCW reviews and feedback about being the ultimate lugger single track trail weapon so pulled the trigger on my XCW. Freakin love it. A little salty that of course KTM went to TBI in 24'. Between that and Jeff blowing up his new 24' I'm kinda pissed. Oh well I'll wait a couple years. I suffer through it 🤙

For rocky nasty Colorado trails do you ever run a trials tire? Older guys seem to swear by them so I thought I would ask.
@slaverace1
Жыл бұрын
Before hybrid knobbies with gummy compounds were available, I used trials tires for a couple years. Upside is they climb extremely well but there is WAY too much downside, poor braking, the sidewalls cut easily and over 10mph the bike wiggles and wobbles. Technology has surpassed the trials tire for trail use.

I was dead set on this model but instead got the 23 xcf-w 450. Have some buyers remorse havnt had a bike in many years and really wanted the xc model but mainly planning if riding trails and single track with occasional moto. This bike was same price as the w and the w came with way more options. Hope I made the right choice. For how much these bikes are they didn't let me ride before I bought it.
@slaverace1

Hello: Congrats on the new scooter. It will do what you want except the moto. The 300XC is a better choice but only if you are willing to spend some $$$$ on the suspension and add a bunch of goodies. If dealers let guys test ride dirt bikes they would have a bunch of looped out/damaged bikes and hurt customers. Yes, they are expensive but what isn't and it is still cheap fun and keeps your head on straight, aka throttle therapy.

@Slavens Racing can the xcw ride moto with a few suspension mods? When I say moto I mean just going to the track once or twice in the summer. Not gonna be sending it over 100ft jumps just want to be able to ride out there for fun. Just Seems like the xc is is lacking in every way for a woods bike and it even would need suspension work and the w comes with everything right out of the box. Thanks for your videos great job

Hey Jeff, it looks like you have a fan on that bike! We were riding last weekend and pushed hard enough to overheat the bike. I have run Trail Tech and Tusk fans in the past and was hoping to get another for this bike. I have looked both on Rocky Mountain and Trail Tech's websites and couldn't find anything for the 23 xc. Good stuff. Thank you for putting the comments in context at the beginning! What do you think about the 6500 kit WP offers?
@slaverace1
Жыл бұрын
Brian: The 6500 kit is a quality product but the set-up is aimed at motocross. It can be re-valved and set up for off-road use, but where do you find a tuner that has done R&D for off-road on 6500s and has also sorted them for the new chassis? I don't think that person is out there yet. I prefer the MX Tech Raven cartridge inserts that come with springs and are tuned for your intended use. They also have more advanced technology, a better anti-bottoming system, better customer support and are made in the U.S.A. 6500s are $1420 with springs, Ravens are $1500 with springs and custom tuning.

At least Alex didn't destroy the rear fender when he looped out. I can live with the scratch on the front fender and the dent to the pipe. If he dented it in the right place he might have de-tuned the bike a bit so he won't loop out a second time.

We ride rocks and tight slick single track all day long here in Arizona. It’s been raining all week and today I Just rolled 15 hrs on the new bike. The notion that it is “border line dangerous on the trail”- Jeff is a bit over the top. It breaks in and is a blast. I wouldn’t go back to my 20’ or 22’ xc if someone gave it to me. I ride with a guy that has 6k Ohlin suspension in his brand new Beta and still out ride him in the rough slow single track. Ride the bloody bike and enjoy it.
