As a real old timer, I see trombones, silly drag flag performers, and the huge amount of additional on-side instrumentation as a distraction of the primary purpose of a B&D corp. You might as well add elephants and clown cars. But don't expect real oldtimers to take this BS seriously.

I am encouraged by this. Madison is much better than previous years. I am from the older generation who spend when we go to shows...the last one me and my wife attended, we spent $2300 in the city the show was in. If the younger generation works on getting their compatriots to enjoy the electronics and the massive amount of equipment they haul onto the field, the activity will happily survive. Keep it up!

Everyone does, but that’s how it goes. Everything can’t be great forever. and for the Madison scouts they moved past their prime since the 90s. From a audience standpoint you can say that the Madison scouts have lost in touch with what they were known for. But an important fact is the top corps today had to change visuals and music to be more competitive. No matter what these people on the field are the godam Madison scouts. MYNWA

The battery stayed in the back field almost the entire show, the guard needs to be much cleaner to make finals this year, the same goes for the brass, lots of tuning, timing, and intonation issues, especially in the trumpet and trombone solos. I can’t tell the marching style anymore, I don’t see championship level marching yet, finals are coming soon. The “new” Madison Scouts have to make their own “mojo”, they can no longer live off the reputation of the past, that was a different corps, different vibe, different “ mojo” as I like to call it. The famous Madison Scouts “blast the mustard off your hot dog in the nose bleed seats” sound and volume (see 1988 finals), is just not there yet. I’m looking forward to seeing Madison find it’s footing again and rise back to prominence with a new vibe and their own style, and of course their own “Mojo”.

This ahow is just ok, nothing special or has anything that stands out, it's just another average corp show, as of 07/23 they rank 17th in World Class, with a score of 77.175. They haven't had a great show since 2017's Last Man Standing which was the last year they placed in the top 12. Nothing against the corp itself but if we're going to be honest either going co-ed was a wrong move or the leadership i.e. musical director / show designer etc etc needs to be changed from top to bottom. With 3wks left until championship do you see them in the to 12?

@@sethsimerly4392 What makes sense is the fact that ever since they’ve gone coed they haven’t they placed above 15th because their last few shows have been as exciting as watching paint dry. Blue Coats, Mandarins and the Troopers have personality and that something about them that makes them stand out. The Cavaliers are the last remaining all male corp, but outside of being the last remaining all male corp they have shows with elements that make them stand out. Corps have to change with the times. And because of certain judging decisions show designers have changed the way they make shows today since the 90s. Just because you are upset with this show doesn’t mean you can act childish to all the other people that enjoy this show. It’s also and insult to say to the people that choose to march here, who are of which spending thousands. If you don’t have anything interesting arguments or criticisms to say then kindly shut up.

Of course. My question is just how this nonsense came into acceptance and, therefore, into being incorporated into performance. Yep. This is woke BS ran awoke which has turned the Madison Scout D&B into a quagmire POS- just look at at the ridiculous off-shoots. All this organization needed was someone acting sexually inappropriately (hey, hard to break it to ya, its happened half a century ago) and the woke masters took over because everyone ran scared. No guts to confront the political BS. Now we listen to inferior training and lousy performances just because they are PS. LMFAO, except I remember when being a Madison Scout D&B Corp when I could hold my head up high proudly.

Not impressed at all. But on a brighter note, they have the standing poop squat down. And there’s even a ridiculously awful trombone feature. This is one band that would benefit from the return of G bugles. With these concert band instruments I’m hearing some very serious tuning and intonation issues. Lastly, the feminization of this once great all-male corps is now complete, and what a damned shame that is, a damned shame indeed. Might as well rename it to the Capitolaires.
@gregarious119

It seems like there’s this like unspoken design checklist now. Gotta include token trombone lick even if it doesn’t add anything musically or fit. Gotta have double and triple tonguing added to the arrangement, even if our performers can barely make it work. Lots of squatting and stanky leg rhythm. The activity is fundamentally broken and no judges seem to have the cajones to bring it back to what it was. Rewarding all the wrong things nowadays.

I woke up this morning with Malaguena in my head for some reason and came to KZitem to listen to some Vintage Scouts to scratch whatever itch was in my brain. Great times! After watching it this video was next in the suggested queue so I made the ill-advised choice to click on it. Ugh ..now I know how my sister felt back in the day when she marched Caps and why she eventually moved on and up to that Star Band.
