I drove a Grecale Trofeo last night and was extremely impressed. I drive a 2023 Macan S with every performance option and the Grecale feels faster (although the real-world 0-60 is almost identical.) the Grecale feels more special than my Macan. It oozes charm and character, but I still think my Macan handles just a tiny bit better. It definitely steers better - although the Trofeo’s steering is wonderfully accurate, it is completely devoid of any feedback, to which my Macan offers a good amount of feedback. The 21 speaker Sonus Fabre stereo was amazing, it looks amazing and it performs better than anyone was expecting. It’s just too expensive. The one I drove was $117k and the dealer is taking $10-$12k off all Grecales they have on the lot. If the Trofeo was $90k, I’d probably buy it over the Macan. But it’s not, it’s just too expensive for what it is, despite being an exceptional performance crossover.

Much better materials you say, as if you haven’t seen the base trims! And to answer you with why they don’t offer a spare tire; is the same reason every other luxury brand doesn’t either. Most luxury brands give their cars run flat tires; which is both good and bad at the same time. Brands that give their vehicles run flats, won’t allow you to change your tires to normal tires at the dealership. Another disadvantage would be the fact the tires can be extremely expensive to replace, therefore brands won’t give you a spare. The benefit being once you pop a tire, they can still run another 50 miles before going completely flat!

Hello doug, no the V6 is not borrowed from the mc20, the Grecale is based on the stelvio quadrifoglio platform, so the trofeo it's basically a stelvio quadrifoglio. Same power level, same engine. If you take a look at the engine on the stelvio qv is exactly the same as the Grecale one, except for the badging.
@megachonk9440
11 ай бұрын
The V6 in the Stelvio is the 2,891 CC 690T engine derived from the Ferrari/Maserati F154 V8. The V6 in the Grecale Trofeo is the 2,992 CC Nettuno engine that was developed for the MC20. The Nettuno is almost certainly derived from the 690T (or a separate V6 fork of the F154), because there are a lot of similarities, but Maserati insists it's an all-new in-house Maserati engine design. In any case, they're probably related, but they definitely aren't the same engine, and unlike what you claimed, they aren't rated at the same power. Again, it's similar, but similar is not "the same thing". The 2.0L Multiair turbo is the same engine in both the Stelvio and Grecale, though. As for the platform, yes, it is based on the same Giorgio architecture as the Stelvio, but so is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Maserati GranTurismo (which also uses the 3.0L Nettuno V6, which means this same engine is used in 3 models with 4 different tunes all making different levels of power). So on this same platform are 3 different SUVs (4 if you consider the Grand Cherokee L a separate model), a sedan, and a grand touring coupe, all of which are different vehicles with different target markets and having different dimension (including wheelbase). Here's some pointless trivia. The Stelvio is marketed as a mid-sized SUV. The Grecale is marketed as a compact SUV. The Grecale is, in fact, larger in all dimensions as well as the heavier of the two vehicles. Go figure.

Doug, when talking price we need you to get away from 'starting at' since we all know certain brands have options that can add 50% to the 'starting at' price... aka a Macan GTS gets over 100k without breaking a sweat, and easily to 110+ while leaving plenty on the table for options.

I love the wristband key. Is this available as an aftermarket item for other cars?
@yvanahernandez
11 ай бұрын
Just a comment on the wristband key. It is just to open/unlock the car and the battery can' t be replaced to maintain the active lifestyle (waterproof) capability. In order to make it work, you need to set the configuration of the car to be automatically locked once the key is away from the car, it literally works like that, walk 3ft (1 mtr) away and the car will lock, if you have the wristband key, will unlock once you get close enough. So, aftermarket with this functionality, hard to tell, but perhaps they make it so it locks and unlocks from the wristband, now... Wouldn't that be considered "hacking" if is aftermarket? 🙂.

We need to stop saying "pretty good interior" on these when it is now class-leading. There's no other SUV this size with a comparable interior quality and design, and it also has the backseat space and amenities of a midsize SUV instead of a compact, which again from a use perspective means it really should compete more with the Cayenne and X5 than the Macan and X3. Essentially, as Doug said, it now *is* the best in its segment, and consequently has the price to match. Just pick up one at the end of a 3 year corporate lease for $60-70K from a certified Maserati dealer and get a 5 year warranty without the inflated asking price.

Why is the MC20’s twin turbo Nettuno V6 detuned for use in the Grecale Trofeo? I believe one reason was so it would be better suited to a car like the Grecale, given the MC20’s higher-revving nature and peakier power and torque curves wouldn’t exactly have been the best fit for a car like this.

Do you have to call a locksmith to have them break into the vehicle so that you can access the battery?
