I don't know if you consider Delicious Monters and Tender Beasts as a standalone duology, but the titles look so good together. You could call it "Hungry Horror"!!

They’re standalones but they definitely have that feeling of a pair and they’re in the same universe. I like hungry horror! That’s so good haha

This is a wonderful mid-year update! I put TENDER BEASTS in my pre-order cart and will place my order in the next month or so. I loved DELICIOUS MONSTERS when I read it. I’m excited for your horror trio, adult book, and dark academia YA! They all sound like books I would read. 😍 It’s interesting to hear you talk about romance plots and subplots in your novels, too. I’m working on the second draft of my PhD dissertation novel adapted from my supernatural TV drama pilot (I graduate at the end of this month, but as you know, the novel will still need many more drafts) and I was telling a friend who beta read a partial draft how weird it is that this novel has no romance plots or subplots! Very unusual for me. I like a bit of romance with my fantasy/horror/whatever other genre fiction. Just a weird observation! 🥰

Thank you so much!! And that’s interesting! Sometimes I feel like even when you like romance it just might not be the thing for the particular book you’re working on. But also what you end up writing vs what you end up reading can be so different sometimes too

@@LiselleSambury If for some crazy reason they don't, I still think you're EXTREMELY talented to levels I think not all writers can be. You can write Middle Grade, Short Stories, YA AND Adult. You can do IP and your own ideas... I'd never be able to do that and I don't mean that to put myself down or bash my own abilities, just that I think you're a great example of a talented, capable writer. I don't think it's going to be an issue of if you can write it and make it good - you can - it's just if then publishers feel they can market it in the current market.

How can we get a ARC

You’d have to reach out to my publisher. I have links on my website for who to contact. You can also sign up for a NetGalley account to request eARCs. Though Tender Beasts isn’t yet available as an ARC.

Dumb question: how do you come up with story ideas? I’m having trouble with this.
@LiselleSambury
Жыл бұрын
Totally legitimate question! For me personally, I do just tend to have a lot of ideas. I’m very easily inspired by media or books, or things I see in my life, or will sometimes just get randomly struck by ideas. And so I write down anything I think of, and usually overtime I add to that idea until I eventually get a good enough picture of the idea to decide to write it/plot it out. So it’s hard for me to know what to do if I didn’t have ideas if that makes sense. But I will say a lot of my ideas start out very small and not fleshed out and I build on them. My 2024 novel roughly started with me just wanting to write about a wealthy Black family living in Toronto. Then I added on what if one of the siblings was charged with murder. Then added them owning a school. Etc etc so you can just start with something you might be interested in writing at first, and then just add on things. It’s rare for me to have a fully fleshed out idea in the beginning. I hope that helps!
