My dad currently drives an older outlander he has had for over a decade. Never had a single problem with it! When I saw this PHEV outlander I had to have it. Third row is workable if you know how to adjust the seats - I’ve seen 7 adults fit. It’s a beautiful car with ample features, good capability & the price is nice. I hope to keep mine for 7-10 years.

Great review~ I wish the 2 row 'Aspire' trim would come to North America, but it just isn't. To me it's ridiculous to have an almost unusable 3rd row that takes up valuable cargo space.

The brake pedal feels "grabby" because it engages regen braking first before getting to the friction brakes. The harder you push the brake before the friction brake point (will take some getting used to obviously), the more aggressive the regen braking becomes. This is better than dialing in those paddles manually on brake stops.

Some vehicles can do that and the transition better. Some are worse.

I bought my 2023 Outlander PHEV (SEL Premium) 2 weeks ago - local dealer had 7 Outlander PHEVs on the lot. I got it for $1,200 UNDER MSRP. I have driven 550 miles and still have half a tank of gas. I am plugging it in every night for my daily commute and weekend errands. It feels "luxurious" inside -- premium leather, panoramic roof, 360 camera, power folding side mirrors, heated, steering wheel, heated seats, hands-free tailgate, head up display AND massaging seats! If I take a longer drive, I will have no "range anxiety." Plus, the Outlander has a 10-YEAR WARRANTY. ONE BIG NOTE: the owner's manual clearly states that the 3rd row is ONLY for people under 5' 3" -- I am frustrated by all the KZitem videos that do not share this critical information. I do not need a 3rd row, so I partially "fold" it. This opens up a HUGE, DEEP storage well. And, I can stack items on the folded 3rd row! The RAV4 Prime may have better overall mpg, but the 18-month wait and $12,000 "dealer adjustment" are outrageous. One local dealer wanted $65k for loaded Prime with MSRP of $52k. I did not consider Kia or Hyundai brands -- "Kia boys" have stolen 3,000 of them in my area (and assaulted drivers in the process). Lastly, my home solar panels will be installed in 6 weeks. The Outlander PHEV is the PERFECT choice for me in 2023. UPDATE -- the local dealer now has 14 Outlander PHEVs on the lot and offering $1,250 off MSRP.

I would have preferred 6.6 kWh charger over CHAdeMO since that would be more useful day to day, but to each there own. It's a great 2nd gen effort from Mitsubishi and gets way better EV and gas range than my 2021 BMW 330e. Great video Craig!

But for me, I prefer CHAdeMO over 6.6kwh charger because I am the opposite of your opinion and I will buy a fully loaded 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SEL Premium anyway.

Can you V2x with 6.6? For me, that's the whole point of CHAdeMO, fast charging is just a plus

I couldn't agree more. I will very rarely, if ever, use the DCFC feature but having faster level 2 charging would be helpful semi regularly. That being said, it's mostly going to be airing overnight where it really doesn't matter. And I'm intending to buy the 2024 as is.

Solid review with lots of little details, like the engine type that is distinct from the Nissan, that most other reviews miss. Great work 👍

A Honda S2000 sports car did 0-60 in 6.4 seconds and I’ll tell you that felt plenty fast! So if this big heavy tank can get anywhere near low 7s, that’s more than fast enough for any real world scenario

11:31 I took one for a test drive and REALLY noticed the vague, wandering steering. It felt almost like the tyres were slipping a tiny bit in oil or something weird like that! Glad I wasn’t taking crazy pills and that others have noticed the same thing. I wonder how annoying this would be on a daily basis and longer road trips, or if you’d just adapt like with any vehicles quirks

I really want to like this thing. Dont know if it's ever something I'd personally consider, but I'd definitely bring it up for others as a potential option to consider.

Kinda hard if you're not someone who needs a three row crossover. It does have some interesting things going on that the competition does not, though.

26mpg is disappointing although this seems like the type of vehicle where you can get way over that figure depending on how you drive. Crazy how many different driving was there. Four different modes on the dash, in seven modes on the wheel on the center console.

pure battery range is 80km in favorable conditions. The amount of fuel saving over 10-year-operation is about half of the initial hybrid option cost. Not to mention potential additional maintenance. and it weighs 400kg more.
@adamcoe

Not sure how much gas costs where you live but there are plenty of people who would recoup the fuel cost vs the savings of buying the ICE version of the Outlander far quicker than 10 years. Not to mention there are government incentives in many places that cut that number down very significantly (here in Canada it's 5K). Not to mention...you can actually buy one now and start saving right away rather than sit on a wait list waiting for a vehicle that won't appear for two years or more. It's definitely a bit of a niche vehicle to be sure, but that niche is getting bigger. There's a reason they sell a mountain of these things in places other than North America.

I'll be receiving federal and provincial rebates that bring the PHEV within ~$6k after taxes of the the ICE version. That gives the fuel savings (even accounting for the cost of electricity) an RoI of about three years for me. So in 3 years I'll break even and over the life of the vehicle I'll be way ahead in $. Not only that, but the PHEV gets about 60hp more, has the favourable driving characteristics of an EV (quiet, low end power curve), has a much better AWD system, and effectively has no transmission removing a significant maintenance concern. I'd say it's well worth it.

Unfortunately Mitsubishi Motors did not do itself good service. Around the World, the 2023 Outlander PHEV 20kWh is rated at 90kms on a full charge. In North America they rated it 61kms per charge. We need some real world testing to confirm the Range on gill charge in warm weather. In cold weather in Canada some drivers are reporting a range of 60 to 70 kms on full charge. PS. Come drivers have reported up to 100kms on a full charge on warmer weather. So I believe that the 2023 Outlander PHEV 20kWh is mirevrfficient than the other vehicles you had mentioned. Also, this 2023 Outlander PHEV 20kWh does use a heat pump so it be even more efficient than others in the same class.

Do not blame Mitsubishi for the lower range, EPA is the one who did all the testing, WLTP rates the Outlander a lot higher.

In North America we use the north american standards and compare to other cars that use the north american standards. The RAV4 Prime is also rated 67km in North America and 95km in Japan. So compared to other PHEVs the outlander will not give you extra range.

I like it and if the hybrid system is based on Nissan’s e-power system (and similar to Honda’s i-MMD hybrid system) this should actually be a pretty reliable Nissan/Mitsubishi product. Also since this doesn’t have a conventional CVT there’s no belts or pulleys to wear out (that’s why eCVTs are the best type of transmissions for hybrids, mechanically simple and bullet proof).
@Blank00

This is actually a Mistibisbi design. I can tell because the PHEV powertrain has a 4B12 engine, which is a Mitsubishi engine. If it was a Nissan powertrain, it would have a PR25 engine or KR15
