The Natural State Criterium Series takes place each year in downtown Springdale, Arkansas with 3-4 races throughout the summer months. It's a fast, technical course and typically includes several cash primes. It's not uncommon for the A Race to include a late-race $500 gambler prime - sometimes more. There are always some local pros and sometimes a few other pros show up unannounced. This race included pros Johnny Purvis (First Internet Bank), Tanner Ward (Miami Blazers) plus Conor White and Aubrey Drummond (Austin Aviators), as well as former pro Ernie Lechuga. This was my first time racing in the A field. It was tough to move up with a nearly 28mph average speed (and my less than stellar cornering), so I didn't even sniff the pointy end of the field until about 6 laps to go. A two-rider break with Conor White and Tyler Cheslik was up the road for the win and Johnny Purvis rounded out the podium. I finished mid-pack in a total field of about 50 riders.
