Yes I get tired when reviewers concentrate on the fully optioned higher trim models. I also wish reviewers would have more depth more on the driving assist functions, and how well they perform in challenging cruising conditions. You do a decent job there but more detail would be nice. "Base Model" might be a good angle for your future reviews to distinguish your channel from the other many many reviewers. Heck the base model current Prius has way more features than my older top trim level Prius!

Glad to see someone do a review on the LE. It's also nice to know that 6'2" person has no trouble sitting in the driver's seat. It was a concern for me since I am 6". I ordered the XLE AWD in Guardian Gray so I did want to see the info system with an 8" display. Looks fine! Take a very close-up look on a bright day, the car really is pearl, like from an oyster. Maybe that explains why it cost an extra $600. Amazing, you went from a Corvette to a Prius? Did I miss it? What was the price for this LE? At MSRP or well above with a market adjustment? What was your buying experience like? The only issues I have with this car is the lack of lumber adjustment, after many hours on a road trip that could be an issue. Also, the use of piano black for interior trim is not practical, scratches and dust will make the car look older sooner. Did your rear seats come with a center armrest with cup holders? I do like the manual lift back, less weight and one less expensive thing to fix over time. Please comment on how the stereo sounds. Sometimes this is an incentive to get the next trim level up. My wife’s Mazda CX5 with the Bose system to me is a great feature that is appreciated daily for years. You have a pleasant voice, kind of reminds me of Carlos Lagos - very conversational. Keep up the good work.
@TheAutomattic
Жыл бұрын
Hey Thank you so much for the positive feedback and the view 🙂 To answer your questions, Well, so I didn't exactly go from a Vette to a Prius as a daily driver. I did sell my Vette last year, and it was awesome. Love the C5s. The car I was daily driving was an 01 Camry, so I guess you could say my bar might have been low haha. We were able to pick this guy up at MSRP, and my purchase experience at the dealership and salesman we use is always fantastic. I couldn't agree more about the piano black plastic, they used this on our Venza as well and the instant a spec of dust is wiped off of it, it leaves a horrendous scratch. The seats are pretty comfy, the longest I've driven it is about 2.5 hours and my back wasn't really feeling it. That would have killed me in my Camry. No cupholders or armrest in the rear seats. The stereo system is actually not too bad. My Vette had Bose, my GMC has Bose, and the Prius system while not as full as a higher end system, it is still adequate for jamming while driving. I've not considered it a true issue just yet.

Great video. Considering purchasing a LE as well mainly for the mpg. I have 1 question. I’ve heard on some electric cars, using the A/C a lot, reduces your total range. Do you find this to be true in your Prius hybrid?

Nobody can ever convince me that powered seats aren't a gimmick that just adds extra weight, cost, and mechanical failure potential to a vehicle. Every time someone complains that seats or even the liftgate are unpowered I just think I'm glad I'm not overpaying for useless features
@TheAutomattic

That's a solid way to look at it 😊 I'm about a foot taller than my wife, and when you start rotating drivers power seats are nice on the driver side but that's about it. My truck has power seats and the passenger side really doesn't get used.

Power seats can add adjustments that you simply cannot get with a manual seat, which include bottom-seat/thigh support adjustment and usually lumbar support which aren’t gimmicky at all, they contribute to driver comfort and limiting fatigue. Driver memory with a power seat is also very much needed for multiple people who drive the same vehicle as it can be difficult to get the seat in the exact same position everytime. As for a power liftgate, that also can be very helpful especially when yours hands are full or if you are older and have trouble reaching or pushing. Once you live with these features when you need them, you realize how helpful they can be. Depends on the car and your situation, but those are my own experiences.

I already know the answers to most of these questions for this car, but I'd like to see something that most reviewers don't talk about. For example, can the fuel door be locked and unlocked from inside the car? I live in a city and I prefer fuel doors that are locked. Is the 12V battery located under the hood or in the trunk? Is automatic emergency braking standard? Does it work for parking? Does it misfire on highway? Does the car have engine oil dip stick? Does it have transmission fluid dip stick? Where is the engine oil filter? top? bottom? hard to reach? Do you need to remove a panel to do oil change? These will help evaluate how easy or difficult it is to own the car.

Fuel door can be locked, and opened via a switch on the LH side of the driver's compartment. 12v battery is located in the trunk, on the RH side, just remove a panel to access. Automatic emergency braking is standard on all prius trims. Engine oil dipstick is there. Toyota recommends oil change at 10K intervals. The Prius has a CVT transmission, so no dipstick. Oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine.

Thank you for your video. I have just placed an order for the same car with the grey interior and awd. I had no chance to see one in person before the order. One of the reasons to choose this model is the cloth seats. It is my favorite. My second choice would be leather but not plastic. I am driving a compact SUV now. I have test drove the prius 2021. The seating position was good to me. I am worried about if this seating position is too low?

That is so awesome! I was in the dark as much as you are now and I was really quite nervous!! I am glad I wasn't able to ease some nerves as you await the new model. Hey Walter! All great questions, the floor mats, door guards, and edge protectors were all factory installed and were not something I chose because I was afraid of how it would interfere with the body lines. I think Toyota did a good job of designing the components and I am not displeased with the accessories. The window tint had just been installed the day I filmed, and it was MUCH needed. The car had zero factory tint installed so I had a local shop do the work as dark as Texas would allow. Thank you for the great questions! These are all things I can definitely include in future videos ☺️

Nice Review. I may have to get the LE trim because a few other reviews say that is the only trim with a Compact Spare Tire available as an option. Is your LE Prius FWD or AWD and did it come with Tire Repair Mobility Kit? Was the Spare Tire option offered to you?
@TheAutomattic
Жыл бұрын
My Prius is an FWD, and has the "fix a flat" type of road side kit. Not the actual spare tire, and because we didn't order the car the spare tire wasn't an option we could choose. However, if you remove the foam insert under the trunk mat, there should be room for a spare if you chose to get one
@netmann1492
Жыл бұрын
@@TheAutomattic Thank you for the quick response. A couple of more questions if you don't mind: 1) Would you say it is because of your Prius trim being FWD that there is room under the foam inserts for a compact spare tire since there is no real axle electric motor? So for AWD, there may not be enough room... 2) Is there a clamp under the foam insert to secure the spare tire? And also is there any more room for a jack, jack handle and lug wrench, or those would fit inside the foam inserts? Thanks in Advance.
@TheAutomattic

@@netmann1492 both good questions, 1. I would say that is a fair assumption FWD vs AWD, but I really couldn't say for certain since I'm not sure how large that electric motor is and how it impacts the hatch with certainty. 2. If you own a older Prius, and like the interior and fit, I’m not sure you will like the 2023. I sat in a new XLE and I had to raise the seat so high to see over the center cluster and put the steering wheel in the lowest position to see it. I didn’t get a chance to drive it. Thanks for putting together a great overview video with detail on the LE trim. Some questions: Did the car come with remote start? The fob sequence to use it would likely be lock, lock, lock (hold). Was navigation included, or were you using an app from your phone? In terms of driver assists: when stopped in traffic, does the car notify you when the car ahead of you has pulled away (on the upper trims I think the ambient light strip flashes)? If you fall asleep at the wheel (or become incapacitated, e.g., from a stroke, etc.), would the car automatically put on the flashers and slow to a stop? Do you know what this feature is called?
@TheAutomattic
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the view and Thank you for the awesome questions. I'll do my best to answer in order 1. Remote Start is included, however a con on new Toyota keys is the signal strength. (my 22 Venza is the same way) 2. I'm running Android Auto to utilize Google Maps, and the car does not include Navigation outside of a Apple Car Play, Android Auto, etc. 3. Yes this does happen if you sit too long at a light and the vehicle ahead goes, it also alerts you if you put your blinker on while a car is in your blind spot. 4.It sounds like what you are describing is the Smart Stop Technology, which is part of the Toyota Star Safety system. This works to detect fluctuations of acceleration that might be a result of a mechanical failure or driver issue. Toyota Star Safety works hand in hand with Toyota Safety Sense and can help detect many signs of driver trouble via the multiple features. I'm not positive that it actually pulls you over and puts on emergency signals, however our salesman did mention that drowsiness detection or a Driver Monitoring System is something on the horizon but I can't find any literature to substantiate that for you. 5. All Prius Trims have the same Safety Sense and Star Safety System features. Things like Front and Rear Parking assist and Advanced Park are optional and are dependent on trim level. I hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for responding so quickly and thoroughly, you did a great job organizing your answers too. I'll continue using the same numbering as my original questions: 1. I'm really glad to hear remote start is included. It's a great feature that strangely isn't mentioned as a selling point, nor even in the Owner's Manual! I've had no experience with remote starting cars. What ranges are you used to, vs what the Prius gets? 3. How does the Prius notify you when the car ahead pulls away? Does the LE have an ambient light strip? 4. This is great info that makes it much easier for me to research! New question: 6. Did you have room to negotiate at or below MSRP (after including add-ons/accessories)?
@TheAutomattic
Жыл бұрын
@@TheMaruMari1 No problem! 3. The car beeps to get your attention, and it may present a message on the HUD if you sit longer after the beep. But I don't see where an ambient strip might be presented. (I didn't have the will to sit any longer at lunch with cars behind me 😅) 6. We worked with a dealer we had trusted to help us before and we ended up paying MSRP plus the delivery fee on the sticker. There wasn't a mark up for any accessories as they were installed at the manufacturer, and didn't get hit with any mumbo jumbo services that folks can often find on typical stickers.
@TheMaruMari1
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. 3. Glad to hear the cue is auditory, vs what I think the upper trims use, which is ambient light flashing. I'm thinking the LE lacks the ambient light strip, as on the other trims it runs horizontally across the entire dashboard (with gap for steering wheel area), positioned below the vents. It seems to default to a blue color, you wouldn't be able to miss it. 6. You got a super great deal! Are you saying you weren't charged at all for the accessories, even at their MSRPs? 1. What remote start ranges are you used to, vs what the Prius gets?
@TheAutomattic
Жыл бұрын
@@TheMaruMari1 I know exactly what you are referring to now and yes the LE does not have the super cool LED strip that runs along the dash. I was a little sad about that. I'm used to being able to do the old, "where did I park" click the remote and hear a faint horn across the parking lot 😁 my 04 Vette and 16 Focus ST had really good range. Where as I'd assume the Venza/Prius range is about 100ft with no interruptions like a wall. If my Venza is parked outside of my garage, I can't lock the car from inside my home. I have wondered if Toyota is prompting the use of it's app in the long term instead of the key fob.
