Toyota really took away all the good things about the old sequoia. The old sequoia had THE most comfortable third row of any suv/minivan I have ever tried. Now it has crappy leg room because they don’t allow the middle seats to move for some stupid reason and the seat is super close to the floor like some crossover. Headroom also looks like trash. On top of that they had to remove the the rear roll down window. The current alternative is not too bad, but it’s not nearly as practical or frankly just as cool as the original roll down window. I’m willing to bet cargo space is also worse than the old sequoia. The new styling is great. The hybrid is great. Unfortunately, from what I see in this design I see more negatives than positives. I have owned a 1st gen Sequoia and currently own a 2nd gen. I can't believe they got rid of the rolldown rear window, it was such a distinguishing feature of the Sequoia and made it a joy to own. It also looks like the cargo space is way down from the 2nd gen. I have a family of 6 and we tow a 22ft camper all the time. I don't know that I like what I see here. @@imnotusingmyrealname4566 old version had independent rear suspension. Only reason they went with a solid axle is because they are trying to market this as an off-road American land cruiser replacement. The old GMs had a solid axle, but went to independent rear suspension. Because it makes rear seating space soooo much better. Ford did the same when they redesigned the expedition. The result is both vehicles have excellent third rows. Toyota is doing shit backwards by starting from what used to be the single best third row seating on the market and made it equivalent to what you can find in a crossover. The least they could have done is allow the second row seats to slide forward. It’s not even like they are saving money, they just chose to put it in the third row where it doesn’t do anything instead of in the second where it balances legroom for the entire car. The family vehicle sequoia is dead. The sequoia is just some American land cruiser now. Kinda like how the Tacoma is the American hilux.

My take is this is a confused delivery. Looking at the side profiles I can tell that the TRD doesn't get much if any increase in ride height by looking at where the body lines meet the lug nuts. The front bumpers look the same, except the TRD is missing that huge air deflector. And then the TRD has a locking rear axle and no front skid plate, but the capstone gets a fake looking skid plate. I love the look of both. I don't like those small rubber band tires. I think they look out of place on almost everything that is supposed to be able to leave pavement. I really wish Toyota would raise the Sequoia TRD, put on under body armor and increase the front and rear angles. It should not come with standard 3rd row that should be optional. Also offering a 2 inch lift kit and the ability to run 35s would be ideal, esp for SR5 customers that pick a locking rear diff. One question I am not sure I have seen - Does the TRD version get a locking center? Having a locking rear is great for snow, mud, and lifting a rear wheel. But a locking center diff seems like standard kit on anything that has a rear locker. That would be a strange combo.

Sliding second row will be released in future years. They purposely hold back features to keep sale numbers up until next refresh.

I really do not understand the decision to not have an IRS. Everything in the class now has it including the GM holdouts. Seems like a very odd time to do this. With the wastegate issues in the Tundra I don't think this would be my choice for a vehicle in this class. I think I'd rather have an Armada.

Very interesting to see Sequoia and Tundra get hybrid first but not Lexus LX. I have to say I am a bit disappointed when I first saw New LX, as I am about to retire my current Lexus for a new one. Should I wait for LX hybrid or just get a Sequoia Capstone?

So far I think my biggest complaint is the 2 back rows not folding flat. If they took the 3rd row out maybe somebody short could sleep in it if camping. But how short would they need to be?

Now kinda wish Toyota gave the J300 Land Cruiser a similar headlight styling like this Sequoia, but still leave everything else behind the front fender alone exterior-wise.

Demand on a Sequoia would be low. On the Tundra though the 400 watt power outlet is a disappointment though since Ford hybrids offer up to 7.2KWH outlets. A 1500 watt outlet minimum should have been provided 😔

Driving this vehicle for last21 years first and second generations. I was excited and waited but now disappointed. Need to extend it 14-16 inches in the rear. It is not practical anymore.

Great looks on the outside, some very weird looks when you open the tailgate - that 3-level shelf thing with the high load floor doesn't work for me *at all*. Oh well. To each their own.

The rear cargo area simply does not work for those of us with dogs. That, and getting rid of the hatch roll down window, might be a dealbreaker for me. Does anything know if the third row seats can be REMOVED? That would be a fix. I’ve had a third row for 10 years and haven’t used it once.

Toyota should make a extended version to see how the sales will go and then kill it if sales are too low.

I love the looks of this vehicle. Everything from the exterior, the interior, and let’s not forget the fact that it’s TOYOTA, makes me love it even more. However, the previous generation could fit an adult comfortable in the third row, not as comfortable as an Expedition, but comfortable. The access to the third row was also easier. Other than that, beautiful suv.

Just when I figured toyota would learn from the past of awful third row designs and improve it, they managed to somehow make it even worse. That is the cheapest, dumbest looking interior. The load floor is stupid high, that flimsy little cargo rack is just poor design. All I see there is "how do we make the load floor seem somewhat reasonable while jacking it way up beyond reason" and they just extended it about 8 inches and drop it off a cliff. The rear cargo area was the reason I wouldn't consider a sequoia before, and this helped none. Open the rear hatch of a tahoe, or an expedition, or even an armada, you will have a world of difference. The ability to outright remove the third row seats would also be nice, having the rails they're on double as cargo rails. That would bring this thing back to reality in terms of cargo load floor height. But I'm sure they're not removable without some tools in typical toyota fashion. It's a damn shame too because they did such a good job on the tundra non hybrid, and then the hybrid tundra messes things up too with the battery placement. Why is it so hard for toyota to realize the battery should be in the frame of the vehicle, not in the cab? It's not a phev, its not a big battery. Jeep can fit a phev sized battery in a wrangler and grand cherokee without compromising the interior, how does toyota not manage a hybrid sized battery in this behemoth? Really poor engineering on toyota's part and I wish they got it right because I'm in the market for a tow vehicle and this just...

Toyota has to figure out how to get the bottom of the front bumper higher off the ground especially in the trd models. It severely hurts it off road abilities. As far as approach angle is concerned.
