You don’t need the handle. You need a chair. Well I don’t. I don’t have room. I bring an ultra light table over a chair. I am considering a stool though as they are 1/4 the weight of even the new Nemo chair but more importantly pack into like 4” x 7” square. I can’t get anything more into my 55L pack. I

Love the DIY aspect of the pillow. Ultralight is about shaving as many grams as possible without sacrificing function. Often this means improvising. But through the improve we can learn the lessons of ultralight and learn how to make better gear commercialy

The more I watch these "backpacking award" videos, the more it occurs to me how subjective they are. I'm in my mid 50s and sleep really comfortably on the Thermarest Uberlite mattress. The reg size is only 8oz (R-value 2.3). It's not warm but it serves me for the majority of my active backpacking/bikepacking trips which happen between the months of March through September. Only had to repair it once in several years of backcountry use. I do appreciate the non-traditional products like toothpaste and soap powders. Trekking pole tents are also not 'traditional' but I find are becoming more and more mainstream. Due to their cost (particularly the Dineema variety), I haven't invested in one, but am interested. Currently I carry the MSR Carbon Reflex 1-man tent which is 1lb 6oz (22oz). I've survived some pretty nasty conditions in it without problem. I also love that backpacking chairs have become less of a luxury and more of a necessity. Anyone who's used one on a significant multi-day backpacking trip (hiking 6 to 10 hours in a day for multiple days) understands it's value. I do find kind of funny is someone who is carrying a 3 gram pot lifter would need to carry 40lbs in a Z-Pack backpack. I guess if you are going for 2+ weeks unsupported and need that much food, or for a more intense trip requiring specialized equipment (climbing gear, winter specific gear, etc) would carry this much. However, with these types of trips, I'm going to use a more substantial pack. I would guess that the Z-Pack backpack's ability to carry that much weight would only mean that carrying 20lbs would make it much more comfortable. Thanks for posting. Very entertaining...

Best frameless pack is LiteAF Curve-46L, 17oz. Best quilt/bag has to be Zpacks full-zip with hood, still weighs less than EE and breathes better. For those over 6'4", only Western Mountaineering makes a 7' bag (but it ain't that light). HydroBlu filter has captive caps that can't get lost. Also, both ends thread to Smart water 28mm standard.

I've got a large Deuter pack (~75l) that I actually need for long hikes with full supplies, and my back *needs* a good frame for the weight. But it's very heavy. The Arc Haul 60/70 is an interesting option indeed, saving 2kg, and might be a good birthday present!

That Deuter pack sounds like a reliable companion for long hikes! If you're looking to lighten your load without compromising on power, you might want to check out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It offers a massive capacity, fast recharging, and a sturdy, waterproof design. It could be a great addition to your outdoor gear collection or a thoughtful birthday gift. Happy adventuring!

be cautious because they can only really carry 40 maybe 50 lbs comfortably. obviously that’s crazy heavy but the reason i have a 70 liter bag is because i live in the desert and if there is no water access most of the year so pretty regularly if it’s more than two nights i get up to those weights
@RayHikes

Sounds like quite a long trip for bring that many supplies! Out west, we only have at max 5-6 day food carries so pack weight can stay under 25 pounds. If you're looking for a lighter pack, check out the Outdoor Vitals CS40 as well, super light with a carbon frame.

i got the motorola defy link a few months ago and due to it logging me out on the trail when no service was available three separate times i can’t trust it. i tested it at the trailhead where service was available all three times and it worked but when on the trail it asked me to sign in again to send a check in message. it worked just fine on 3 other trips but 50 percent success rate is terrible. i just got the garmin inreach mini 2 when it was on sale at rei. i’d say don’t waste your money and just buy a satellite communicator one time. i do like that it works almost everywhere on earth on the same plan but i just can’t trust it. hopefully they work out some bugs but i’d highly recommend to stay away from it for now. it was probably just released before they ironed out all the flaws. also the charger cover always opened up which can be annoying and potentially ruin it if it gets too wet

I had the same experience with the defy. It lost satellite coverage numerous times on an80 mile hike in NC. It was in the gaps and certain sides of mountains. I also lost trust and found out this is an issue due to the fixed satellites used. I too bought a garmin inreach.

2 CENTS ALERT: You're the best at showcasing ultralight gear that I know of. Thank you! I would love for you to go further down this ultralight path. I think a great video would be you reviewing the best ultralight down jackets. using timmermade, montbell, etc, and maybe even designing what you would consider the GOAT of down jackets from a custom shop like Goose Feet Gear. Is 7d, 1000fp, with minimal stitching and features the best possible jacket for the job? idk but I would like to hear your take

@@JustinOutdoors , there is very little in your, on your list that that’s really meaningful. Better options, equally or better options. And some less expensive. For example, the Zero Pump. Any pump you have to top off, I don’t care how light it is or less bulky, is not worth having. I could go on and on but isn’t worth my time. There is a reason I haven’t subscribed to your channel. And you’re not the only one for sure. Just my observations. When I see real meaningful, and not hype? I would love to sub. I think you have the platform and likability.
