still open key points: ★ will ota update work this time ? ★ will we get quarterly updates as promised by the ceo? ★ when will disabled persons get the former 10% and 15% considering all the vip + press + influencee get even more ? ★ when will the price be adjusted to be competitible again considering model 3 + y are far better priced and the real peoples car ? 3 dealers offered 2-3 months delivery which had been in january 12 month or in particular chrismas or january 2024 and out of nowhere VW can deliver and has built + shipped all the backlog orders? At least 1 dealer finally said everybody should wait with any order cause VW orders had stalled except ev company cars which will stall from August on due to no more subsidies for company ev. And then they will need far more orders. He do not wanna have customers with higher prices due to earlier order and says that he doesn't care about his summer sales perfomance. He wants happy customer and he expects a recession as big as 2008. Tesla had cut the prices already multiple times, now tesla will lower the amounts of shifts and reduce their workforce for giga Berlin. And as disappointed VW owner with 2 new VW EV picked up since 2020 I do no longer trust VW and its promises nor its quality. I can wait for price reductions for evs cause our evs are young or new. If VW is too slow I'll take another Tesla at quarters final sale. We have waited for VW so long to fix things now we are done with VW

This is much closer to what I would expect from VW and what the car should have been at launch. Looks smart and gives a much better impression of quality - fit two more window switches and two knobs for the hvac and audio control and the job would be done… just in time for the new model probably. At least it’s a car I wouldn’t mind owning and driving now 👍

Man however much I love cars like the EQE, iX, E-Tron and Taycan in the real world I absolutely prefer driving a small car over a big one. This looks like it would be such a good option for the city but also for occasional long trips if you go for the big battery! Love it, and thanks Thomas for the very competent review as always!

I was seriously contemplating getting a VW ID3. But then along came the MG4, which seemed to be quite similar though slightly larger. I got the longer range version which has a range of 280 miles (450 km) - which in reality is closer to 250 in summer and 200 miles in winter (400 & 320 km). In the end it was price that decided things. The MG4 was £10,000 cheaper (€11,000)

the id3 has more range than the ex30, and it's more efficient, so it can still compete If VW reintroduces the tiny 45 kWh usable battery they had before, the range in that actually competes well with the ex30's 49 kwh lfp battery due to the VWs better efficiency. (id3 45kwh battery has 348 km wltp, EX30 49kwh has 344 km wltp) Also, the ex30s cold weather range performance might be poor due to the LFP batteries. The NCM batteries that the id3 uses typically perform better in cold weather compared to LFP batteries

@@nickbien not much difference in efficiense: 169/173 (evdatabase) but just the non trailer is a showstopper for me. The range would be nice with the bigger battery like the VW. Also the volvo i a lot quicker.

Led greeting was already like that(and the headlamps also) in ID3 pre-FL as long as they had matrix IQ lights, same for animation(2 available) in the back. Only the 1st edition ones or the ones with silver or copper option pack had stickers in the C pillar, all the others didn't(and they were different stickers between the 1st and the other 2 packs)

A huge improvement no doubt, but for me that infotainment and climate control needs totally replacing before i would consider one. The current solution is really poor, and i find it very difficult to use while driving

Around £38 /€43 K for a base model in the UK…1) will depreciate heavily 2) what happened to the peoples car? It’s expensive…3) add rising finance costs for the majority buyers….buy a 3 year old one for half price or a Golf?

This looks good to me - I like the short bonnet, it is fairly compact overall but actually has room for adults in the back, and the software isn't great looking but useable it seems. Price edging too high, and VW should be a bit quicker improving their battery options the way Tesla does. An LFP battery with still 75kwh+ capacity would be great imo

I had an ID3 for 2 years, but I needed a bigger car to pull trailers, so I got a Skoda Enyaq IV80x which I ordered without matrix lights, adaptive cruise control, heat pump, auto tailgate, sun roof & I went for the smallest wheel option. I really, really, really, really wish I could have got the car without lane assist. On the small country roads (I'm a farmer) I mainly drive on both ACC & lane assist are unnecessary and dangerous I have to switch off #laneassist on EVERY journey, we should be able to switch off things by default. Don't put things we don't need on new cars & make them cheaper!

All very well but they’ve got major charging issues both DC and AC. This redressing doesn’t change the underlying structural faults. They’ve also handed the same issues to Cupra. I changed to a different brand and it immediately hit all performance metrics!

480km range is pretty lame when Škoda is getting mid 500s with the same battery. Living in Australia, 350-380km real world is 3 longish stops between Sydney and Melbourne (870km, speed limit 110kph freeway), and that's with no passengers. They need to do better. I wouldn't buy anything under 550km (450 real world). And I can't believe that backlit buttons are still too hard. Maybe they need the Cupra or Škoda team to help out big brother VW 😉🤔

The really need to raise it up a bit. Just hit a big bump today and began thinking that would have gutted the underside of a sedan or such. Unless you live in a area with 100% pristine roads and absolutely no hills whatsoever, this is a bit too low. And then the extremely cheap interior. Other than that it's fine.

It's the one thing keeping me from considering the ID series. The "buttons" are terrible. I went for a 2020 e-Golf instead to replace my old Golf even though it has much shorter range.

@@KDR816 They are way to sensitive and you get no proper physical feedback of where your thumb is, and that you press a proper button. Several times I accidentally made the ACC jump 20-30kmh by barely touching something. Very uncomfortable. I guess you like them, good for you. For me they are a big no buy item.

I can't believe they rushed this facelift out but didn't bother to fix the touch sliders at the same time! Why wait until 2024 to change the infotainment to the larger screen with illuminated touch sliders?

Because this costs millions to change the delivery chain...and to do new crash tests. This is a security relevant change and would need entire new development. Furthermore cabling must be changed...etc. etc. I think the bigger facelift in 2024 will change this to the old steering wheel, as it happened for the new Tiguan already. And for sure they rushed it not out...usually the planning for the facelift starts almost immediatelly after the first edition is in production...it takes nearly the same time to develop the facelift as the first version...for sure the facelift developed started already in 2021 and changing this "big" change would have delayed everything.

I would never count on the next update for the software. VW still haven't fixed any of the bugs and issues of previous VW id.3's software. They can refresh the look as much as they like, but until they fix their abysmal software, VW will never be in my radar for my next EV. They received so much feedback by now, promised so much with OTA but achieved none of it.

Biggest problems with EV's are still price. We need a new middle class car for around $20k. I mean, even a old one with lots of milage on them is like $35k here. Which mean around $550 a month in cost just for the rent, then I need insurance, and also pay for electricity. I pay around $0.15 / kWh right now in the summer when its cheap, and since this uses about 2.2kWh / 10km, I would need to use around 800kWh each month which adds up an extra $120 a month making it a total of $750 / month including insurance. $750 a month to drive a old ID3........ cant imagine how young people will afford their first car in a few years when they ban ice cars.

It will be fine, you can buy a hybrid new until 2035, so still 12years away, and the second hand ice and hybrids will still be on sale what 10-15-20 years after that? So it's realistically going to be 20-30 years untill you "have" to buy an EV, probably longer.

Very nice car apparently. The software and infotainment systems get too much attention nowadays. Cars are cars, not touch pads. Driving feel, comfort, handling are what matters to me. I don't get trembling shakin jumpin rattling cars... are those drivers on anesthetics?

@Thomas great review as always. I wish we all were more objective with capitative buttons. I drive ID.4 for more than year and loooove the steering wheel buttons - those have haptic feedback, easy and simple to use (volume +/- just swipe left and right, speed +/- 5 hard press, +/- 1 soft press). Really good IMHO. Drove Taos with real steering wheel buttons (similar layout on ACC) and liked it less. I 100% that the other "touch" buttons (window and mirror adjustments, light switches and on infotainment) are b.s. I feel like those are affected by cost savings. Different touch sensing technology and no haptic feedback... So those are b.s., not the steering wheel once IMHO :) Hope you see the point and understand and maybe even agree :)

Sorry but I completely disagree. I have driven the ID.3 and the '22 Golf. The real buttons on the Golf are way superior to the capacitive ones on the ID.3

@@brianfunt2619 Well I agree with him and disagree with you. The capacitative buttons in the steering wheel are faster, more responsive and look a lot better. If the design theme of the car is more "digital", I prefer the capacitative buttons look too and even sliders for the temperature control like in some Lexus cars.

I wonder, has anyone ever proved capacitative buttons and touch screens are cost saving solutions? I mean, I look at Dacias, Ladas, etc and all I see is buttons... Wonder where these theories are coming from... Buttons are very simple bits of electronics. Basically blocks of plastics and some springs. Capacitative controls are way more complex in their construction. Their programming is more complex too and QA will involve a lot more work. Theres a lot of very small elctronical elements inside them that needs to be tested and refined and manufacturing will require more work and more precise also. I dont see what people see in buttons to think theyre more expensive or premium. Creating a dash and some buttons is so simple nowadays you can 3d print it yourself at home.
