When I jumped in for a quick practice session yesterday, it was a wet session. So when I signed up for the race and joined practice today, I was surprised that the track was dry and there was zero rain in the forecast.
I've hardly spent any time on this track in general. Yesterday was my very first time driving it in the GR86, and this was my first time with a dry track. In this practice session you can see me work my way up from crashing into the wall on my out lap (3:07) to setting the fastest lap of anyone in the session (19:20).
Not a great qualifying--I was running 1:33.3's and qualified with a 1:34.0--and I started fourth. Got up into third on the first lap, then second on the second lap, and then I had to really stay on my toes to keep it steady in front of the 3rd place driver.
At the end of lap 8 (51:01), I had a sloppy exit out of the hairpin, which set up a battle down the front straight and through the first few corners. Right after I retook the lead in Turn 4, the 3rd place driver spun from his own unforced error, which ended our battle. I still couldn't relax as the driver who passed them also had good pace. I came home in second place and had a solid race, so I'm satisfied with this one. I was hoping the leader would have some trouble from hitting the wall 3 times on the first lap, but alas nothing happened and they just had a little too much pace for me.
