2024-05 - NITheCS Mini-school: 'The algebras of ordinary differential equations' by Prof Peter Leach (University of KwaZulu-Natal & Durban University of Technology)
ABSTRACT:
If a differential equation is invariant under a transformation, it is said to possess a symmetry. Equations with more than one symmetry are characterised by the algebra of those symmetries under the operation of taking the Lie Bracket - aka the commutator. We explore the process of determining such symmetries and the calculation of the Lie Brackets to identify the algebra.
