I basically did the same thing. I have a deal made to trade my 2023 TRD Offroad XP package Tundra in Army Green for a 2024 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium in a blackout package, it's on a ship coming from Japan right now. I have a 3rd gen 4Runner that is about to hit 350,000 miles. Arguably the best vehicle ever made, the 5th gen 4Runner. As far as a bed, you can get a utility trailer and be set. I plan to eventually add another truck, but you can use your 4Runner and a utility trailer and not miss a truck honestly

Like you I’m old school but like to keep my vehicles long term with low maintenance costs. I’m not interested in turbo charged engines, CVT transmissions or electric steering which is more the norm in SUV’s today. I gladly will trade this off for a mastered 4.0 litre engine that is proven with a basically bulletproof (real gears) transmission, not to mention hydraulic steering. Documented reliability and the exceptional build quality from the Tahara assembly plant in Japan made my choice easy. Note: My choice would have been TRD off-road but the wife had to have the limited 🤷🏻♂️

I recently traded out of a TRD Pro 4Runner. Agree with most of what you said. Love the looks, styling, off-road, and comfort, but the drive train and gas mileage is too far behind the times. Reliable, yes, but I can’t go back to a 5 speed. Long gears, high rpm on the interstate. You always have down shift down into 4th going up and hill at high speed which really gets loud and inefficient. I was commonly getting into the 12s for mpg. It’s fine driving 60 and under. Anything above that and it’s really not that pleasurable to drive. If you’re not REALLY going off-road, I’d argue most people would be much happier with a Highlander, especially the hybrid.

I traded in my Cadillac ATS for a 2022 nautical blue ORP and it was all decked out the only thing that is different from the pro is no roof rack and the shocks are not the fox shock otherwise it is identical to the pro right doe to the TRD skid plate, The lady that owned this worked at a Toyota dealership and had the extras added at the time of her purchase. That being said I have had an H2 yellow Hummer, A Cadillac escalade, two Mercedes Benz, a Lincoln Continental and others and this 4runner is by far my favorite. I feel that newer cars and trucks are going the way of cell phones. They start out good until they start adding so much stuff to them that you don't want or need. I am so happy to have bought this 4runner. My Cadillac was in the shop every 6 months or so and I just didn't like taking it to the shop all the time. This cost me several thousands of dollars to keep on the road. It was so fun and fast when it worked well. I am 60 now and have no real need for speed at this point. but I love the easy controls and the comfort this 4runner provides. Enjoying your content!!!

Whatever you do don’t get into a newer Lexus GX 460, it will make your interior feel like a toy. Lol. I really wanted the 4 runner but at 6 foot two I didn’t want to be sitting on the floor to have headroom. I ended up with a 460 a new 2023 and it just drives so much nicer and the interior is so much nicer, but it’s weird I still kind of want the forerunner, I love utilitarianism and I’m not really into the fancy part of the 460. I got the 2023 at a very large discount so I couldn’t pass 😕

Thanks for the video. I’ve been curious to know about the ORP compared to the TRD Pro. I’m waiting on my Pro to arrive at the dealership so I can grab her. I liked the walkthrough that you did and showed what it’s like for your daily use having a family. Thanks.

The TRD PRO has the following interior features that the ORP doesn't have. Front Memory seats, climate control, automatic headlights, and remote start. Outside it has the Fox suspension, TRD PRO skid plate and it has what I believe is a factory 3" lift and side rails also as you already know, that not very functional basket on top. I think for the money the ORP is the best choice.

A lot of what ChevyRobScx said is wrong. Here are the highlights for what the Pro adds over the Off road. Fox Suspension, TRD wheels, AT tires, heritage grill, auto headlights, dual-zone climate , remote connect, 120 lbs more cargo weight capacity, roof basket, JBL audio system and TRD exhaust. Some of this stuff you can add later if you want but it will end up costing you more. There are reasons to buy the Pro or the Off Road. Everyone who buys the Off Road will tell you how smart they are for saving the money to make themselves feel better but I do not think that decision is as straight forward as cheaper is better.. I plan on keeping mine for decades. I cannot imagine not having auto headlights now let alone 5, 10 or 20 years from now.

I'm thinking about 4Runner TRD ORP vs RAV4 Limited, really torn on the decision because I have to pay $10K more for top end of the ORP 4Runner over the RAV4. Pluses of 4Runner are - Bulletproof platform as a whole plus longevity confirmed, 1GR-FE and 5-Spd AISIN. Massive space inside, KDSS suspension (Lexus GX460 had it), Real 4x4 truck, G Wagon for 1/3s of the cost. Great modding community if needed ever. Rigid construction, Steel hood panel and doors. Excellent visibility. Downsides - Outdated interior with far too much road noise and engine noise. No mileage. Speaker system is absolute trash (JBL is only in TRD PRO which is not worth at all). Hydraulic steering, Very low on power. RAV4 advantages are - Smartkey on all doors, latest infotainment system, JBL sound system, very nice quality ride, AWD with Torque vectoring, Fantastic maneuverability, Linear power with I4, great mileage, excellent looks. Disadvantages are almost non existent on RAV4 to be honest only thing is its not a huge truck so can't compare it to 4Runnner. But as a SUV it's a solid machine, way better than CRV with its Cylinder management or no port injection, plus recalls from Honda. Hybrid is a mess with nausea so no for that on any make.

Got a 24 TRD off-road premium 4 months ago, wish I could get another for a spare!!!!! I do have a 98 Tacoma, so I guess I need to be thankful. It's very sad for me to see the direction Toyota is going!!!! They were the best of the bunch for reliability, simplicity & quality in my opinion. Heartbreaking to know we cannot purchase that new anymore. If something happens to my new 4 runner, I may have to purchase a horse!! 😂

How close knees to dash with rear facing car seat? Inch? We have two and a 90lbs large dog...could it work?
@ZetaDogProductions
Ай бұрын
@@ryanjcoon1 I'm 5'11 and I have my kid's rear facing car seat behind my driving position no problem. There's probably 2-3 inches between the back of the seat and the car seat. Depends on how tall your passenger is, but if they're 5'11 or less, they'll have plenty of leg/knee room on the passenger side. The dog might back things tight unless you plan on putting her in the very back.

@@ZetaDogProductions Thanks so much!! Truly appreciate the feedback. With both car seats can someone sit between them in the back if needed?
@ZetaDogProductions
Ай бұрын
@@ryanjcoon1 No problem! Depends on the size of the car seats. We've got the rear facing behind me and a booster behind the passenger, and my wife can fit in between on a pinch. I'd imagine it would be more difficult, possibly not doable with two full size car seats.

You can black out the silver bars on either side of the front emblem for very little money. Props on choosing a trim level that makes sense to you. My '23 SR5 in Canada (7 seats, auto climate control) is perfect for me. I got the black-out kit as well, and TRD rims with a mild set of Nokian all-terrains. I'm not a rock crawler or overlander. Just want a micro-camper for solo photo trips without the weight, hassle, penalties of root top tents or other bro-ed out builds.

Honestly, I felt the same way and that’s why we’re going with the forerunner as well. Toyota definitely has cut corners and it’s been rumored that they’re doing that because all their money for research and development is going into electric vehicles so they’re just putting out a product to satisfy the majority that are not aware of Toyota, legendary quality of their previous generation vehicles. They’re charging more money and with those profits they’re dumping it into EV development.
