“Seven Star Mountain (七星山) began erupting approximately 700,000 years ago. Originally, it had a central volcanic vent (forming a caldera), but after volcanic activity ceased, erosion shaped it into seven unevenly sized peaks, resembling the Big Dipper constellation.”
On the southeastern and northwestern sides of Seven Star Mountain, there are fault lines that give rise to features such as hot springs and fumaroles. The mountain’s conical shape, formed by layers of lava and volcanic debris, features steep, independent peaks-a characteristic of a complex volcano. Nearby, to the southwest of Seven Star Mountain, lies Shamao Mountain (紗帽山), a circular volcanic hill named for its resemblance to a black hat. Shamao Mountain is considered a parasitic volcano associated with Seven Star Mountain
