First moto ride at Briarcliff MX for 2024 and first 24.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition back to back with a 2023 KTM 450SXF. Is the new chassis better?
Both bikes have stock suspension. Both bikes have the new Connectivity Unit Offroad and maps minimizing engine braking. The reduced engine braking frees up the bikes and gives them a little more playful and lighter feel in motion. Not a huge difference but noticeable. I am running a softer Enduro/Classic suspension setting from the KTM CUO app on my 24.5 450FE while the 23 450SXF has a setting close to stock. Has a 60hp 450F ever been so easy to ride? Such smooth and long pulling power that makes these bike so fun to ride! I was hoping to feel more compliance and a plusher ride with the updated chassis but like all brand new KTM450SXF"s this bike feels stiff and harsh for the first few hours. The 24.5 450FE does have a little more traction feel - especially in the corners. Could be Dunplp MX34's are better than the MX33's on the 23 450SXF or there could be something to the more compliant 24.5 chassis in corners. I have about 4 hours ride time so far and the chassis and suspension are breaking in and feeling better much more quickly than my 23.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition.
This 23/24/24.5 KTM chassis is a great balance of cornering and stability at speed. The updated 24.5 chassis does not obsolete the 23/24 chassis and for some riders the difference will not be noticeable. The most noticeable difference we noticed riding today was reducing engine braking - that mde both bikes feel more agile and playful, especially in the corners. Looking forward to doing back to back rides comparing this updated 24.5 chassis to a stock 23 KTM 450SXF. I will also do some videos reviewing the CUO and different engine maps (like dialing the 450 back to a 350).
