Gret review! Thanks for that. Today I'm riding the Atris 108 version and I like a lot for a number of reasons. But sometimes I feel like I want something a bit more stable and a bit more power. I've tried the Corvus, but that one is a bit to much for me. Would Declivity 108 be a good step up from Atris?

I think the added metal layer of the Declivity makes good sense here. The Corvus is a lot. The Armada meets those two in the middle quite well. I was surprised at the agility of the ski last year, and I've always enjoyed the smoothness of it in rougher conditions and terrain.

Thanks for the great review. Im wanting to update my Armada TSTs. Im 6'3" 200, advanced skier. Most days are usually cut up powder or crud with some fresh tracks thrown in. Looking for a versatile daily driver. I ski everything from steeps to trees to wide open. Something slightly wider than im on now (103's). Some top contenders seem to be QST 106, Atris 105, Corvus freebird, maybe something even a bit wider like the Bent 110 or Backland 107. Im planning on throwing some hybrid bindings on potentially for a 50/50 ski so weight is a consideration. Being a taller guy im on 193s right now so some agility and forgiveness is needed. Seems like the Declivity 108 might be right in the sweet spot for width, weight, stiffness for my size but forgiving? Am I misinterpreting? Is it not as playful or agile as the QST or Bent for example? Is the Declivity versatile enough or is it too oriented towards long and steep big mountain lines? Im at the point where I might just say F-it and grab a pair of Atris 105's. Totally open to any other recommendations though if it seems like there are better options out there. Anyways thanks in advance!

You could do a lot worse than an Atris, so if you go that route, I bet you'd be happy. The Declivity is awesome--I was surprised at the agility of the ski in the 190 given how smooth and powerful it is, but that's just a feather in its cap. The Bent isn't quite as sturdy and you may find it to bee too flexible and playful. QST is a nice mix of all these things with good energy and pop, great flotation, decent carving, and a lot of fun. The QST is right there with the Atris in terms of being well-rounded and easy choices while the Corvus and the Declivity are a bit more high octane.

@@SkiEssentialsAwesome thanks so much. I know the Corvus Freebird is technically a touring ski but the weight isn't far off the Atris so wondering how to decide between those two? As you said the Atris seems to be more well rounded I guess. Something about the slightly wider stance of the Corvus is appealing so having a hard time pulling the trigger on the 105.

I currently have the Declevity 102 in 188 and it's by far my favorite ski I've probably ever been on and is my daily driver. Looking for something a little wider for resort cut up pow and crud to add to by quiver. I'm 6'3 220lbs similar to Bob... I was thinking of just bumping up to the Declevity 108 but 190 may be too long? I was also looking at Blizzard Rustler 11 or Cochise, but am open to other options as well. I'm a direction skier for the most part. Prefer some metal in there. Any recommendations?

I will say, that at 6/2 225, I love the Declivity 108 in the 190--I did not find it to be too long, even in slightly tighter spaces. I think that your directional nature could put this ski and the Rustler 11 ahead of the Sender Free 110, as that ski has a lot of tail rocker and splay for more creative and playful skiing. If you like the 102, you'll probably also really enjoy the 108.

What about the Rossi Sender 106 Ti Plus in 187 as another option? @@SkiEssentials

Hi Jeff, thanks for this awesome review! I want buy a dedicated freeride ski for the big powder days at the resort. I am looking for a directional rather surfy ski, with great suspension that candle the chopped snow (as everything gets tracked very fast where I live) and still be able to do some GS turns on the groomers once every is completely tracked out. I am a directional skier with forward stance and preference for fast GS or super-G turns. I like skis that have pop and good rebound in the turns. The other skis in my quiver are: Atomic Redster XT 177cm, Stoeckli Montero AR 175cm, Black Diamond Helio Carbon 95 176cm (touring), Atomic Backland 107 182cm (free touring). Would the Declivity 108 be the right ski for what I want? How does it compare to Rossignol Sender 106 Ti+ and to Salomon QST 106? Cheers

the Declivity is awesome. It's more of a straight shooter than the QST 106, putting it more in line with the traditionally directional Sender 106. I think your preferences take the QST out of the running, with the Rossignol and Declivity at the top of the list. Between those, there's some more mobility and playfulness in the Declivity--I've found the Rossignol to be very business-like in its approach to fresh and soft snow. Declivity seems to offer good aspects of both realms, so I'd lean that way. Have fun!

@@SnowsailorB I think the sound of the ski overall leans better suspension properties to the Declivity.

@@SkiEssentials Thank you, it sounds like the dream freeride ski! I will go for it! Do you recommend to mount the Strive 16 or Pivot 14 on it? How do these two bindings compare?
@SkiEssentials
11 ай бұрын
@@SnowsailorB Generally we're big fans of the Pivot bindings as they reduce the mount distance and allow the ski to flex more naturally. Strive is great and I love my 16's on my Bent 90's. You'll have to go with the 115 mm brake in either binding, with my only caveat there being the Strive's brakes tuck in better than the Look's leading to a cleaner overall look and feel.

I am 5’10” and 160. Ski Snowmass every weekend. I have the Bent 100 as my touring ski, but now looking for something that has more float and more power. Is this too much ski for me? I am not a racer. Want something to ride on deeper days that transitions well to groomers and does not loose stability at speed.
@SkiEssentials

This ski does not lose stability at speed. I don't think it's an enormous leap in terms of demand, but it is very smooth and stable for sure. If you want it to handle more technical terrain, it takes more work, but as soon as it opens up, it gets a lot more mobile. Please note: the ski's shortest length is 182cm.

5'11" 195 lbs, would 190 be too long for PNW? I've skied the Black Crows Atris 184 in pow and have felt like I could've had a longer ski in pow. Otoh, I daily the ARV 106s in 188 just fine, but they are mounted pretty far forward and these are the longest skis I've been on... FWIW I currently ski PNW, mostly Crystal Mountain (considered one of the more 'open' mountains in Western WA) with annual trips to Whistler thrown in.
@SkiEssentials

I think if you're used to slightly longer skis and ski in more open zones, the 180 is fine. I actually think this ski starts to get better in the longer length and I didn't have much issue in the tighter spots here in VT on the big one. I say go for it and then you'll never have to wonder if you left performance on the table.

Been looking at these as im trying to narrow down my quiver to save some money. I want a pretty light, powerful ski thats still a little bit surfy. Im 5'10 165 pounds. I feel the 182 will be too short and 190 too long, or what do you think?
@SkiEssentials

I don't think the 182 will be too short. If you're looking for a burly ski that still feels lighter and mobile, the 182 is the way to go, especially vs. the 190.

Hello, thank you for great review. Can you please compere it with Blizzard Cochise 106 and Scott Pure pro 109? Thank very much.

The Declivity fits in the middle of those three in terms of stability and power with the Cochise on the top and the Scott at the "bottom." All three are capable of very high-octane skiing, but the Declivity is incredibly smooth and predictable. The Scott feels a bit planky and unenergetic while the Cochise is incredibly burly and strong. Armada gives you a decent mix, with some pop to it while the shovel is more floaty and fun.

I have been skiing on Head KORE 105s. They are too stiff on the double blacks with moguls out West. Need something with a softer tip so that I can maneuver them better. Could these be an option for Telluride/Jackson Hole, etc? I am 5'10" & 225lbs weekends masters racer seeking a POW stick for recreation so plenty strong.

There's no loss of strength with the Declivity, and it's more flexible in the shovel for sure. I think it's one of the smoothest and most stable performers out there at this width. Sure, it's not quite as nimble as the Kore when it comes to pure reaction time, but it's not a slug, either. If you have a racing background, you'll be impressed with the carving capabilities of this 108.

I am kinda leaning towards the K2, but I am 5“9 165 lbs, somewhat afraid that the Mindbender 108ti is too heavy for me, even tho I am pretty strong and as I said advanced in technique (26 yo, living in the alps, been skiing since I was 2).

The K2 is kind of a handful, but you are rewarded with a ton of stability. The Armada is smoother and easier to use while still having a high performance ceiling. I had good success with the Armada this past year, but love the strong and sturdy feeling of that K2, especially if you're in more demanding and technical zones like Alps.
