Paul 👋... when I heard that Audi was killing the R8 in favor of an electric sports car, I was furious!Now hear me out. The R8 is a 2 seater car with no place to put your luggage. Meanwhile, the e-tron gt is a 4 seater plus a boot. If there's one thing we would miss, it is, of course, that V10 rear mounted engine😮. The sound it makes definitely brings a smile to your face, it make you feel like you're driving something special. The fact that the e-tron gt is more powerful and practical than the R8, it's easy to forgive Audi for that decision, well, for me at least.

I drove an RS etron GT on the ice whilst at Audi's Ice Driving Experience in Finland earlier this year. Our "standard" cars were RS4 Avant. The RS4 was more fun to drive, both lighter and with the exhaust sound. In the RS etron GT, the sound of grinding ice/snow prevailed above the engine whine. I'd choose an ICE car over electric anyday.

@pauld61 I still wouldn't buy it as the interior quality doesn't feel the same as for say RS6/RS7, which are about the same price in Australia. And what's with the dickie switch masquerading as a gear shift? It looks like the same P/R/D switch that's in the Skoda Octavia /VW Golf.

Well when it’s raking in great revenue, there’s a few people out of the overall population that are even affected (so it’s not on the mind of the average consumer) and those few people are prepared to pay any price for a car - no wonder it’s still in place. Ask 95% of the population if they’d like higher rego fees to subsidise lost revenue from removing LCT from a millionaire’s Porsche 911 and I don’t think you’re gonna get much interest.
@jeremybean-hodges6397

If you can afford a vehicle like this, I have no issue with it having a 33% LCT being applied. I would rather our hospitals and schools be funded by the purchase of Audi RSs and BMW M4s rather than an extra 5% on food.

No one wants one pedal driving a Porsche, which is why it’s not in the etron. The main reason I bought the Taycan CT because I hate one pedal driving. You should revisit the Taycan CT Turbo review; as it will be interesting now you done the etron as I think they are so different.

Yes. Other high end EVs also have the two speed. It’s for the autobahn. Yes the top speed on this is 250ish just like the Hyundai but I guarantee this sitting on cruise at say 200kmh vs the Hyundai at 200, the Audi electric motors in this would not be spinning as fast, thus less power usage.

Currently the extra efficiency is negated by the extra weight of having gears. EV motors have a lot less efficiency losses than ICE

Great Review, I have just bought one 4 weeks ago. I went with the GT but with a high spec which gives it all the benefits of the RS ( 4wheel steering, TC Brakes, electric diff and so on) so hard to justify the RS price. You managed to avoid mentioning the Wifi charger which cooks IPhones to the point where it shuts down the system and ruins your IPhone battery. Audi is trying to pretend it’s not an issue. Wonder how they will react when a car catches fire. I went from An R8v10 and am feeling it was a mistake

The majority of people reacting negative on EVs live in big countries with few ( super ) chargers... In Western Europe no problems with that as distances are way smaller, here in the Netherlands we have about 140,000 public charging points and abt 5000 public HPC.
