I'm surprised too, but apparently, refs are giving more attacks on preparation. If you're not constantly moving forward, you lose your priority. It seems for the past 2 years, there has been a shift towards this. I think this is better for the sport. When you give too much leeway to the attack, you don't get that back and forth which makes fencing more enjoyable to play and watch.
