54 yr old who has been playing since 1988 here. Ive watched every video of pro disc golf available almost and never seen a two man exhibition like what I saw today. Its the way they drove/scrambled/putted +the course on which they played that makes it super special for me. There must be some fall magic in the air. Cant wait for tomorrow's coverage! Peace ✌️ ☮️

If you follow ball and club golf, it's a similar concept. The didn't make bad mistakes off the tee (if they did they got good bounces/ rolls) and they make all the putts. You do that in regular golf you win. These guys just happen to be the best at those things. Since you're new to the game it's hard to explain just how sick it was that they hit their every shot. Being in the zone, I suppose

This here is the best proof I've seen so far that you need commentators for DG, in its current state. And they must be former or present pros with high level of authority and very good acting skills. Otherwise there's no way I'd think this is the "best round ever". Until they find a way to actually show how long and difficult the shots were (radically different shooting angles, perhaps, some kind of futuristic stats, I don't know...), this will rely heavily on commentators saying "wow" left and right and spending half the round just blatantly praising good shots. Unfortunately, that is also a big hurdle on the way to becoming a big time TV sport, imho. If you don't play DG, appreciating some of these shots is difficult even with commentators dying to help you do so. And even if you do play, but not on these courses, understanding what is good or not that much is often very difficult.
@alankarst86

If you’re watching a baseball game and a team hits 15 homeuns, do you have difficulty understanding how incredible that is if the commentary just says “wow another home run we haven’t ever seen anything like this”? Yeah they show graphics of launch speed, angle, and distance, but in that case is it those stats and analytical commentary convincing you that’s impressive, or simply witnessing someone hit 15 home runs?
@k.squared
5 сағат бұрын
@@alankarst86 I've never seen a baseball game in my life and have no intention to see one in the future. I do, however, watch basketball from time to time since childhood and can understand if a team's performance was bad, good, or unfrigging believable without any commentary whatsoever (and even the score is secondary), even though I don't play basketball myself. But when it come to individual sports, many have difficulties to convey the actual sensation of mastery on TV. Tennis comes to mind... In real life, two good amateurs seem to play faster than two pros in a TV Wimbledon final, imho, just because the latter is shot from behind killing the sensation of speed. Volleyball, on the other hand, looks very similar to real life as it is shot from the side, just like basketball, but mixing in various angles, especially during replay. On the other hand, many people watch tennis nonetheless. But DG is incomparable to baseball, basketball, or tennis and they can definitely do much better than current shooting angles (from behind and catch cam) they use, imho. Maybe in the future they will be able to use some sort of drones with disc tracking capabilities or at least find sideways shooting angles for some holes, we'll see. right now a pro just tosses the disc into the trees, it bends right or left and then you see it landing somewhere in between some trees. Then another pro steps up and tosses a similar shot and it lands near some other trees. Because of the flatness of a 2D picture, appreciating the speed, distance, and precision of two shots like that is very difficult, imho.

@@k.squared I agree that improvements can certainly be made, but if you can’t tell that what Rick and Gannon did was sensational then you’ve never thrown a frisbee

@@alankarst86 There are plenty of rounds on Jomez when people shoot more than 12 under in similar or even more complex looking courses. Paul famously shot -18. I play DG (really poorly), even have a basket in the backyard, but I would not be able to tell that this performance was any better than all those other great rounds, if it wasn't for the cracking job the commentators did. And even then It's up to how much I trust them, because the picture, in my humble opinion, just did not look that impressive or different.
