To be honest, i bought "dumb" equipment on purpose. C2 rower and ski, rogue echo bike and a Taurus Run X (similar to the assault runner). No powercord, no electricity bills, no monthly subscription fee and nothing needs an update when i want to do my workout.

I was surprised by the Voltra. Thought it would be gimmicky, but I could see this replacing my selectorized pull down/adjustable cable machine. Biggest downside is the cost however.

Yeah I’d love for something like this to become cheaper than the likewise weight stack pulley tower. I.e BOS weight stack cable pulley tower at $1129 If they could get this down to ~$800 I’d cave. I think they realistically can when there is more competition. For now; plate loaded for me.

Would love to see a review. Of course nobody can know but the real sticking point for me would be longevity. Like I'd happily buy 2 for the low footprint versatility but I think a selectorized stack is more or less guaranteed to last (or easy enough to repair) decade+.

The other downside that I haven’t heard anyone consider about the Voltra is what happens to the serviceability in the event Beyond Power doesn’t exist in 5 years. Lithium ion batteries will degrade and need replacement, it’s just a matter of when. They shared with me in response to my query, that the battery pack is replaceable but made from proprietary components and parts. Good for the short/medium term but if the company goes out of business, it seems like it would be impossible to get a replacement battery pack. Unlike a cable stack (for example my Rogue CT-1 that I am strongly considering swapping with the Voltra), I’ll really never have to worry about non-availability of parts to fix. That said, still strongly considering swapping but this issue (at $2500 for 1 or $5K for 2) gives me pause.

I appreciate you talking about these smaller and more innovative companies. As a person with a RML that I’ve had for 7 years, I’m locked into the 3x3-5/8 ecosystem, but I’m not convinced the Rogue is always the first place I should shop. One thing I’d love if you added in your reviews of rack attachments is a 30-sec to 1-min summary of what racks an attachment is fully/partially comparable (minor DIY, shims, drilling, etc.). I hate not knowing if pegs/holes will align with my rack, if the attachment is a “true” 3x3 or a “thin” 3x3, cross-members will interfere, etc. Also, please do a video dedicated to proven and safe DIY solutions to mixing ecosystems, and what to consider when mixing attachments on your rack. This could even be a multi-part video for simple, moderate, difficult DIY solutions.

Rogue needs to step their game up! I have a garage gym and it was built during peak pandemic. Most of my stuff are from Rogue - based on my reading and FB group inputs they were known as the gold standard. Back then, Rep and Bells of Steel were just gaining momentum. Now, I wish I could’ve went with Rep or Bells of Steel because of very little innovation (if any) from Rogue to accommodate the dynamic home gym demand. I had people compliment me on my gym and ask for recommendations/ input about building garage gyms, and I always tell them if I can go back in time…… I wish I could’ve went with Rep! As a software engineer, I think all the tech-included stuff for gym things are just a gimmick and suck. We don't need AI in gym stuff. The MOST I believe would be valuable is to create a device that takes verbal inputs and maps them into a log for you to track your workouts. Here's what I'm thinking: Walk in the garage gym, tell the thing to begin monday workout. It says it's leg day and you need to warm up doing xyz. Great. "Next segement", we say. It then says what's coming up, such as "Hey it's 4 sets of back squats, each set should be 18,16,14, and 12 reps. Your first set based off your last lifts should be about X weight for those 18 reps. Do 1-2 sets working up to that weight before you begin." Okay great. You do the first 3 sets and you're toast. "Hey device, I'm too tired to hit this last set. What do I do?", we say. "Drop the weight down to your last set weight and aim for those 12 reps." I think you get what I mean if you read this far. I feel strongly that if we had a device to track and do the thinking for us on what reps and weights we should be doing, such as what Dr Mike does on Renaissance periodization, then we'd be golden.

I want more cheaper value add attachments. The ethos of a home gym is you’ve got a squat rack and barbell and maybe a conditioning machine. I think once you start adding a full set of dumbbells a couple specialized machines it becomes a private gym. Home gyms are supposed to be about efficiency.
